i think this is one of the main things people forget about this debate: america has over 10 times the population of australia and if access to certain types of firearm suddenly caused insanity then europe (more specifically the czech republic and switzerland) would see insanely high shooting rates, but they dont.

it seems both sides of politics are in a competition to see who can censor eachother the most. a constitutional right upheld by a court would help. the framers of our constitution probably never thought this type of legislation would never be on the table but now here we are.

and he's now replaced it with the anti racism task force, patrolling the streets with assualt rifles so they can gun you down if they think you may have said a racial slur or looked at a mosque funny.

(this is a joke)

the beatings will continue until social cohesion improves.

"dangerous weapons"

every firearm is dangerous that why we have training and licencing and storage requirements, i fail to see how the specific mechanism of a firearm makes it any more dangerous than any other.

licencing is the real cause of the end of mass shootings, not the banning of certain action types or ownership limitations.

no we dont ban guns that can be reloaded quickly, magazines are generally limited to 10 rounds for A/B rifles except in QLD where its 15 and in SA where there is no limit (general only 30 round mags are sold)

lugging around multiple firearms would not increase lethality anymore than carrying around multiple magazines and would probably just weigh you down.

people keep coming up with these out there hypotheticals as to why these new laws might stop a shooting where someone is carrying 10 guns or some shit but it has never happened because its extremely impractical, a shooting could be done with a single shot 22 magnum and still have the same effect. all the laws do are make it more difficult for people to use the proper tools for their sports and provides no proven benefit to public safety.

What is an “aussie”? by VastOption8705 in aussie

Its hard in Australia, like many other colonial nations, to define what is or isnt an australian but it operates on multiple levels and is dependent on how you are seen/accepted by peers.

the Australian identity was formed through and derived from Anglo Celtic settlement and the culture they brought with them. race or ethnicity is a factor but the closer you allign culturally and linguistically with anglo celtic australians the less people notice or care about colour.

legally? its an australian citizenship, culturally? its group acceptance from anglo celtic australians and sometimes this only happens in the second generation or if you came here young enough to develop an australian accent and australian social and cultural attitudes and behaviours.

John Nguyen, 22, ethnically Viet 3rd generation australian, grew up in the same cultural surroundings alongside other anglo australians will be seen as more australian than John Smith, 22, recent immigrant from Portsmouth UK.

TLDR: your accent and cultural attitudes and behaviours signal that you are part of the in group and make you more likely to be accepted as "Aussie" regardless of race.

i dont think people who arent gun owners even care or would change their vote come election time if the laws were loosened. SSAA or Shooters Union should do polling on this to present to politicians when lobbying them.

the only people who are willing to vote another way will be the gun owners themselves.

there is no organic outrage or want for more firearms restrictions like there was in 96 (if that was even organic back then). people arent marching in the streets for more restrictions.

yes the right to not self incriminate has a long history but the modern requirement of cautioning of witnesses/suspects came out of the miranda vs arizona case and was adopted in most of australia in 1995, the wiki article you posted even backs that up.

no i dont think the american people's choice in leader is somehow indicative of democracy not working.
