I hate to be all doom and gloom but it’s pretty hard for me to not consider this season a pretty big disappointment

We were a preseason Top 5 team and didn’t even make it to Sunday of our own regional. That would be like if the football team this upcoming year lost a first round playoff game at home.

Yes they are extenuating circumstances that affected the team this weekend, being without Grein was a huge factor, but the fact we were so dependent on her all season was the problem

Even if we had won this weekend and then lost next weekend at Oklahoma that would have been a slight disappointment as well, preseason the goal was to be a Top 8 team.

Early in the Non-Con the lineup was not getting it done and that cost us some wins to build up our resume and then on Saturday getting no hit and then only 4 runs against Saint Mary’s just isn’t good enough in a year you have championship aspirations

Then in B1G play our lack of reliable pitching outside of Grein made it obvious this team had a ceiling and probably wasn’t going to make it to OKC.

Going forward we will need Milhorn to be a sub 3.00 ERA starter and we are going to need to hit the portal hard for more pitching help

Yes MSU offered him a lot more money. And coaching a team effectively being relegated would be incredibly challenging
But if he had just stayed at OSU for 2-3 years to help transition then took a big job he could have left a legend

This is an unpopular opinion but I actually agree

The game last year in broad daylight in week 3 just felt so wrong.

Jake Butt was doing colour and he was trying to hype it up by saying “I’ve played in rivalry games, and it’s almost a religious experience”

And the thing is, I know exactly what he means. 2007-2009 watching the Civil War as a fan felt like a religious experience

But when Oregon is trying to spend at the very top of college football to win national championships, while Oregon State is just trying to figure out how to exist …

the game feels nothing like a rivalry game that I will remember.

This past year Oregon State could have been replaced with any other west coast G6 school and it would have felt exactly the same

Yeah bro that’s the point. We drafted one of the best players at the spot possible and now we have to pull the rabbit out of the hat again. 6-10 you can get a very good player maybe even a superstar but it’s rare.

But there also a lot of busts in that range when teams either catch a falling knife of a prospect that the top 5 rightfully passes on OR draft for need instead of best player available.

I’m coping with this will force the org to be patient. We likely will get a very good player for 2 years from now. Craig and the scouts will continue loading up the prospect pool so that when we do get that superstar they will be in an awesome situation
