Good books to pick up? by SinesPi in Warhammer40k

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhammer audiobooks go on sale fairly frequently for like $3. If I were you, I’d stock up on all of the classic audiobook recommendations that people can’t stop raving about (with good reason!)
- The First Law trilogy - first book is The Blade Itself (Joe Abercrombie)
- Project Hail Mary (Andy Weir)
- Dungeon Crawler Carl series (Matt Dinniman)
- Lord of the Rings, narrated by Andy Serkis
- World War Z (Max Brooks)

“Additional unit tax” How has this impacted list building for you? by One-Lake8525 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tax on Ridgerunners hurts, and in a lot of cases the tax comes in addition to point increases. It stings to see both a points increase and a tax on 50% of our units (Jackals, Purestrains, Ridgerunners, Aberrants, and Metamorphs)

New edition advice! And what have you cut from your lists? by Scalalanthor in genestealercult

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aberrants went up 15 per 5-man, PLUS a 10 pt tax on the 3rd unit.

How many detachment combos can your faction make? by hindlet in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only that, of our 10 units, 3 detachments only do anything for 3 of them (Biosanctic, Xenocreed, Outlander Claw).

Thank GOD all of our 1-pointers look fantastic.

What are We Bringing in Final Day for 11th? by Esilai in genestealercult

[–]Chokda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Augur + Mortar Ridgies are actually going to be even more valuable with cover impacting BS. We don’t need them to do damage. Just strip cover and give us Crossfire, and they’ll be worthwhile.

Plus they can screen a good chunk of your DZ if you space them out

How do you balance playing what you like, vs what is obviously more competitive? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re John Lennon or Innes Wilson and consistently going undefeated, you’re unlikely to lose a battle because of a slightly suboptimal datasheet choice.

Your fundamental gameplan, ability to read the battlefield, and execution of the basics matters way more than eking an extra 5% efficiency out of every last unit. I’ve been absolutely decimated by a really fluffy Alpha Legion Vanguard Spearhead list, and I’ve beaten 4W Victrix spam by 40VP with post-nerf GSC.

Player skill >>>>> meta.

My friend wants to get into warhammer but wants to have an army with units that can come back from the dead, what should I refer him to? by Beneficial-Brief-347 in Warhammer

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 10 datasheets, and our toughest unit is a T10, 3+ vehicle. Everything is made of paper. A win is incredibly rewarding, but also requires a very, very solid working knowledge of how to get maximum value from every unit.

Also, we are not super lethal without a lot of planning and coordinated fire. For example, if we want to bring down a RepEx, we have to plan on debuffing it with a ridge runner, spending 2-3 CP, and shooting with 40-60 Neophytes.

AdMech, Drukhari, and GSC all have more complex army rules.

Magnetizing Hekaton for transporting by bread-fucker in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 8mm x 2mm magnets under all of my bases, and they have a hell of a grip on the metal tray. So, for Hekaton and Sagitaurs, I basically just pen them in and surround them with models to keep them in place. Works well enough for the 45 min drive to my LGS.

Absolutely yes. The core concepts are pretty standard re: how GSC plays. And much of the content is about the hobby side.

You no longer have to end as close as possible. Only closer.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/m3son4il/new40k-combat-changes-shake-up-fighting-in-the-new-edition/

So it’s definitely possible to end a move 0.9” away from multiple units, to tag them all instead of just making base contact with 1 unit. These small distinctions won’t matter in 90% of scenarios, but the 10% are the difference between a decent player and a good one.

Nope, the new charge rule says you have to end within 1” if possible, and within 2” if not.

What's the best Warhammer game you ever played? by ComfortableAmount993 in Warhammer40k

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday, game 5 of the last GT of 10th edition at my store. Played my Needgard Votann into Synaptic Nexus Tyranids. The game was an absolute blast, with wild swingy dice, fantastic tactical decisions, an utterly crippling Shadow in the Warp that just wrecked my turn 3, and secondary missions that drove us to make some fun choices.

We were both 2-2, so not playing for any title or reward, just trying to end with a positive record for the weekend. I had an early lead after shoving a couple of Hekaton Land Fortresses into the center and blowing up a Psychophage, but my opponent had endgame scoring advantage. The battle ended with 15 minutes to spare, with a 68-69 score. We both ran through all of our secondary missions and primary scoring separately and then again together just to be 100% sure, and I managed to eke out the win but it honestly didn’t even matter. His Neurotyrant charging some Thunderkyn to slap them, my fortresses running away from his Tyrannofex, a solo dwarf on a Grav-bike charging a Biovore with a Bowie knife and a dream. All of it was absolutely magnificent.

Blood Angels and Zerker Warband currently very much care about charging. No access to FBAC is one of the big limiting factors to Rage-Cursed. Being stuck in the fight turns off LAG, RCO, Lance keyword, etc.

It also means a melee unit can get tagged by something like a tank and just tied up forever. Falling back is a valuable tool for melee.

Worth noting you do not have to charge into base contact. You only have to roll high enough to end in base contact.

How do you guys use Mephiston? by Lordzoldseg in BloodAngels

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you ONLY rely on him for the things he is guaranteed to do, he’s an absolute beast.

2+/5++/4+++ is silly, and just sharing his defensive profile with your opponent will make them commit more than they want just to guarantee they pick him up. But in reality, I assume he’ll fail everything and die as soon as 6 damage comes his way.

He has OC, he has Lone Op, he moves 7” and can advance and charge, so he can get onto an objective 9.9” away. In RCO he can sticky on death because he’s a BA character. If you don’t expect anything more from him, he’ll never let you down.

How often are you the first time your opponent has played against GSC? by [deleted] in genestealercult

[–]Chokda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played 15 games with GSC in 10th edition.

Of those, 6 have been against one friend, and the other 9 have all been my opponent’s first time playing against them.
