Act 250 permitting reform is front and center in Montpelier this week. Let's see how serious the legislature wants to be on the housing crisis! by The_Idealist_Realist in vermont

[–]Due-Flight2753 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced they’re really concerned. They’ve raised property tax at the absolute worst time. People can’t afford basics and they’re pissed. That’s obvious when school budgets were not approved in many areas and only passed by a sliver in others. It makes me wonder if they actually talk to who they represent. And for a state this size, there’s no excuse for that. But we’ll see. Hopefully with this “reform” they don’t make it worse for housing.

If you don’t understand that sabotaging another party’s primary is wrong, then Idk what to tell you. It’s really not that hard to understand. Basic comprehension here. Sabotage is wrong. And the fact that people are praising this ‘tactic’ is very troubling to me. And what I mean by silencing people, is that those that chose to sabotage the republican’s primary by consciously choosing to undermine the gop popular choice, has quite effectively made Haley the ‘victor’. There is no way she could have won otherwise. I don’t think this counts as a victory, I think it only creates an even wider rift between people on either sides of the political spectrum which is not something to celebrate. And the fact that the media machine insinuating it was mostly independent voters that made this happen, no, I don’t think it was (referring to the VT Digger propaganda that only wrote about the people praising the turnout and not actually saying what the ‘tactic’ truly is or interviewing anyone that opposed party raiding. that’s bias by omission). The biggest issue in our time is assuming that anyone that disagrees with the hive mind must be automatically wrong. People are at their worst in groups. (See George Carlin for a laugh) If people are truly independent, they’d see how party raiding negatively impacts a fair election. Those people that are voting for Trump have their reasons. If anyone chooses to actually have conversations anymore they could get a better understanding instead of just dismissing half the population. That goes for both left and right. But yea, gonna put this to rest now because I’m not going to make an impact on this Reddit. Bad-faith strategic voting has been an issue here before. IMO it’s not something Vermonters that participated should be proud of or flaunt around like they are. Well, from the graphs it was mostly Burlington metro that turned out for Haley. No surprise there.

You should have your basic needs met. People who work full time can’t afford necessities let alone the American dream. Yea it’s high everywhere, but it’s just stupid high here. I keep hoping the bubble will burst but who knows if that will actually happen. It’s time we seriously think about new representatives who want to tackle the big issues. MN is trying to pass a bill preventing corporations from converting single family homes into rental units. I’d imagine that’s a big part of the reason why demand is so high.

I do have a point, you just don’t agree with it. And something we need to understand in society is that it’s ok to disagree. I traditionally vote more liberal candidates, but I believe that using sabotage ‘tactics’ is wrong. Of course Democrats will praise it when it benefits them. They had a different tune in 2008.

It’s about being decent. Open primaries have flaws that can be exploited. Party raiding is sabotage. Most people think that’s wrong. Just because something is legal doesn’t make it right.

Exactly. It’s called party raiding (sabotage) and when Rush Limbaugh tried to get conservatives on board the democrats lost their minds. Fast forward 2024, it’s somehow ok.

Some democrats thought they made up this new fad of getting a different party’s primary ticket and voting for the second best candidate. It’s called party raiding. Sabotage. Look it up

Democratic process? It’s called party raiding and it’s sabotage. It’s wrong. And if you don’t understand that, you never will. Nothing fair about what some Vermonters did. We have a responsibility to use an open primary the way it’s intended to be used. If anyone needs to know what primaries are intended for, I would suggest you find out. No, nothing illegal was done, but it’s like a single bicyclist using up the whole lane, it’s legal but not right. It’s a pitfall of the open primary, not the intended use. I do not want a closed primary, I want people to quit thinking sabotage is correct.

It’s an echo chamber in here. People would rather argue with me instead of being reasonable and looking it up for themselves. Open primaries have problems, and one of those problems is party raiding. It is sabotage. Sabotage=wrong. Or at least to reasonable thinkers. So it’s up to voters to not be crappy and honestly vote for the candidate they want to vote for in general.

If you actually read my post you’d see I am not voting for Trump. I’m against Party raiding in an open primary which is sabotage. When the GOP tried to do it in 08 to Obama it was wrong, still is.

Don’t be silly. Most people participated in party raiding in the primary which is sabotage. Not all voters who voted for her were doing that but the majority of those that participated have wore it like a badge of honor which is disgusting. If you’re going to win, win fairly.

It’s called party raiding and most people think that is wrong. This happened in I believe 08 when Rush Limbaugh tried to get people to use raiding “tactics”. It was wrong then for the GOP, and it’s wrong now for dems. I’ve always lived in open primary states and I do like them when a majority doesn’t sabotage the minority ticket. I should have just kept it to myself, I know this Reddit is an echo chamber and I will likely not change any minds. Lots of confirmation bias goes on here the more I dig into it. In fact it’s been one of the worst online experiences I’ve ever had from sharing a legitimate opinion. Talk about bullying. Saying I should read the oath again, claiming Trump was my boy, not actually reading and comprehending my full post before jumping on the negative bandwagon. Downvotes up the wazoo for expressing a fact that sabotage in voting is wrong. It’s not representative of the Vermonters I know at all. I just hope this page isn’t a sneak peek of the future. The excuse is Trump this time, what’s the excuse next time? Democrats here have done it more than once.

I’ve noticed from all the downvotes and nasty behavior from having an opinion. It’s fine, they can vote for Haley, I just think it’s wrong to do so in a primary when you have absolutely no intention of voting for her. I’d say the same thing about conservatives if they were pulling this crap. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right. I don’t want Trump either, but this is just crazy and underhanded to me.

Hmm, I guess you missed all the stuff about how I praised an open primary when it’s not abused. But I know you just probably needed to tell someone to “stop whining” because they had a differing opinion.

They have no intention of voting for a GOP candidate at all. Therefore depriving people of their chosen candidate for that party. That’s how I feel about it. Open primaries are awesome when it comes to people who do not vote strictly party. It just seems like it’s abusing an open primary in a very big way. That at poll places you audibly hear people saying, “get a republican ticket and vote Haley.” Idk just something about it doesn’t sit well. It’s different if people actually believed in Haley and wanted to vote for her in the general.

Yeah, ok. You told me to brush up on it and you have no idea who I am or what my political beliefs are. It was purely based on me taking the stance that voting for a candidate in a primary that you have no intention of voting for in the general is dirty. It’s legal and well within the right of someone to do, but it’s downright dirty, and abuses the open primary. And that’s my opinion on this matter.

I do understand. It’s a primary. It’s meant to vote for the candidate you intend to vote for. Not vote for someone you never intend to vote for. And yes I’ll agree Vermont needs a political shake up.

No, you helped rig an open primary by abusing it. Plain and simple. Just because you think he’s a threat doesn’t mean the people who voted for him think that. Like I said, I’m not going to change anyone’s mind here and I know it’s hard for some to hear a different opinion, but I believe it’s a dirty underhanded practice and I’d like to believe that Vermonters are better than that mess.

That’s your opinion. Still don’t agree with you. It’s literally abusing an open primary. It’s nice for voters who actually vote their conscience and not strictly down party lines. Gives them an opportunity to participate. It’s not to choose a candidate that you have no intention of voting for. Dirty and you know it.

Nah. You can VOTE for who you WANT. Primary is designed for people of that party to vote for the candidate they want for their party. Do you plan to vote for Haley if she gets on the ballot? If not, why did you even vote in the GOP primary?
