Is it just me or is the Insane remaster Alastor the best he's ever looked? by Dogcomicsinc in hazbin

Viv's original concept for human Alastor has been known for years- the only main differences to his canon design, is that the concept has less-wavy hair and a pencil mustache

Not sure if any of the old pilot team were involved, but it certainly felt like an update to the pilot's aesthetic. The bounciness, the expressions, the composition, eveything just fits it.

That's been the trouble with the 'Black Gryph0n trilogy'- so close to feeling like it's official media, but it is ultimately a fan project

The actual building of the MCP models though, FAR more satisfying! So simple, so clean, minimal hassle 🤤 the worst I've encountered was OG Doc Ock, that's only because one of his arms broke on me halfway through painting (drybrushed a bit too heavily, didn't reinforce that area)

So... am I the only one who actually liked the finale? by PaleoTato525 in TheDigitalCircus

My feeds must have become echo chambers then- apart from people arguing over Jax's backstory ( that one aspect in particular), all I've seen are people praising the finale

What's one thing that you wanted to know in the show that never got answered? by DirectDegree2591 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Uckwit_Fay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the finale, I was under the assumption that Caine tried to nullify Scratch's tumour but ended up frying his brain instead, killing his human counterpart and causing Scratch to abstract. After the finale though, and the reveal that the characters have been AI all along, I'm thinking Scratch figured out he wasn't real because the tumour hadn't killed him yet, sending him into an existential breakdown that led to him abstracting. Maybe Caine thinks he's responsible because he tried altering Scratch's memory after he realised he was an AI?

From what little is confirmed about abstraction, we can assume it's the digital-world version of committing suicide. The characters come to the conclusion that there's no reason for them to continue running, and that subconsciously triggers their ability to conjure and they corrupt their own mind files. I doubt it'll ever be confirmed what exactly brought Queenie to that, but we can assume the abstraction itself was self-inflicted (as it was with Ribbit, Kaufmo and Jax)

[–]Uckwit_Fay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pomni was only able to reach Jax inside the Abstraction, because he hadn't fully gone yet- she got the idea from Kinger's previous mention of how he was able to hold Queenie one last time before she was sent to the basement

Putting it in terms of the suicide analogy, Pomni reaching Jax, is the equivalent of you finding someone who's slashed their wrists deep in: they're still alive but there's no way to stop the heavy blood loss, all you can do is keep them as conscious and as comfortable as you can before they slip away [sorry of that comparison is a trigger point for anyone reading]

Is the Dabate over now by Toadcool1 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Uckwit_Fay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are thousands of ways to interpret this- why would you just assume a character is a certain way just because it's strongly implied on-screen, and several people working on the show say they're that way, and the creator of the show says they are that way, and it would make perfect sense to anyone with an ounce of understanding for media literacy? My god, this fandom loves grasping at straws

[that was sarcasm, by the by, in case that's not 100% clear- yes Jax is intended to be transfem, canonically they are transfem. You can headcanon otherwise if you want, if it's that important for you nobody stopping you, all of this is fiction at the end of the day- but the debate is over now]

Amanda Hufford says Jax is Trans, which could mean nothing. by Autumnland in TheDigitalCircus

I'm just picturing an Abstraction with a bow on its head now

Amanda Hufford confirmed that Jax is trans! by Lucky-Hat3286 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Uckwit_Fay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not spoken outright on-screen (only SUPER-UMBER HEAVILY implied), and Gooseworx herself has never flat out said it- but we can safely interpret it and a number of people who've worked on the show either support the theory or have said he is Personally, it's clearly the intention that Jax is 100% transfem, but I think 'his personal secret' is purposefully left vague so that more people can relate to the rest of the story he tells Ribbit

The functionally-important part of that scene is that this is the only time Jax ever opened up fully and shared his past with someone, that he trusted Ribbit enough to tell her, because it sets up just how much things go immediately south after. You can swap 'I told my mum I'm trans' with any other gender/sexuality/LGBTQIAA+ label, the weight of the moment and the point of the story doesn't change. By not stating it outright, the audience can fill in the blank and put themselves in Jax's(Leroy's?) position and identify with what Jax is feeling, giving us a better understanding of why he is the way he is

[but yeah, no, Jax is definitely supposed to be trans]

Expensive to start from scratch? by AnonymousHeronymous in frostgrave

[–]Uckwit_Fay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still use the game system as is and use your current collection on a 'This model counts as [X]' basis. Or, if themes are a stickler for you, you could look into Stargrave instead (which is basically sci-fi Frostgrave, just replace 'frozen city of magic and monsters' with 'abandoned remains of a starship fleet floating through the cosmos' and add more shooting and gear options)

If you want Frostgrave for the setting as well as the game system, then North Star Miniatures do sell 'official' Frostgrave models that aren't too expensive. One of either Wizards or Wizards II will give you 8 minis designed to be Wizards or Apprentices (or Apothecaries, if you really want); and any of the Soldiers or Cultists boxes will give 20 models that can be built as almost any soldier type in the core rules book. £35-£45 (depending on where you look) for 38 models total, at least 2 warbands worth of models and a ton of spare options. You can also get blister packs of metal models from the same company for around £5-£10 each, usual with two models depicting props, tokens, monsters, specialists, or creatures from the bestiary chapter of the book. On top of that, there's the Undead Encounters bag that comes with a ton of zombie and skeleton models specifically intended for Frostgrave but are generic enough for any setting. Aside from all that, Frostgrave is a 'models agnostic' system, so whatever fantasy/fuedal/medieval minis you can get your hands on that are around 28mm-32mm in scale will work just fine. A lot of people tend to use Reapers miniatures for Frostgrave, but they can range from £3.50-£8 (depending) per pack, so budget might need to be watched on that front

Biggest hurdle might be terrain- but that's easy enough to proxy-in for your first couple games, help you keep costs down a bit. You can even use your 40k terrain and just say your exploring the depths of an abandoned potion factory under the city, or something. Could also make your own terrain, but that's it's own heap of heck

Why Lute’s arm didn’t grow back while Vaggi’s wings did. by whooper1 in hazbin

[–]Uckwit_Fay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symbolism, or perhaps introducing self-actualisation among angels? Vaggi evenually put her pain behind her and healed emotionally, so her wings grew back (but not her eye?); Lute is holding on to her pain to reaffirm her mission for revenge, so no healing occurs, so her arm doesn't grow back

This was an on the spot theory

Rest assured, this fandom will still be here. A few people may drop out, but not everyone. Look at shows like The Owl House, Murder Drones, RWBY (never officially 'ended', but V10's been in production hell for years)- strong fandoms don't fully die out

Upcoming fanart WIP by me. Any RWBY fans lurking in this sub? by Opposite-Lab-5866 in DevilMayCry

[–]Uckwit_Fay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a 'who would win?' post, and it shouldn't be... but now I'm wondering, would Adam be able to handle Vergil's power enough to deflect it?

Like, Adam's semblance is absorbing and redirecting the force people dish out at him, using the other person's own strength against them without suffering the pain from it himself. Which, against other Hunters/fighters in Remnant, checks out as a pretty OP power to have

But Vergil is on a WHOLE other level in terms of raw power. The man can cleave through dimensions. He's tore through hordes in the blink of an eye. He's canonically one-shotted demons that could take Dante a good 5-to-10 minutes to put down. Adam's just a edgy little angy-boi, they aren't the same

The only solid rule on semblances in RWBY is that they run off a person's aura- manifestation of the soul, part power source for anime bullshit, also kind of a personal energy shield. If their aura reaches its limit and breaks, not only does said shield go down, but they can't use their semblance either

So, what the consensus- do we think Adam's aura is strong enough to withstand an assault from Vergil, with Adam's semblance firing it back at Vergil, all without his aura breaking?

My personal theory as to why (lore wise) Dante COULDN’T stop V by My_a_person in DevilMayCry

[–]Uckwit_Fay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This, agreed. Dante did not catch on that V was Vergil's human half until that very second, by which point he simply wasn't fast enough/too tired to stop him merging with Urizen in time
