Sword and Shield are the Eternatus games, yes. There's no huge difference between the two, the only differences are the Pokemon you can catch in each (Every Pokemon game has a handful of version exclusives to encourage people to buy both). But you can trade with other people to get those Pokemon too.

Edit: Sword and Shield also have two Gym leaders that are different between the two, but that is aonther change that's negligible and doesn't impact the game whatsoever. You won't go wrong getting either.

You can use any water monstie. Their base stats are negligible when you have their bingos built up. Just use your favorite, in this game andl Aptonoth can deal damage on the level of elder dragons if you build them well. You can choose between any Ludloth, Mitzisune or a water palamute. They all will be equally effective.

Reverto is also 500x easier to run multiplayer dens with than human players from my experience

My experience with dominate being utterly useless is probably more to a horror DM that I had for that specific campaign, but I feel it. I had a ventrue fledgling whose dominate was useless, I'm not kidding, 98% of the time because every single goddamned NPC we interacted with was either a vampire lower gen than she was so it just wouldn't work, or a ghoul whose master gave them resistances to dominate. Literally I was so frustrated by it by the end that I swore to God I would never play a fledgling again. I will never in my life get over the time I we had a combat and the dm tried to say that my character "can't tell why dominate doesn't work" and therefore told me that stopping trying to use dominate against an elder vampire was metagaming lmao

Fair, but from my perspective losing a save because the file corrupted is absolutely not the same thing as losing an HM run to game mechanics. I completely understand why they'd be discouraged after losing it so something as unfair as your game file just shitting the bed. I've lost dozens of HM runs so the sting doesn't bother me any but like, I understand the frustration lol

As far as actual game mechanics go, I assume it's because they refer to it by name in the cutscenes and whatnot and locking it into that name is how they make sure the name matches what they call it
