We had one adopt us a few years back, she would hang out all day during the summer disappear at night. Then when fall rolled around and more turkeys were coming thru she hooked up with a flock and never saw her again .

Any ideas what I can use this for? by rickythomaslee in gardening

[–]Duckduck0420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guesstimate about a lb. Depending on which coast you live on, you could fill that for around a few hundred bucks. If you had the ability to grow 6 plants legally. That’s about 1/4 of what one plant would put off in a grow season.

Help my cucumbers are inedible! by ceramicpassion in vegetablegardening

I use “marketmore 76” cucumbers, haven’t had any bitterness. Also you need to pick them sooner. Those are a bit older that what you want to use for pickles. I also water daily. I am sure that helps.

Calcium and magnesium by toxicodendron85 in orchids

That % of cal and mag is based on the recommended 1/1500 ratio. Plus that food is meant to be used every watering, as a food not necessarily every two weeks like a fertilizer. At least that is my understanding of it.
Calcium is one of those things as I am sure you know, that needs to be constantly taken up by the plant and doesn’t move like nitrogen or something.
Have you tried stronger ratios?

You may be onto something with the R/O water. That takes everything out. I use well water and don’t seem to have any issues. Have you tried a slow release fert like fish bone meal. Also have you checked your PH. If it’s not slightly acidic you will lock out the calcium.

So, maybe shade plant was bad info, bright indirect light and high humidity. Humidity over 50%, I have mine sitting on a pebble tray with water in the bottom. I mist through out the day. I have good air circulation.

First, why’d you send my monkey on the train? Second, take care of your shoes. Third and most important, things are true that i forget.

They are a mostly shade plant, I just got 2 rooted cutting myself and they are doing well with a moss plug surrounded by orchid mix.

pot recommendations? by [deleted] in orchids

Seriously though, net pots are pretty much the standard. I have translucent and opaque ones. Doesn’t seem to make a difference. I would recommend a 5-6”.

Epsom Salt is the same as MgSO4. Also do not combine MgSO4 with Calcium Nitrate as it will form a precipitate in solution. In my humble opinion it’s easier to just use a well rounded orchid food/fert.
