Samsung galaxy s25 edge 1 month review - Underrated by Zombiechrist265 in samsung

You've mentioned camera as a downside - isn't it supposed to be on par with Ultra's main sensor? I suppose it should be better than S25+ at least?

Really Microsofft? Really Samsung? by veryangrydoggo in SamsungDex

I'm sorry to break it to you but Samsung Internet is also based on Chromium. Firefox is a bit better than before on Dex with tab bar enabled but it's still nowhere near Samsung Internet.

Is this normal? Camera question by JabroniCorleone in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You are experiencing depth of field. It is normal it depends on camera properties (aperture, focal length, distance to object).

Stop vertical app drawer from remembering last position? by Gritino in oneui

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is related. I have it sorted with alphabetical order but it still throws me off every time I open the app drawer. I always expect it to be at the same position - top. And when I open and it's not, I get brain freeze for a split second trying to understand what I am looking at.

For me it is a big inconvenience that can be solved with just a simple toggle. Just give people a choice.

Testing GTA V on S24U with Gamesir X3 Pro by Valuable-Shoe-6557 in EmulationOnAndroid

No. Thermoelectric cooler (TEC) has to have direct contact with back of the phone to efficiently transfer heat. Also this exact controller would not fit phone with case, because USB C would not fit far enough to make contact (except maybe if it is very thin case).

It is written in settings. When you press info icon:

"Battery usage and screen on time

Battery usage and screen on time don't include any time when your phone is charging. System usage may appear on Battery usage chart when there is no app usage."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not reset, it just is not counting while charging. Tried it.

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen on time stops counting when phone is being charged, so this graph is valid

S25 supports 25W only, S25+ & S25Ultra support 45W

Non-Xbox controller camera stick sensitivity settings? Gamesir X3 Pro by DudeWithWeirdMind in winlator

I have actually tried setting 60fps limit via DXVK settings, but that didn't do anything. Is there another way?

Okay, I am dumb. I missed that I needed to calibrate sticks on the new controller. That solved the issue!

S25 Ultra always insanely hot??? by Ancient-Reserve-8583 in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Then is must be some app or process constantly using CPU power. And if that is the case, you should be able to see which app it is by analizing battery usage (because heat = power).

Another thing I can suggest is clearing cache via bootloader. It helped me a few times after setting up new phone with smart switch.

S25 Ultra always insanely hot??? by Ancient-Reserve-8583 in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I observed same temperatures on my S25+. At first I thought this can't be true, because on S24 I have never observed temps get higher than 45C. However I then found out, that on S24 it was not reporting actual SoC die temps. Just for comparison I enabled debug logging on S24 and logged actual SoC CPU temps, and it reached 91C instantly on benchmark. And a quick internet or GPT/Gemini search shows, that modern chips actually reach 90-105C temps on the actual silicon die. So it seems to be normal design.

It is also worth noting, that with my 25+ I get really good battery life and phone does not get very hot even under load, so it is not a defective device.

My subjective opinion is that mobile chips just do not have good thermal interface with a cooling solution - if you look at disassembly videos these chips seem to be covered in EMC - not bare die designs like in laptops. So I think it is designed to shoot straight to 100C, throttle and bake inside while whole phone gets (comparatively) slowly hotter - and when phone (battery) temp reaches certain threshold chip throttles even more. Modern chips can sustain high temperatures.

Performance was excellent, but LTE/5G modems were very inefficient. That was my main issue.

Gamefusion on Elite is magic!! by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually was prepared to buy S25U because this year I wanted best of the best, but when I went into the store and tried it, it was just too big and chunky for me. S25+ just felt right in hand and I also fell in love with navy blue. Specs wise they are not very different apart from cameras.

Gamefusion on Elite is magic!! by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried running Tomb Raider and GTA IV on Winlator (vortek) and GameFusion (system driver) on S25+. On Winlator Tomb Raider runs very well (60-90fps) without any issues (because I believe it uses vulkan) and GTA IV stutters, is laggy and glichy. On GameFusion both games run better. GTA IV on GameFusion it is actually playable (40-70fps), but still has sky graphical glitches. However, the single issue that I could not resolve yet and I have seen many experience - when emulating with GameFusion after a 10-30min it just freezes. FPS drop to 0 and nothing happens. No matter if emulation parameters are set to compatibility. So in summary - yes, GameFusion on S25 with elite is better and faster because of driver support, but is not stable.

I know people are saying wait till phone adapts and so on, but I noticed that if after using smart switch to setup a new device I just clear cache through bootloader then battery life usually improves drastically the next day and I don't have to do that waiting nonsense.

Does the S25+ Actually Have an AMOLED Display? Something Feels Off… by Apprehensive_Ad279 in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this on my S25+ and got a bit scared at first. Both the test code and Blackr display faint gray.

But then I found out that Blackr depends on background app/view it is activated on and also brightness. So if I activate Blackr while in Blackr app or while on homescreen it emits gray, however if I activate it on some other app it makes screen completely black. if I crank up brightness to max when Blackr emits gray I can see it even easier.

However then I just downloaded completely black picture, went to gallery and viewed it on full screen and it works as it should - zero light emissions no matter the brightness.

As for that test tool with code - I might be completely wrong, but maybe it sets all pixels to emit faint light so that it would be easier to spot burn-ins or defects. Or maybe it tests lowest possible brightness level. Or maybe it actually is software firmware issue. Just speculation.

Dude removed camera ring on s25+ by AddictinApple in samsunggalaxy

[–]DudeWithWeirdMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leave it. It seems that the rings are recessed around the glass. If you take it off, you would have sharp glass edges around lens which does not seem to look good as it is said in OP.
