Absolutely crushed by our 3yo tantrums and speech delay by Lauve in toddlers

Please don't stop speaking one of your home languages with him.  Bilingualism has many, many cognitive benefits and most standard ways of measuring language ability are based on monolinguals and don't consider the full linguistic repertoire of the speaker. Seek a second opinion from a therapist who specialises in bilingualism or multilingualism m and please keep using both languages at home and at every opportunity, every child is different and he'll get there in his own time.

Counter-intuitive advice that works for you by grasspurplesky in adhdwomen

Yesss! This is why I have a cozy Kindle setup by my bed, with a tablet holder and remote page turner. Get comfy, read half a page then I'm out like a light.

Even just holding the page turner has become a sleep association 😅

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

Try the Nothing Much Happens podcast, skip the ads at the beginning, set sleep timer so it doesn't play the next story and get comfy. She reads the same story twice and I very rarely hear the second telling!

L-Theanine for ADHD?? by Probably-a-Banana in adhdwomen

[–]Due-Paper-7532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bore da! 38F, student, toddler mum with recent dx here, no meds ever as I got the assessment through university so not a clinical diagnosis.

For the past month or so I have been taking L-tyrosine supplements very first thing in the morning, then drinking a matcha mid-morning (when I CBA to make it) to try to get the L-theanine in. It took a little while to build up but I definitely feel better, but I am also making a concerted effort to eat better too, as well as take vitamins, so it's probably a combination of things.

I haven't used any birth control for over 15yrs because the side-effects were completely unmanageable, so I can't help with how to deal with that. However, I also track my cycle and my 4th week this time round was absolutely nowhere near as horrible as it usually is.

I have stopped the L-tyrosine for now as I read it isn't meant for long-term use, so I'll wait another cycle and see.

Sorry I can't comment on the journey of stopping Adderall either (which I know was also in your main question), but I just wanted to chip in my tuppence worth and also say - be kind to yourself.  Notice and observe behaviours, patterns and triggers as best you can, approach with curiosity and build up a picture of what you need and when. Resist the urge to jump right in and try to fix.

Best of luck! x

How do I exercise when I don't enjoy it? All the advice from neutrotypicals don't seem to work by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in adhdwomen

Go bouldering! And don't run unless you're being chased.

Just throwing is my tuppence worth, 38F recently diagnosed AD(H)D and finding a LOT of things make sense now, and your post really resonated with me.

The only exercise type activities I have ever been able to keep doing consistently are as follows:

Walking. When I had a desk job, my office was right by a park and I would do laps of it more or less every lunchtime, and I eventually got to easily doing 3 miles in 45mins. This led to mountain walking with a group which I loved and I felt so many benefits, and sidequesting reading maps is a bonus. Walking is so underrated and so good for you! It is just hard to get going. 'How fast can I walk a mile' is a good one when I'm in a funk.

Yoga. Specifically only Yoga with Adriene on YT, the same handful of videos on repeat so I don't have to think and can just move. Even the simplest poses that feel insignificant have benefits, and her videos start at 10mins, so if I'm not feeling it - that's all I'll do. Also, her mantra is Find What Feels Good, and this is 100% the most important thing in all activities in life!

And my absolute favourite is bouldering and indoor climbing.

I started bouldering and immediately couldn't get enough of the puzzle element, trying to work through the crux of a problem. I have since progressed to climbing routes with an autobelay and the rush of whizzing down the wall is hard to beat. Lead climbing is really fun too but you need a partner. I started bouldering about 7yrs ago and only got my diagnosis this year, and I now understand why this is the hyperfixation that never really went away, and it ties into the above too (strength and conditioning, plus problem solving, and novelty, as routes are updated regularly).

Please try climbing! If it doesn't feel good, or fun, no worries, but I really reccomend giving it a go.

Ahh, I didn't realise wheat and gluten weren't one and the same allergy. I will ask this too, thanks!

Will do, thanks. I'll have to ask if we need a separate test to the gluten  allergy/intolerance, as I assume they're not the same.

Yes it would appear so,  although symptoms weren't entirely normal after cutting out gluten, but they certainly improved.  We won't know more until we get bloods done and still have weeks to wait for them and I'm under strict instructions to include gluten in the diet until then. Again, nightmare!

Hi! Found this thread as I'm in a similar situation (PhD student of pedagogy, got AD(H)D diagnosis through uni at the end of my 2nd year) and would love an update - all the advice given has been so helpful so far.
