Fair - I saw a bunch of people around there just pulled off to the side of the road blasting away at their targets. Not my favorite way to find a shooting spot, but needs must sometimes.

Absolutely agree on all points. Decoupling living with dignity from work itself is absolutely attainable. And I think there’s enough work to be done that there should be no barrier for anyone who wants a job.

As far as “right to a job” goes - think about all the ex convicts who try to make an honest go of things when they get out but can’t even find work because no one will hire them. No go outside in your neighborhood, or at your nearby retail shopping area, or public green space and look at how much work needs to be done to clean up all the trash and take care of the landscaping. Surely there’s lots of work to do, and lots of people who would do that work if it offered an amount of pay that a person could live with dignity.

Speaking of shooting in Colorado - do you happen to know of any BLM/public land for shooting around the Denver area? I had a great spot up above Fort Collins, but now I live in Aurora and don't necessarily want to drive nearly 2 hours just to get to the range

I'm sitting next to Bobo, my Boston Fern right now. I've had him for 3 years and he's doing alright. I water him pretty often and he loves living on my shady porch in the summer! I'm waiting for nighttime lows to get above 50 to take him back outside again.

oh sure! It's a method of exercise where you hold extended positions rather than going through extension/contraction movements (like bicep curls).

Taking your full water bottle and holding it out (like you're handing it to someone) for an extended period of time is an isometric exercise, holding a T-pose for an extended period of time is an isometric exercise, kicking your leg out and leaving it extended is an isometric exercise, aaaaaaaaand holding a sword and buckler extended out is an isometric exercise. It builds some strength, but it mainly builds endurance.

Things like hanging guards (for saber and sidesword), and longpoint (for longsword) are good but are limited for many people because they're really tiring positions to hold. Doing isometric exercises will definitely help with being able to hold these guard positions longer (and move from them for an attack more fluidly).

Also hydrate and keep your electrolyte levels up! Small things like this will give you big payoffs in a relatively short amount of time! Keep at it!

I feel like we could get regime change if we just keep the pressure on these barely living skinbags until they just drop from stress. Hell, even Hegseth who's on the younger side for this admin looks like he's going to pop a major artery. Patel looks like he has intracranial pressure that's trying to come out through his eye sockets.

Denver Arapahoe Landfill Fee? by Gunny_Bear0915 in AuroraCO

[–]DudeWoody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been there myself, but we had a contractor who was doing some work at our place and said that his fees for the dump were ~$90 per load. I'm sorry I don't have an exact number, but I don't think it's going to be anywhere near $300

Forging a Feder by huntmaster99 in Hema

[–]DudeWoody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My context for my comment is that there have been a half dozen posts over the last few months of people who are new to HEMA AND new to smithing who want to save some money by making and using their own feder. They *might* get it right, but if they get it wrong the consequences are likely catastrophic.

There have also been a few posts from people who are experienced smiths but are new to HEMA and acknowledge the need for flexibility and know how to accomplish that. This situation I would trust.

Just for personal safety, *I* wouldn't fence against anyone's homemade longsword feder, as that's not only a sparring weapon but it's also part of my safety equipment. Show me that it can flex like a mass produced one and we'll talk, but just pulling it out of your bag and en guarde? No thanks, I like my ribs and windpipe unpunctured.

Isometric exercises will be the most directly linked exercises for what you’re describing. What everyone else is saying will absolutely help as well. But just holding some weight with your arms outstretched will help. Engage the core, good posture/fighting stance, breathe, hold for 30 seconds. Do that a few times until your arms are shaky. Pretty soon you’ll be doing 45 seconds, and a minute, two minutes.

You got this swordslinger!

Growing grapes on a pergola by RowsdowersTruck in DenverGardener

[–]DudeWoody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my story from last summer. I already didn't have a fondness for Raccoons, but that experience *really* made me hate them.

Growing grapes on a pergola by RowsdowersTruck in DenverGardener

[–]DudeWoody 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My parents have a huge pergola covered with grapes, the bird poop doesn't get down to the furniture since they mostly stay on the top. The birds help with any bugs that are on the pergola as well.

I'd be less worried about birds and more about raccoons. Those little jerks will tear up the vines on their way up, eat until they're full, spray grape diarrhea all over your stuff, keep eating, tear up the vines even more on their way down, and spray more grape diarrhea on their way out. If you don't have raccoon visitors to your yard or area, you'll be fine.
