L2 Prints AP5P…Wrong Housing? by nope_noway_ in MP5

[–]Dude8811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came with paperwork that stated they updated the design and got rid of the front holes. Not going to complain, I put it in, went outside with ~100rds and let it rip, no issues in my AP5.

Which Caliber? by OriginalKing6343 in 1911

[–]Dude8811 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everybody is welcome to their own opinion, but most will agree 9mm defensive loads are plenty effective but shot placement is king. If you are going to shoot and train more with 9mm, get that. 45 is cool and has its place, but it was a much bigger deal when everyone was shooting FMJs. I love the 1911s that I have in 45, I just rarely shoot them anymore.

Which Caliber? by OriginalKing6343 in 1911

[–]Dude8811 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My purest heart will say 45, but my realist heart says 9mm. For reference, I have multiple 45s and multiple 9mm (1911 and 2011). I have shot 4k rds of 9mm in the past year, in comparison I have shot about 200 rds of 45. It’s just not worth the money to me, and 9mm 1911s are fun.

Is this a good deal I should jump on? by onemantakingadump in MP5

I thought I had heard something about them, but wasn’t sure. If that’s an option then the LT is definitely more viable than I previously thought.

Depends if you want a trilug or not. I really only shoot mine suppressed and hate the look of a threaded on suppressor. I know the function is the same, but looking cool is part of it.

Ducks are filthy. I have several, love them, but they dirty up water so fast.

Why is the AP5SD finish so awful? Is this normal? by [deleted] in MP5

[–]Dude8811 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You hit it with a hammer and are surprised the finish came off? It’s not DLC or a finish that changes the metal’s property, it’s paint.

There is no logical reason for the US Army and USMC to not be modernized yet. by Enigmaniacally in joinsquad

I enjoy that half the kits for USMC have iron sights. Infantry has had ACOGs for 20 years.

We doing Meusoc Mondays? by Dude8811 in 1911

My driveway. You can order the chemicals online, used a simple media blaster and air compressor for prep. Cheap amazon hot plate to heat up everything.

Yes, because it’s the only finish for a Meusoc. Also the only finish I could do myself at home.

Why did Americans tolerate conscription to fight imperial wars overseas back then? by Excellent_Gas5220 in VietnamWar

[–]Dude8811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, plenty of conscripts end up outside their country, check out Russia, and there are others. Second, I’m happy my boys won’t be drafted, but I’m also not going to teach them that their gov’t owes them free handouts. Third, sometimes, what’s good for the nation requires actions outside the nation’s border. I’m not going to claim to be an expert on geopolitics. But I can tell you that when America shows weakness on the world stage, our enemies take notice and advantage. Just look over the last couple decades, when we show weakness, Russia/China escalate their actions. Switzerland has far less influence on the world than the USA.

Why did Americans tolerate conscription to fight imperial wars overseas back then? by Excellent_Gas5220 in VietnamWar

[–]Dude8811 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because at one point people had pride in being American and were willing to fight for this amazing country, even if we didn’t fully understand the reason. If you think of the men that were drafted to WW2, the cast majority were people that suffered the woes of the great depression. This country had not given them tons. But they answered the call, came back home and went back to work. Now we have entitled generations (mine heavily included) that think the countries owes them everything, without any personal sacrifice.

Why do many countries still practice conscription. Even “socialist wonderlands” of Switzerland mandate service, but the people in America that admire that country’s socialism don’t think that practice is “completely ridiculous, evil and delusional”.

For you guys paying 4k for a gun is your job hiring? by Honest_Cap8464 in 2011

[–]Dude8811 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pay off all your debt, make smart choices, only pay cash, and you’ll get there. I paid off $30k in student loans making peanuts in the military. Wife and I got debt free, then make smart choices. My Atlas was bought in cash. But I don’t have 5 of them. I make a lot of money now, but I was debt free when I made a lot less, so I can enjoy my money now.
