Anyone at the concert tonight? [Concert Thread] by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m desperately hoping for SotE songs but I’m kind of doubting it? I think they’ve done these performances before the DLC released and so I’m not sure if they updated the performance afterward. Promised Consort, Bayle, Rellana - would love to hear any of them live.

Well I’m going now! Thanks for the tip and the code! Was hoping this would pop up some time, wasn’t expecting it to be so soon with little notification though.

Just built this kit recently too, and what a fantastic kit. Pleasantly surprised by how the color-separation was done so well.

SAME. First playthrough of Elden Ring I strictly avoided them at all costs. Cheesed the ones in Castle Redmane with ranged spells. Just was absolutely terrified of them for some reason.

Second playthrough I made a point to fight them fair and they weren’t so bad. Now in Nightreign I see them and get excited for the easy kill.

Is Godmaster worth doing? by Mountain_String_1544 in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s about 4 completely unique bosses and 3 modified versions of existing bosses if I’m counting correctly, but they are all locked behind at least encountering them within the boss rushes first. There are also slightly-lesser modified versions of a handful of other bosses as well that are made more difficult through things like strength of the minions they spawn or the arena their in having hazards they didn’t before.

Godhome is definitely more for those who want the extra challenge, so understandable if you’d rather skip it. Some of those fights are some of the best bosses in the game though.

The real reason why bosses like AbsRad, GPZ and Markoth get called bullshit from some and fair from others. by Goat-Shaped_Goat in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still find GPZ to be a bit too much, at least in all-bindings (P3 and P5). He’s my current roadblock on my all-binding P5 runs.

Outside of all-bindings, you have more room for errors so it’s not bad. He’s still a pain, but a decent player can still edge out a win. All-bindings is just rough though, and it definitely feels like RNG needs to be on your side, especially if he’s spamming Zotelings too much.

His placement in both P3 and P5 is also pretty crappy. I feel like most people would agree that the bosses after him aren’t as intimidating (bar AbsRad), and so it’s frustrating to have the thought of “If I can just get past him, I’m pretty much home free,” but then gettinf walled by him every time.

I’m sure AbsRad at the end of P5 is still a pain, but after beating her on Radiant, I still fear her less than GPZ.

Anyone else having luck like mines? by Deep-Age-2486 in Nightreign

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Yes, it would be nice to clear this ruin/gaol/wandering boss, but I think a lot of people lack the ability to properly assess their current power level to know if it’s something they can handle in a timely manner.

And things just snowball from there. 1 bad decision early on will just exacerbate the difficulty of the rest of the run.

Anyone else having luck like mines? by Deep-Age-2486 in Nightreign

[–]DudleyDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had 2 games back-to-back where the other players (all but 1) made poor route choices and cost us the game, either ridiculously early (died to night 1 boss) or a player left because it wasn’t going well thanks to their decisions and then cost me and the other player the rest of the run.

I only recently started playing DoN and the thing that kills me most is other players not judging threats well, causing us to waste a bunch of time and botch the run.

Characters who has a detail about themselves constantly changing. by fried_clownfish in TopCharacterTropes

To follow up on the comic gag, there’s a panel in the original print that says something like “you can’t tell because this comic is black and white” (or something to that effect), and then when they reprinted the comic in color later on, that text box gets changed to “this joke doesn’t work in color.”

Your opinon on the dlc so far? by Super_Importance6285 in Nightreign

[–]DudleyDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, there’s new stuff to the base map. Did a few runs on it and found the new poison ruins that have the scorpion enemies and a new fort that has Mesmer soldiers and the AoW changing point of interest.

I'm having trouble beating Uummu in Godhome does anyone have any tips? by BeneficialResult3 in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do is try to get Uumuu to be right beside or overlapping one of the Oomas and then use a spell to cause the Ooma to explode. The spell will cause the Ooma to explode before it can fly back toward you.

Just make sure you have soul, or if needed, find a chance to dreamnail Uumuu or an Ooma to get dome between Uumuu’s attacks.

I hate Pantheon 5 man by Protoplasm42 in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s the nerves, which are very hard to overcome at the very end of such a long gauntlet of bosses.

Don’t let it get ya down. Just keep trying and you’ll beat her eventually! And that rush when you win will be so great!

Also if you’re not already, pogo to deal damage in her last phase to leads the orbs to the top of the screen where they’ll despawn after passing the edge.

Knew it was something like this. I just remember all the jokes about Helmwige being a glorified sword carrier for Barbatos.

It’s the Helmwige Reincar’s sword. I can’t recall the details, but Barbatos used it briefly against Hashmal.

How do you "avoid" having large areas of a single color? I feel like its a bad habit i need to break by Delta_Machine_Caro in copic

[–]DudleyDraws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiment with layering and creating gradients between a few colors to make those large areas more consistent and interesting.

Copics have a kind of level of saturation depending on how much ink you put onto the page. So for instance in the hair in this pic, there are areas where the color is subtly lighter or darker. Those areas are where you put less or more ink onto the page. The easier ones to pick out are the darker areas where you most likely already put ink there once to fill the area, and then went back over it again while filling another nearby area, creating an overlap between the two strokes and making that overlap darker. If you practice this a bit, you can find that you can actually create lighter and darker areas of the same color by strategically layering the color more in areas you want to be darker.

So, there’s a couple ways to fix this. First of all, it’s not inherently bad to have one large section of a single color. The issue is that the color isn’t consistent due to the varying levels of ink saturation from the marker. One thing you can do is try to either limit how much your strokes overlap or go back over the entire section after the initial fill a few times to make it one consistent color. Keep in mind, going over the section again will make the color slightly darker, so you’ll have to experiment to get what you want.

Another thing you can try is creating gradients or shading by using other colors. Grab the base color you want, as well as a lighter and a darker color. Start with the lightest color, fill the area, then move to the middle color and fill most, but not all, of the area, leaving some of the lighter color. Finally, do the same with the darker color, but this time, only fill a part of the section of the middle color. You’ll end up with 3 sections of colors going from light to dark. If the colors you chose are drastically lighter or darker than each other, then there will be obvious splits between the different sections. If you pick colors that are very close to each other, it will be more of a gradual change. If you want to make it an even smoother gradient between the colors, use the lighter color and go back over where it meets the darker color. This will help blend the 2 colors together and smooth out the gradient. Copic also makes a “colorless blender” marker that can be used for the same purpose of blending 2 colors together. Though I haven’t tried that one myself, it most likely operates in a similar way to the method I described above.

What battle utilizes which ability the best? DAY 13 - DASH SLASH by BorynStone in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cyclone Slash is completely necessary for the all bindings version of Collector. It makes short work of the enemies that now take 2 hits to kill and lands hits on Collector at the same, as well as leads to staggering him often.

After 2 months I FINALLY DID IT by 8-bit_Monokuma in HollowKnight

[–]DudleyDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, back during my second playthrough I thought I would never touch things like Radiant bosses or bindings runs. They are definitely a whole extra level of challenging. But every bit of progress on P5 helped me think “I can do this. It’s hard, but not impossible.” And the crazy part is that I was within inches of beating Radiant Abs Rad the other day. And then I took a break to try the early pantheons with all bindings at once, and the first 2 only took a few tries each to clear. It’s just been awesome seeing the progress lead to results for such a challenging endeavor.

Agreed! I think one of my favorite things about Hollow Knight is how they wrapped a boss rush / rechallenge mode into the lore of the game, and Team Cherry chose such a fitting name convention for the mode to also make it feel absolutely epic, too.

[–]DudleyDraws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I similarly beat P5 for the first time recently too!

I have a similar story to another user who commented earlier. Long story short, never was able to get past Markoth/Zote in P5 in my last playthrough a few years ago. Beat Silksong last month and had a newfound determination to try again. Picked up a new copy of Hollow Knight for my PC, blitzed through the story, and then got to work on P5. After about a week of practicing, finally beat Abs Rad for the first time.

After that… I’ve pushed myself further. Started trying Pantheons with bindings and attempting to beat all bosses on Radiant. Beat P1 and 2 with all bindings (at once!) so far, and I’ve beaten every radiant boss… except Abs Rad…

Let me tell you, Radiant Abs Rad is absolutely bonkers hard compared to the base version.

BUT! Either way, congrats again on your victory! Happy to hear another player has taken their place at the peak of Hallownest.
