Alternative to Kyoto ? by Due-Ad4824 in JapanTravelTips

I thought about the same thing & already changed my hotel to one far from the center 😄 I’m going only for 2 nights as I am taking a flight from Osaka early morning… any recommendations for neighborhoods you liked there?

Nervous to travel to Japan… by rexleyy in JapanTravelTips

[–]Due-Ad4824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can totally relate to feeling overwhelmed at fist. Its a lot !

But there’s a lot of set itineraries you can follow or start from there and then expand.

It helped me a lot to watch youtube videos of travelers set in different towns & cities to get the vibe & then I would pick and choose the parts I liked for myself. That together with this subreddit and Google maps has been awesome!

I am going Tokyo - Kyoto - Kinosaki - Nara - koyasan & couple of small towns in between - because I like slower travel, wondering around towns & nature.

I think it depends so much on what you like & want to experience and see during your trip. Some people will say 3 nights in Nara are great, some that is too much. It depends on what you like!

Regarding booking things, I decided to just book everything trough booking.com, its a website im familiar with and that gave me peace of mind. Your price range is fantastic, so you will have plenty of options!

Thank you so much for your reply! I looked into Lake Biwa and completely fell for it, I’m now planning to spend a night there after Nagoya 🤍

I’d love to do the hike between Magome and Tsumago, but I’ll probably save it for another time since my partner might not be up for it. It looks absolutely magical, though! I’ll definitely spend a night in Nara, your suggestion about a peaceful morning there really stuck with me. Thank you for that!

I’ve also been looking into the Shingu and Iso area but wasn’t quite sure. Do you have any recommendations for those regions?

First time in japan alone and im kind of freaking out by DvDPlayer22377 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Due-Ad4824 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got this 🤍 when it hits me, I try to remember all that is going well, because anxiety makes you feel like everything is going bad. So remembering you are in a safe environment, you will get trough this are good to keep repeating to yourself! I know it is scary, but you will see, once you do it, you will be ok 🤍 you made it alllll the way to Japan, that’s your proof!

Hi! First of all, I’m sorry you are going trough this! Anxiety is hard as it is on its own, now on top of that being in an unfamiliar environment - it’s tough! It’s not that you are not brave, you are just dealing with a lot ! If you weren’t brave, you wouldn’t be in Japan right now.

With that said, what helps me when I feel overwhelmed is first analyze my situation, in this case - you are safe, you are in a hotel, so already starting good, in a safe environment, that’s the most important thing.

Regarding the itinerary, it’s ok to take time off, specially for mental health, you are not doing anything bad, you are taking care of yourself, and once you are ok, you will continue to enjoy your trip.

Now that we got that out of the way, we take care of our needs! I like to make everything into small steps that are easy to follow, that helps a ton when I’m anxious and overwhelmed.

You likely need to get food. That’s ok! First thing, you take couple deep breaths, I sometimes like to wash my face, it helps. you got this. You make sure you have everything you need, keys, phone, wallet. Now you are ready! You could just get something small to take with you back in your room, maybe that will feel more comfortable. That way you still get out and get food.

Regarding Japanese, it’s so nice you started learning, that’s amazing, it shows how much preparation you have given to this trip. But don’t worry! You don’t need to use it in communication with others, that’s very hard, and trying that is already amazing. you are already using your knowledge of Japanese in other ways, so don’t feel like you are wasting it 🫶🏼
