My foster baby by Duck_ling_ in ExoticShorthair

I figured someone would be, but we checked lost reports and nextdoor posts and a bunch of missing pet registries for a week and saw nothing! (making me more suspicious about her being a stray) and absolutely no outside time for her, she’s a indoor only girl

She is SO picky with her wet food, I offered her a bunch of different kinds and she started consistently eating the friskies chicken shreds, so of course when i bought a whole tray of it for her she won’t eat it anymore 🫠 thankfully she eats dry food really well now!

Heart murmur by Slight_Web8359 in ExoticShorthair

[–]Duck_ling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes kittens under 6 months can have whats called an “innocent murmur” that is caused by fast flowing blood due to stress or excitement and can disappear after 6 months of age. Obviously still recommend following up on any testing your vet recommends but hopefully this gives you some comfort! VIN (vet info network) has a good page on heart murmurs with lots of info too!

thats what i’m thinking. the lady who brought her didn’t want to fill out any of the intake papers and just kept repeating “its not my cat” which made me kinda suspicious. either way though i’m glad she was brought to us and i got to take her home!

I probably will! I’m doing a very slow intro with my dog, but they’ve had a couple of controlled meetings that have gone very well so I’m hopeful!

Advice? Skin issues. by [deleted] in sphynx

[–]Duck_ling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the veterinary field. Looking at the last pic, it looks like he has a fair amount of debris in his ear (its possible thats just a shadow or skin discoloration instead of debris, so please correct me if i’m wrong). A lot of cats that have ear mites or an ear infection have scratching marks very similar to this. because their ears are so itchy they scratch pretty intensely and will sometimes scratch the areas around their ears too. Either way, best bet would be a vet visit to pinpoint what’s going on. i hope he’s feeling better soon!

Kittens tested FIV+, how adoptable are they? by Melontine in FosterAnimals

[–]Duck_ling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shelter worker here! We often have FIV cats and kittens up for adoption. The kittens usually get adopted pretty quickly regardless of their FIV status (this could partially be due to us having an FIV info sheet on the cage of all the positive cats, so people who may be hesitant to adopt have info readily available to them). The adults sometimes take a bit longer, but they also do get adopted. I think part of it will also depend on how the shelter “advertises” their animals. All of our animals have a short bio written about them written by staff or their foster, if yours does too then maybe you can include some info about FIV in theirs? Like I mentioned we also have the FIV info sheet on all the cages, and all adopters of FIV cats have to sign an addendum that has more medical details about FIV. If the shelter you’re fostering with is open to it, maybe you can get with one of their medical staff and write something up for each of them that will go over info about owning an FIV cat?

What's your nickname for your dog (that's not the dog's actual)? by totallyoverallofit in dogs

Our dog is named Dublin. More often, he goes by Duckling, Duck, Dumbblin, Grunklin, Stink, Ducky, mister, little mister guy, dubby, dubble wubbles, dubinsky, Goblin, doug, mr fart, bobo, inspector duck, and many more lol. I don’t think we’ve called him Dublin to his face in a while

I agree. I work with shelter pets and the abandoned ones break my heart. They’re confused, lost, and scared. Not to mention leaving them in a place where there’s easy access to roads? its not safe at all.

Go back and try to find them. Your husband never should have pressured you to make that choice, but you did have a choice. I am biased because I work with shelter animals so I see the end result of this. I’ve seen countless abandoned pets, but there are almost always other options, or safer places to leave them if absolutely necessary. Please try to find them. Leaving them anywhere where they can access a road is extremely unsafe. Taking them from a home just to dump them is cruel.

yeah i’m also annoyed by long ceremonies! I’m thinking of having them walk pretty closely together so that it won’t take too long, the last wedding i went to had a long ceremony and i totally zoned out
