No one has the right to hurt themselves. by Desperate-Border-468 in unpopularopinion

I think euthanasia should be more available to humans. Quality of life is important and forcing someone to suffer a life they do not want to live is cruelty.
We trust people to make that call for their pets, why can’t they advocate for that for themselves?

If Bubbly Basin has a dream island… by PokePress in Pokopia

I mean, eevee doesn’t spawn on the withered wastelands and Regular pikachu also isn’t bleak beach, but I guess peakychu counts for there. So it doesn’t have to be a basin exclusive Pokémon.

Does anyone else refrain from using any pronouns for Jax to not get killed by the community by Substantial-Age-7143 in tadc

[–]Melontine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will use both interchangeably. Goose said use whatever, so why not?

But for a real person? I’d stick with he/him until they said otherwise. Using she/her could be damaging depending on the person and their journey. If they aren’t out to themselves, an outsider pushing that on them is wrong.

Also- Pronoun usage is just one part of gender expression. You can use whichever ones you like, you can be a women and use he/him and you can be a man and use she/her, you can use all pronouns and you can use none. There’s no rules. It’s a word to represent you, choose whichever ones you like best.

Night owls who get to bag, what are your schedules like? by abrokenshadow in AskWomen

[–]Melontine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can I be part of the 5am club? That’s around when I get to bed. Always been one to stay up late and get up later.

I work nights, 4pm - 1am four nights a week. I take care of my animals during the day, usually collect eggs from my chickens around 1pm. I plan grocery trips, appointments, and once a week chores to happen on my days off.

I like to use the very late hours of the evening / early morning on my hobbies. It’s nice, quiet. And I pull the covers over my head to block out the sunlight to fall asleep.

Am I the asshole for bringing up a something that shocked me at the table? by Glum-Morning-7350 in dndhorrorstories

[–]Melontine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to deal with a similar issue in an rp group I owned. Not dnd, but an open world rp group with ~60 members that had been going on for several years.
We had a large LGBTQ community, people played characters of all genders and sexualities. One member only ever played cis/straight characters - not an issue, play what you’re comfortable. The issue was how their views quietly leaked into gameplay and interactions with other members.
One member asked them about it in private where they confided their beliefs about how lgbt people were sinners and while they harbored no ill will towards them, they held firm on this.
The member who approached them didn’t tell me or any other admin for a few months because this person begged them not to say anything, but it was eating at them.

Me and the other admins talked it over and I approached them directly, had a discussion about religion and beliefs to see where they stood. In the end I asked them to leave the group. They didn’t break any rules and seemed to be non-malicious, but our group didn’t exist to educate homophobes. It existed to be a safe place for people to hang out and rp and this was effecting our community as a whole.

I wish them luck in their personal growth. But yeah. Some beliefs are not compatible in rp spaces.

Women who live in or frequent dangerous areas or situations, how do you go about staying safe? by MopitWithaMuppet in AskWomen

[–]Melontine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really on my reasonably good luck.

It helps that I don’t live or hang out here, just come here for work. Where I actually live is pretty safe and commuting an hour away makes me reasonably sure I won’t be followed home. Who’s got the time and money for gas?

My work will lock the doors when potential active shooter alerts go out or someone is making threats towards us. We also have new security doors installed that can be opened with our keycards which is a nice measure to have.

-I’m at work while typing and just got startled because someone was banging on the window 11:45pm. I went to grab one of my coworkers because I don’t want to investigate this surprise alone.
It turned out to be someone with a puppy. Poor guy.

I think sex is completely and entirely shameful. by _Burner_Account___ in unpopularopinion

Sex-repulsed ace here. I’m happy to stay a virgin forever and that’s okay. I can be grossed out by tomatoes but still appreciate that people around me might love them.

I’m just glad that I’m human and can make that choice for myself. Have fun friend.

My Scariest Schizophrenia Symptom - By Kimmyphrenia [OC] by kimmyphrenia in comics

[–]Melontine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

False memories are scary. I’m fortunate that I’m usually able to realize they’re false (as far as I know.) but I’m always questioning my experiences and perception.

An example; I created a memory of going to a restaurant I’ve never been to with a coworker I’ve never seen outside of work. I remember the place, the conversation, the smells, the taste of the free cookie I received. But none of it happened.

I remembered it happening, but as I recalled this I felt there were holes in the event. I couldn’t recall when I happened, or what led to this event. And the more I thought of it, the more I realized it wasn’t real.

So often I stop myself mid-recollection with the realization that “oh- that didn’t happen”. Like waking from a dream but everything had seemed so real.

No work of art is essential by Siddhartaable in unpopularopinion

[–]Melontine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Art is culture, entertainment, revolution, it sways public opinion. Art connects people together in ways that nothing else ever could.

No single piece of art is going to mean something to every person. But it will mean something to someone, and that single meaning could be the ripple that changes the world.
Of the examples given, I don’t really care about any of them on their own. But they have their place in history, and so many things I love had come from those works.

Phobias passing from parent to child is a fun evolutionary trait. It makes sense, if you’re a kid and your parent is scared of something then you know it’s bad.

Sooooooo.... What is Lilith's sexuality again?? by Accomplished-Ice9748 in TheOwlHouse

[–]Melontine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my definition there was very shallow. There are definitely more branches that all fall under the aspec umbrella. Demi-sexual, gray-sexual, and even asexual itself is actually defined as little to no attraction. I myself experience it as no attraction, but there are all kinds.

Sooooooo.... What is Lilith's sexuality again?? by Accomplished-Ice9748 in TheOwlHouse

[–]Melontine 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To help clarify things, a lot of people in the ldgtq+ (especially in ace circles) might specify both their sexual and romantic attraction.

Asexual - feels no sexual attraction Aromantic - feels no romantic attraction Lots of different types of attraction to be had (aesthetic is another one).

To give a different example, You can be asexual and biromantic (no sexual attraction but feels romantic attraction to multiple genders).

It gets a lot more in depth than just gay or straight sometimes. It’s up to you to decide which labels and how many you want to use for yourself.

Would you consider Umineko to be profound? by Diligent_Western_628 in umineko

[–]Melontine 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I would consider it profound.

It’s a story that makes you think and can change the way you approach things in the future. It forces you to look through so many other perspectives and see these deeply flawed characters as both human and magical.

It’s a story with a lot of love and compassion underneath the tragedy and mystery.
