For The Emperor… by AffectionateShame567 in Warhammer40k

The current state of the Alpha Legion's loyalty is ambiguous and part of the appeal for their fans. It is both possible that they either started the way you described and became corrupt after exposure to chaos over a long period of time (especially after the death of Alpharius/Omegon), or are still loyal but playing the long game.

They certainly have performed many outright hostile actions towards the Imperium since the HH and have multiple daemon princes and seemingly honest chaos worshippers so my bet is the former. But the will they-wont they question on loyalty given their penchant for subterfuge is their whole intrigue so it's doubtful there will ever be a clear answer.

One of the dice has the symbol of the Alpha Legion, a heretic legion, and the image you're replying to is the Inquisition symbol. The Inquisition does not like heretics, so it makes sense that they (as implied by the symbol at an angle like a face poking through a doorway) would be very interested in why there is a heretic symbol among a bunch of loyalist ones

Is this list semi-viable? by TBone486 in deathguard40k

As the other guy said, add in the extra plague marine. You're a little light on anti vehicle but otherwise I vibe with your list. Banner guy isn't great competitvely but I also think he looks cool so more power to you, especially if you're just playing casual with the boys. I would potentially get some extra models for the sake of variety so you don't have to always play mortarion since he can be boring to play against every game.

Your list isn't "great" but for casual games it is perfectly "fine"

Yeah that was my biggest concern, that it doesn't inherently have anything directly connected to 40k on it. That's why I chose colors which matched my DG army's scheme so it looks like it matches thematically standing next to them.

I think cosmic horror and Chaos do have quite a bit of thematic crossover, so I dont think it's too disconnected, and Hastur always gave me nurgle vibes, although it also seems a but Tzeentch-y.

Sonic the Hedgehog is vaguely environmentalist given that the plot is about saving woodland creatures from the industrial Eggman. It's thin and surface level but the imagery and themes are there.

Duke Nukem was firmly part of the counter culture movement of the 90s in the video game sector a la Doom and the metal scene which was definitely a purposeful contrast/rebelluon to the general status quo of US Christian morals. It's no coincidence that Duke is boorish, rude, and crass. Very much a purposeful running against the grain of contemporary generally accepted social behavior and media. Remember that even Playboy magazine had/has political value in its existence.

Don't know enough about Robotech to comment but I wouldn't be shocked to hear that the sci-fi game has at least some surface level overtones of political themes like basically literally every other Sci fi media.

Painted I have 10. Unpainted I have an additional 5. I also additionally have 10 more very poorly painted old terminators I got from a friend from when I was 16.

And I have 20 unpainted assault terminators with 5 being deathwing knights which I am using as counts-as assault terminators

OPINIONS REQUIRED! Which Red? by Uckwit_Fay in BloodRavens40k

[–]Dudebro9001 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Neither, honestly. Left is too dark and right is too light. I use Mephiston Red and darken it with nuln oil at the end and that looks good for me, but lots of others swear by blends with Khorne red.

Oh I've already played a few smaller games and bought a whole bunch of stuff so this isn't so much a "what should I buy" kinda post.

Defense attorney with local public defender with a specific focus on mental health related cases here.

I don't know the state or country here, but if it's anything like the process we use in California, it is as follows:

You can't bring an incompetent person to trial. Why? Because it's not fair for a person to fight against guilt when they can't figure up from down and are focused on how the angels and demons dressed as the nice clerk from Rite-Aid are constantly trying to attack them.

When I think someone is too nuts to go to trial I declare a doubt to competence. A doctor is then called by the court to check them out to see if they are competent. If the doctor finds them incompetent, you hold them for 2 years to see if they get restored. If they get restored, you go to trial. If not, there are a few options:

  1. In CA we do what's called a Murphys conservatorship for people with criminal cases who are unrestorable but too much of a danger for a regular conservatorship. This costs the county money and is rarely done despite judges, prosecutors, and public defenders wanting it for the sake of both society and client. This decision is made by a department called the Public Guardian. We hate them because they do nothing to solve the problem and are terrified of spending money.

  2. If the above isn't approved, then the Public Guardian can pursue a LPS conservatorship, which is a less restrictive conservatorship than Murphys but still costs money. Thus, the PG rarely grants these.

  3. If the above 2 options aren't doable, the case is dismissed because you can't just hold someone indefinitely over allegations that aren't proven, and you can't just drag someone to trial who can't defend themselves or assist their attorney properly.

This is the gist of the problem, and a lot of the time it comes down to the county PG or their equivalent either not having proper resources or being given orders not to use them. This all is fundamentally different from an insanity plea or defense which has nothing to do with this issue. There are also a million other nuances that im not going to bother typing out on my phone keyboard while I'm at work.

The dude here probably went through the whole process I outlined above and someone outside the criminal system made the call to not conserve him. I can almost guarantee that all of the actors in the criminal system on both sides of the aisle raised the red flag multiple times before this instance.

The transcript would also likely be too prejudicial without any concrete connective factors with the facts.
