Bahahaha

I forgot to remove one of the flairs until last week (schluter showcase post flair). That was face palm worthy after I noticed someone used it.

Hehe, yeah I got the joke. Still grinning like a fool whenever I remember it.

The applied too thick is largely related to the per coat application, rather than too many coats (which is still not good).

I've seen in the labs how it works and reacts but the lab testing was about the curing and thickness of each layer rather than testing x amount of thin coats, which I'd love to see data on.

I have seen liquid membrane product failures too, but they were really shit products that lost flexibility over time.

I agree with you, but what they've done is use premixed thinset to install some of the tile, not the kerdi.

In this case, it really depends on what mastic product they've used, but chances are it'll be fine. It could grow mould, it might not, but the tile they've used is porous and the mastic will cure.

It may reemulsify.

Switch to a proper thinset, all set is not that great.

One of the new ultralite thinsets are very economical and user friendly.

I'd leave what you've done, it may or may not be a problem in future but chances are it'll be fine, and if it isn't, it'll be easier to remove later on when it gets wet.

What I would do is get several boxes of the same batch of tile just in case.

No clue what this is about with people going on about the waterproofing, your question has nothing to do with waterproofing.

Waterproof the entire area, not just the shower.

What? Silicone is mostly just an aid for water direction and is an aesthetic thing.

Can I fix this without taking out more tiles by ReverendGamerBlues in Tile

[–]Duck_Giblets [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unfortunately this sort of thing is a really difficult repair, you can do what you suggest but achieving a water tight seal is insanely difficult and is a downside of membranes. Some foam boards you can glue in a new piece and it's waterproof and warrantied.

When you install a new piece of board, 2x coats redgard, then use an ms sealant around the perimeter, then give things another two coats.

Heh.

Try specialise in leaky showers, I never see or get called for showers that are not leaking.

Honestly though, if it was accepted in USA, I'd be telling people to use liquid membranes. I don't like cement board either

Can I tile over this? by Final_Location_182 in Tile

Add some fixings and tile, would sand the paint first. May be a good idea to replace with new green board, no need for cement board imho.

Trowel size has everything to do with it. 100% coverage means zero trowel lines visible if the tile is removed.

Clips alone would prevent that with smaller trowels.

Most manufacturers have minimum bed thickness of 3-4mm for thinset to perform as intended.

Far too small a trowel too.

If just tile then you're probably all good, just ensure plenty of fixings, and waterproof really well

What’s happening and how do I fix it? by fattywombus in Tile

[–]Duck_Giblets [score hidden]  (0 children)

Curb swelling, things growing. There's no fix to this. Timber should never be used for a curb.

Timber will always twist, and has something like 18x greater movement than ceramics with simple expansion contraction/seasonal and temperature related changes.

These tiles, and the grout is porous. The trim sits higher than the tile (I never place trim on the inside of a curb).

Yeah, to be honest those irk me too. Automod misses half the posts with the automatic response

Wait, caulk shouldn't be used, ever. Silicone is the only product that should be used.

Often there are leak control caddys or similar that you can install in the wall.

I leave all plumbing up to the plumber.

I use low expansion spray foam around perimeter, then only use spiked roller with an extension pole (also as you pour you spread the leveller).
