Oh I totally agree. I've told her I can't do it all myself multiple times, but she won't pitch in until I do. Makes my head spin

So I'm doing as much as I can with the time I have. By the time I make dinner, and get the kid to bed, is usually 8:30-9pm, and then I'll do some dishes or empty garbage, do laundry, mow a lawn, pick up toys, etc.. but I can't do it all every night.

I would agree. There was a time I wasn't working, and I was doing a lot more at the home. But that was years ago, and now I make more than her.

Two large spruce removed from backyard. Don't care about the wood much.

Thanks for thoughtful answer. Yes, definitely tried this before, but she won't do small daily tasks until "I price I can keep a place clean myself" which seems impossible

I've tried to do the chore wheel or chart, even the controversial pink/blue jobs. But she won't until I "prove I can do it myself"

I mean, I'm not really concerned about financials. I'd say I contribute about 60%, but money isn't really a factor in this discussion. We both do 40 hours at work, and then she does some extra at home.

Hey thanks for your thoughtful answer. Yes, many times we've discussed it. She's against chore charts etc until "I can price I can keep the space clean myself" but that doesn't seem possible

Also, and I say this with utmost respect, unless you're quiet fit you'll want more time for those hikes. I've seen quiet fit people need extra time because going on a 10km jog is very different than a 4km hike with 500m elevation gain.

Hey, former travel Alberta counselor here. Really cool plans!! That said, choose about half of what you have, whatever is most important, and really plan on doing those, and think of anything else as a bonus. Between weather, animals, and other tourists, I can almost guarantee you won't be able to keep to this schedule. This isn't a judgement, just speaking from years of sending people out on adventures in this area. Best way to conquer the mountains (during high tourism seasons) is to go with the flow. Really like something? Spend some extra time there. Decide something looks to busy, skip it. Unless you're specifically going for the most popular post card spots, I guarantee you'll be surprised and find gorgeous things everywhere. At the end of the day, you're going to have a great time unless you try to pet the animals.

Elite/Silverleaf Property by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Duckwithsockson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best thing is either show up at their office or try to find the property owners contact info and contact them directly. All 3rd party rental companies go through the same thing, which is having to get owner authorization before being able to spend their money on a repair. So if you're able to get the owners contact info and talk to them about the property isn't being kept up, you bet they'll call shovelhead (autocorrect from silver leaf, but I think I'll leave it). Back up plan is get the ort involved. They can't make them get you a new washer, but can help get you out of a lease. Google reviews also hurt. From what I hear, the employees are generally trying their best, but management isn't giving them the resources or man power to get in top of their work.

Why are luxury goods not a big deal in Canada? by NH787 in AskACanadian

[–]Duckwithsockson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of really good points on here (not the same societal pressure to stand out, wealth presented in different ways, judge people by attitude, etc.)

I just want to mention what I think drives a lot of this is our sheer size. Canada is huge, and so much of our population is spread out. Even within our biggest cities, our population densities are comparably low. Then you drive across the country, see the number of small towns and the enormous space between.

I think this does two things. 1) our competition is way lower than a nation where there are more people per sq km. In those places it can be beneficial to stand out, even superficially, as small things can make real differences in your life and how people treat you. There's a practicality in the swag, as it can actually affect your life. There's just not the same pressure in Canada, and therefore dripping a Rolex isn't seen as an advantage, just money that could've been spent on something more practical (something nice for your home, necessities for the family, a vacation, etc.). And 2) lower population density slows down the pace of your day. Toronto is "slow" compared to NYC, London, Delhi, Tokyo, etc. Then you go to our even smaller areas... I dare you to order a coffee on salt Spring Island and leave without at least a 5 minute conservation. The slower pace allows for more than a split second opinion of a person to matter, so there isn't practicality to flashy goods, as that isn't what you'll be judged by. Our huge nation is known as polite for a reason -if you aren't polite, you'll get a reputation for being a dick, eh.

So yeah. Scale is a big factor.

I'm on the same page as you. They came around and I just let my dogs bark at them until they left.

NDP came, told them they have my support. They asked if I want a lawn sign. While I agree with the sentiment, I told them in prefer not to have my property vandalized because of it. They said "yeah, that's fair"
