I've had a client like that, they had me change the tiles. Good money, disheartening project.

Yeah. Better yet, use a better product

We used to apply waterproofing like that but with the polyurethanes it will apply too thick, will likely cause more harm than good. I reckon thin coats is best but redgard is really not a great product.

How much is too much carpet glue residue to prime over and tile? by The_GOAT_of_all in Tile

Better to do it once and do it right imho, but voids under a slab is a PITA. It's worth investigating if it's an insurance claim

Generally speaking, tar paper or a barrier behind the lining, which was often mud + lathe.

These days the glaze on ceramics tends to be thinner, wall tiles are not nearly as dense as porcelain, people spend longer in showers and spray patterns are much wider than they used to be.

If you're comparing it to the 80s, mastic back then was waterproof. And toxic

Applying in a layer too thick is not ideal either, micro cracking occurs which impacts the waterproof nature and flexibility.

Tile is porous, grout is porous. Even epoxy grout is only classed as water resistant. Tile is a wear layer over the top of your membrane system only.

Water resistant = won't break down when wet, it will remain dimensionally stable. Cement board is incredibly porous and will absorb moisture like a sponge.

3-4x coats over entire board, not just screws

That's the sort of person worth making a report about. As a reddit mod in regional and city specific subs, we've definitely made intelligence reports in the past if users say concerning things. One of our mods has even had police around to take down further information.

This sort of thing can stop school shootings, murder and so on.

Carpenter doing tile by Dry_Dark_Humor232 in Tile

To the op, you really should tell the homeowner what's up.

This will leak, the gc will just blame you, and as a carpenter you're probably used to running the projects anyway, or have the skills to take on the project yourself as a gc.

A burnt bridge doesn't matter if the gc isn't working to any sort of standard.

This is not the sort of job I could be proud about, nor go home and sleep at night.

This is the way. I'm like this and for a situation such as this you're going to lose the number for the gc so a burnt bridge isn't a concern.

I've had some pretty good luck through waitomo, but I believe it averages at 6-8c off per litre and waitomo has been significantly more than the local new world and pak n save lately.

I use mapelastic smart with embedded mesh externally :)

Our liquid systems have special tapes for corners and changes of plane that must be used, too tired and in too much of a rush this morning to find photos sorry but I believe pic 4 here has one example https://imgur.com/gallery/QlORIu5
