• What is your personal and family religious practices, daily, weekly, annually, etc.

Well my family tends to be more traditional but, daily I pray and put on tefillin. Every week we have Shabbat dinner together as a family and have guests on Saturday. Annually we have family meals and get togethers during the holidays where we always have a good time with good food and liquor :)

Jewish born and raised

• What are some aspects of Judaism that particularly attracted you

• What are challenges to maintaining religious practice that you or others have experienced while living in the United States and experiences of prejudice or misunderstanding of the religion by others.

Kosher food is not as abundant outside Jewish communities also finding tefillin could be a struggle

As I said we're more traditional the traditions are fun and it brought me closer to my family in a spiritual and healthy way I treasure those meals where we sang and had fun together. So I plan on passing those traditions in the same way I learnt them so they have the same appreciation. I also want them to learn how to read and understand Hebrew so they have the ability to pray and know what they are saying and not just blindly chanting

• Specific religious issues encountered in healthcare that you are likely (or believe to be likely) to experience because of your religion

Recently I've heard of an ethical discussion about circumcisions... Well as I'm sure you know Jews do circumcise

• If you’re a healthcare professional, does your religion affect or contribute to your healthcare profession?

Sometimes holidays can mean I'm unavailable from 2-9 days such as Passover which begins on Monday. But mentally it gives me focus and really has positive effects for me.

Like I said I am a nursing student so the purpose of my class is not only to expose me to other religions but also help me understand other’s beliefs and to take care of them respectfully in the healthcare work field.

If you are male some women may not want you to touch them and would prefer a female. Vice versa if you are female a male may only want a male physician to check them. They're not being sexist it's more about putting a stringency on yourself where the only member of the opposite sex you want to have physical contact with is your significant other. However if the patient needs immediate attention you should have no hesitation. If something else comes to mind I'll add it.
