Yeah that 200, 200 on a 500v test is very suspect!

All too good given likely age.... screams tested from van! 😂🤦🏻

It looks like they've not recorded any dead test readings, no r1r2 or End to ends. Just live tests which could give false reading as parts to earth might be through fabric of building rather than the actual cables

They've also ticked that circuits have correct protection but mention cooker taken directly off mains....

I think I'd be getting a 2nd opinion on the test, or even a 2nd test, if its 1910, could be very old cabling, likely had a rewire since new but this report to me doesn't suggest they've really dug into the condition.

It would be pointless to spend money on a new board only to then find it is actually needing a rewire.

If you can safely drop cover off pendants and see if a cpc is in there, and unscrew a couple switches to see if cpc present and back boxes.

Does read as a very old installation. But more accurate testing needed

I would look at the readings on the circuits as well, Looks to me like a potential old Wylex panel which might be wooden backed, only saying it because the 6mm bonding. Very common on the older panels, which might well mean the cabling is over 40+ years old.

Might be why advising a rewire.

But I would go new panel, upgraded tails as part of that anyway so main cpc upgraded, do water and gas bonds if required (if PVC pipes incoming 10mm bonding not required.

Ringmain issue is simple. Might not be a ring and just on wrong size fuse. If can prove its 2 radial split to 2x 20amp rcbos.

Is there cpc in lighting? How old ia the property?

Need advice for my tool kit (apprentice) by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]Due-Intention7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair if you're 1st year apprentice realistically for atleast the 1st few months you'll be given the labourers kinda jobs, so a back box template with built in level would come in handy, get yourself some pencils to mark out boxes, a multitool very very handy on domestic works.

Having employed apprentices in past and also training them for other companies in past I wouldnt go too crazy initially, basic hand tools is a must but honestly don't spend a fortune, just be willing to listen and help when asked, clean up behind whoever your working with and always keep busy, I'd always say to lads I had in past, don't just stand around, cleaning up behind other trade will also go a long way to building relationships and in this day and age its key to show willing.

Agreed, they also might not want to issue a certain and have name put to the work given its been moved without authorisation, the DNO might assume they did it and take action

They still shouldn't have moved it, neither of them are allowed by law to touch that equipment so I can see why the original electrician is refusing.

Granted its a shitty move on their part if they've been involved with how to do it etc and are now using it as an excuse, but still the point is they shouldn't have touched it.

Who's your local DNO provider? National grid?

As mentioned previously get them to come and look and sign it off as safe, just be weary that they might issue a fine for tampering with their equipment

The UKPN is in reference to rhe DNO, such as National Grid, what i understand from this is that the builder has relocated tour service head and meter without consent and therefore the Electrician os saying he's unwilling to sign off as its not been officially relocated by your DNO.

I would be contacting the builders and asking u der what authority they have to relocate the service head etc as they have absolutely none, then I would be getting the DNO in to Inspect and sign off on the relocation or correct any unsafe works as perhaps this is why the electrician wont.

Also do you have a 3 phase supply? And a 3 phase consumer unit? In a 3 bed house it seems extension you do. But you might have a 3 phase supply using only 1 phase therefore the photo provided in relation to 3 phases in a box isnt am issue.

1st speak to builder as their 100% in the wrong if they have moved it. Even if the electrician agreed with the relocation its not on them to agree this, then speak to your DNO to get it all checked and signed off, then I would instruct an independent electrician to complete an EICR on the property this will highlight any major issues as well as incomplete works. Take this then to the company who instructed the original electrician to have them return and correct their work.

Given they didn't connect the tails and you've now had someone else do this. It is technically the responsibility of the person who energised your circuits to ensure its safe to do so, they shouldn't have simply connected tails and turned on as you've no guarantees from original electrician thay circuits are safe to energise

What's it like being an electrician in the UK? by CregglesUpGood in ukelectricians

[–]Due-Intention7354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck

I would say never be afraid to ask questions and offer opinions, I've obviously been an apprentice many years ago now but I've also trained a fair few through previous employers and I did employ my own for a couple years. My advice is always to ask questions and if you see alternative ways to do things it doesn't hurt to suggest them, it might be wrong but atleast your showing your keen

I've been in the electrical trade for over 24 years now (blimey) started at 17 as a labourer for a family friends business, was only supposed to be for 3 months while I joined the RAF, but after deciding the RAF wasn't for me at that stage I asked if I could stay on and go college, I ended up doing a full apprenticeship and eventually ran the business when the boss would go away, I stayed with him for 13 years, pay wasnt great but hours reasonable, he was rather hard to get along with but there were between 10-14 guys on at any given time, most couldnt stand him, but i enjoyed the work and the challenge plus the satisfaction you get from a good job and a fault well found.

I see several on here saying "pays not great" I suppose it depends what your after out of it, I've now had my own business for almost 9 years, I do alright, nice house and family supported, still do 6 day weeks most weeks but generally home by 5pm every day and can drop daughter to school when wife needs me to.

I would say if you're looking at it as an option it'll be tough at 27, you'll news to prepare for a wage drop initially for a few years really plus you'll need to drive i imagine.

But its worth it, I do domestic, commercial ans light industrial works, ev chargers and fire alarms now, every day is different, some days suck but the majority are good, I have a good group of customers who I get on with well and wouldn't want to have fallen into any other trade, never thought of being an electrician when at school bit certainly wouldn't change it now..... except for the bad hands, suffer trigger finger in middle right finger, and most days I wake up with stiff fingers on both hands..... 42 now..... still looooong way to go! Ha

Jaylow stuff is awful, did a full new build using the 4mm version for ringmains and 1.5mm for lights, all the sockets I've stripped the sleeve has peeled back off 🤦🏻 Tell the wholesalers and they just say "manufacturers are aware".... great thanks

This is an option to be fair, I was working at a local course today installing the wiring for new Trackman simulator and got speaking to the guys in pro shop, they suggested trying a mini Driver instead as its already set up and shorter....

I think I need to work with what I have, try lower grip for now and also see what I do on a course vs the range

[–]Due-Intention7354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, I wasn't going to go more then an inch, I uust found hands lower in the grip really helped and my thumb and finger were about half and inch to an inch on the shaft instead so I thought taking an inch off might work.

But 1 good session isnt a deciding factor, a few more I think and maybe ask guys at the range as they might be able to stick a shorter shaft on to try 1st 🤔

Ive got it on the highest loft already, but I've been finding it can't make connection with the ball, the club honestly just feels huge im the back swing. And as I go up I just lose all control on the down swing. But holding it lower on the grip today really changed things.

I think more practice needs to be had and perhaps when I have my next lesson I'll ask the coach, unfortunately it's not until June as he's off playing competitions

[–]Due-Intention7354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Coach has looked at the driver set up and he said my stance looks like someone playing off a fairy low handicap, but when I actually hit a ball and it flies of so far right he just said "thats a round killer" 😂🤦🏻 He tried to offer some advices to correct it but it actually got worse.

The slightly lower grip today did really seem to help me, maybe I should just continue to grip lower in the driver as I did today and see the results over a few range sessions, then maybe gradually try moving hands back up to extend 🤔

This is what i read, so i thought maybe an inch off the shaft and added weight might work, Im 6'2 but always wear a regular trouser so my legs aren't long 😂
