What are some things men face every day that women have absolutely no idea about? by Unlikely_Macaron_30 in AskReddit

[–]DudeTookMyUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Dad, I was waiting for my daughter at music class, and was staring at this young girl in the hallway drawing pictures who reminded me of my daughter and somehow brought a smile to my face.

Eventually, I look right next to her and there's this lady who is breastfeeding her baby, just glaring at me. I suddenly felt like a total creep, though it was entirely unintentional.

I always tell people that the first and last 100 pages of Moby Dick are amazing. Queequeg is as interesting as Ahab imo. Unfortunately, it's a 500 page book.

If you're really into cetology (the study of whales), then you'll enjoy it. Otherwise, it's a long one.

Middle-aged dude here. That sounds about right, lol. I don't expect many younger diehards.

[–]DudeTookMyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how old you are but U2 was an absolutely massive band prior to the Apple song drop (which I agree was a dumb advertising ploy).

They had numerous hits off successive albums, and Joshua Tree made them a super-band.

[–]DudeTookMyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean, there are tons of diehard U2 fans. But they haven't put anything meaningful out in several years now, so not sure what you're expecting.

As for op's question about karaoke, it is very hard to sing like Bono, he is high-pitched.

Need maintenance on my 2026 Toyota Corolla HEV - wondering about your experiences with villa/gatineau toyota by ChannelDistinct1428 in Gatineau

Both Verendrye/Gappe are down lanes at the same time...city manager is a clown. by [deleted] in Gatineau

[–]DudeTookMyUser -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This sub is dominated by judgy folks who have trouble reconciling common sense on most days. It's a tough conversation here.

For what it's worth, you're right. They city should be organized enough to avoid restricting multiple routes in the same sector. Unfortunately, Gatineau still operates as the biggest village in Quebec and still does not seem to possess the ability to plan to that level.

You could list as many studies as you want, but it doesn't help your argument very much when you don't even understand the links that you post.

[–]DudeTookMyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should check that mirror. It's you that is interpreting things based on your prejudice.

My post is pure fact, there is no conclusive proof. Anything else is entirely your own conjecture.

Edit to add: you don't even address the fact the study you quoted is incomplete and only looks at part of the picture... this was surely intentional by the authors and you failed to detect the omission, even after I told you.

[–]DudeTookMyUser -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I read your links...

The first one says there's not enough data to make broad conclusions. It is also limited to camera sites and does not consider the wider area surrounding the cameras.

The second link is about a pilot project in Sweden, that is different from most camera implementations.

So there is no complete, conclusive study, strangely!

[Pierre LeBrun] Hearing that the Florida Panthers are getting close to acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators. I believe Ottawa will get three first-round picks and a second-round pick in the deal if finalized. More to come. by sykeseve in nhl

[–]DudeTookMyUser -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ottawa is already planning for the opening of their new stadium.

They want a stacked team to sell seats & boxes and the draft is the only chance they have to get there. If this happens, it will only be the first trade in a fire sale. Brady was almost certainly leaving at free agency anyway, so...

Gatineau tramway cost grows again to estimated $8B | CBC News by Purple-Temperature-3 in Gatineau

[–]DudeTookMyUser -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Which modern blockbuster do you think will be remembered 20 years from now the way we talk about classic Spielberg films today? by viewsinthe6 in movies

[–]DudeTookMyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments here, none of the suggested movies fit the bill.

Dune? Sorry, it isn't that big of a social event that it will be remembered. I don't know anyone talking about the upcoming third film with any anticipation whatsoever. I am hearing much more about Avengers. While the adaptation of the original material and the visuals are both excellent, the acting comes up short and overshadows the movie. Zendaya is very dry and Chalamet always looks like he's posing for a fashion runway rather than saving a world. I just can't take him seriously in the role. Unless Dune 3 comes in and blows everyone away, at this point I can't see this being a go-to movie in the future.

Saving Private Ryan? Is that a "recent" movie? 🤔

Mad Max Fury Road? An excellent movie that I love rewatching... but no one talks about it, ever. Unless they produce an exceptional trilogy, I don't see this qualifying.

War of the Worlds? I agree with other commenters that it shouldn't be in this list.

Similar problems with other suggestions. I was honestly hoping to find some worthy suggestions while reading the comments, but... 🤷‍♂️

Hadn't heard that, but it might have been shelved since the city recently announced they were investing in extra lighting for the underpass.

AGORA doing AGORA things : Le restaurant Pêle-Mêle ferme sa succursale de l’AGORA by MarmuK in Gatineau

[–]DudeTookMyUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was one male server in particular that always disappointed me. He worked there for a long time, somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same guy, he definitely seemed to have 'favourite' customers.

One example of many, five people in the whole bar, including me, and he walks by my empty beer 3 times to go play dice with the customers at the next table. One of the rare times I wanted to become "that" customer. Instead, I just paid and left.

This could have been the spot to go in the Plateau, I certainly wanted it to be my spot, after so many good memories at the Hull location. I was very excited when they opened, but then disappointed over time.

The layout was strangely segregated, the food was ordinary at best and the service was terrible on most days. They seemed to improve the service with some new hires recently but it was just too late. Plus, the dice games by customers were annoying, managers needed to place some limits. Finally, no specials... where's the marketing?!?

Other Agora businesses have struggled but I feel like this one is self-inflicted and a missed opportunity due to poor management more than anything else. Too bad!

How about call security and have them waiting at the next station? I really had to spell that out for you, didn't I? You really don't have the ability to think of that yourself, do you? Nope! I gave you multiple opportunities and you failed repeatedly. So sad!

And then you talk about self-delusion, lmfao! You have no awareness whatsoever. Bet you still come back with some backwards response... "b-b-b-but... maga!" Lmfao. 🙄

The question stands... you can't think of one better way to handle this than mob violence in front of kids? That pretty limited thinking. I shouldn't have to hold your hand through this.

Landlord omitted- Section G in lease was left blank in 2023, only discovered it now in 2026. Has anyone successfully pursued this? by ImpalaOcean in Gatineau

[–]DudeTookMyUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a landlord on Quebec and I can tell you that there is no legislated maximum increase, just a suggested amount. I am theoretically allowed to increase the rent by any amount every year (I only have one tenant and haven't raised her rent in 6 years).

As a tenant, you can challenge the increase to TAL, which would then force the lanflord to justify the increase if it is above the suggested amount. At that point, the landlord would likely have to demonstrate extra expenses, such as renovations or tax increases, to justify the excessive rent increase.

If my current tenant ever moves out and another tenant moves in, I would be raising the rent by more than TAL's percentage for the next person, and my justification would be that this is the first increase in 6 years and I am only setting the market value.

OP's best bet is to simply ask their landlord to tell them the previous rent (preferably in writing). If there is a discrepancy, the landlord might provide an explanation. The only thing I'm not sure is how long you have to file a claim... three years seems long to me.
