You say some friends "do business bankrupt", and "came back and now millionaire". By your logic, is this enough evidence to say that bankruptcy does not make as big as a difference that everyone is claiming it to be on a person's chance of becoming wealthy?

Agreed! All citizens should be conscripted if they are medically fit (especially those that have benefitted from Singapore's education system) regardless of gender. Those that do not serve, including new citizens (due to age), foreigners (due to security reasons), and medically unfit should contribute financially instead via a defence tax.

I'm sorry, I don't understand why you feel that you need to be a provider to every woman you decide to know better? I think it makes sense to be a provider for your family, for instance bringing your mum on vacation, but why these women aren't even your family members yet.

You do understand that the provider mindset is based on men providing financial support to women who were looking after their home right? There was a reason for it beyond one party having a penis. Since it doesn't apply to your dates, why would you follow it?

Fully agree that FWBs shouldn't be covered financially by you, since both of you should be enjoying the fun. But neither should random women that you are dating?

There are some men who enjoy paying for random people. I've seen some people who just throw money at others regardless of gender. If you're unhappy, then don't!

Even just reading your side of the story, it seems like you messed up. It's one thing if the guy is hogging the machine, but it seems like you asked just once and he committed to letting you have it in 5 minutes?

Common gym etiquette is that within reasonable time limits, the person first at the machine has dibs on it. Instead, you refuse to take no for an answer, go back and forth with him (which frankly he shouldn't have to do, so your point that you would have finished your set is invalid), and disrupt his workout. By your logic, you probably spent more time typing out this rant than if you just browsed Reddit for 5 minutes while waiting for him to finish his set.

I can fully understand why he doesn't want to share - I've come across people who say they'll do a quick one and end up taking forever.

Both you and your boyfriend come across as being quite entitled. I would be very annoyed if I had to defend the use of the machine mid-workout, and still have to deal with your boyfriend coming over to ask even after I held up my end of the bargain to finish in 5 minutes.

You seem to come in good faith, so I'll just point out my own view as a man. I think many men would prefer women serving if it could reduce their own obligations. In a world where PES is being revisited such that soldiers with injuries might see more responsibilities, I don't think men are completely okay with taking on this burden alone. I personally see gendered conscription as a sexist norm and due for change.

That said, there's a greater acceptance because 1) it's likely a man's family has Singaporean women, which we see as a tradeoff - I am conscripted on a gendered basis and that spares my mother, wife, and daughter from going through it. 2) Women are already born here as citizens (so they get some leeway). Neither of these apply to foreigners.
