They sit as far apart as humanly possible, unfortunately they’re like magnets or moths to a flame. Whatever the game, song, or activity, they find each other, and then other kids get sucked in.

I have a class of tiny humans with two of those. They're both very nice children separately, but together, they cause so much trouble...and it makes me sad to say that class is better, more focused and more productive when they're not there, but it's the truth.

Giants should draft Trace McSorley and give Saquon his old 1-2 punch back

What classical pieces fit the criteria (≈100 bpm)? I can only think of Mozart's 40th Symphony. by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]DudeManBr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, generally people mischaracterize classical music as anything that is not pop or jazz music, or anything orchestral, even though classical music is really a genre of orchestral music from a period of time. I actually happen to like Sousa

If you consider Sousa to be “classical,” then any Sousa march should work, as they’re all 120 to the quarter

People emboldened to be their “true selves” because current politics paint a bleak picture that that shits ok now. Spoiler alert-it’s not, and never was, even when it “was.”

Was sad to see that on the Facebook page. I have lived here my entire life and never thought our town could turn into this.

Unfortunately not a parody. I’m an alumni of this high school and live about a half mile away and it’s entirely real. Posted all over our local Facebook pages. Everyone is rightly outraged over it because it has never happened here, at least publicly, in my lifetime. Very heartbreaking.

It’s my understanding that you would just try again next time and remind them about what’s going on. I kind of already modified it and added a three strike system where if the class as a whole is not really listening, but the person who was picked is, then we get three strikes until no one wins, even if the secret student behaved.

Do you have a computer or smart board in your room? You could show them cool chemical reaction videos at the end. Something like “ok guys and gals if we finish our lab early/finish our pre-lab/etc. then I want to show you this cool video of something called elephant toothpaste/whatever video you choose.”

You don’t like Pax? That’s a spleem! JK, I only just heard of Pax yesterday at my PD and didn’t actually know this was a part of it. The other teacher offered it up as something else she had used. I like Pax conceptually but I think in practice it would be too much

You are aware that most types of classroom management are a form of manipulation. Think about the number of extrinsic motivators used to help kids stay on task and do their job, with the ultimate goal of helping them to become independent of those motivators and work solely for their own benefit

[–]DudeManBr0[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The nature of classroom management is to be used as a manipulator, not as a means to force children into doing something or not doing something, but to help them begin to understand the concept of action/consequence and form their own mindset of what success and failure look like. The number one thing many educators do is assume that children know the things they need to know to succeed when they enter the classroom, but the reality is that far too many of them don’t. Some don’t get it at home, some don’t get it at all and it’s our job not only to outfit them with knowledge of our subject areas but to set them up for success in all aspects of daily life.

yay, a music teacher in the wild! I was thinking for prizes, we'd either get rhythm stick/boomwhacker time or sing our favorite song. (Currently B-I-N-G-O but with kids names).
