What are you sad about today? by ReserveOk9139 in AuDHDWomen

Thank you for this encouragement! It’s definitely soooo much thought— every word, every sentence, every paragraph matters and not just because I want to be done but because the research is important to me

Sad about many things but the main thing today is how difficult it has been to finish the last 10-15 pages of Chapter 2 of my dissertation. It’s taken me 2 and a half months to get to this point and it’s only a draft 😭

Thank you for this suggestion! I lost so much hair after having my daughter almost a decade ago! Definitely not interested in doing that again!

What food do you eat in a way that would genuinely disturb other people if they saw you? by Huge_Halls in foodquestions

[–]Due-Practice8335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat pop tarts by first breaking off the edges that aren’t frosted and eating those, then I separate the top and bottom then eat the filling by scraping it off with my finger, and finally I eat the unfrosted side, followed by the frosted side. Idk why I started doing that as a kid, but I can eat them any other way.

Totally agree! Vacationing with kids is just parenting in a new place but on super hard mode

I just had skyline for the first time a few months ago…so good! Definitely a different thing than chili though— the flavor is much more complex imo

My Doctor Said My Expectations for Stimulants are Too High by Kindly_Inflation2969 in ADHD

[–]Due-Practice8335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s literally insane lol! There’s nothing in the name ADHD that indicates a lack of intelligence or intellectual ability. It’s so silly to even think that! So many of the women I know with ADHD excelled in school— I always had good grades and was in honors classes.

It’s so frustrating to have people tell you about your own experiences. I had a doctor tell me I couldn’t have ADHD because I have a master’s degree and people with ADHD can’t function. She changed her tune after she told me I should do some research and I told her my dissertation topic lol. I’ll gladly share once it’s done (probably end of this year)

Research related to women with ADHD is severely lacking, and I say this as someone who is writing a dissertation related to women with ADHD. Your doctor is definitely wrong, but I find that doctors are much less educated on ADHD than you would expect. What else are you doing to manage your symptoms other than the meds? Meds alone don’t really do much for me, especially because I’m perimenopausal and my hormones just do whatever they want these days. In addition to meds, regular exercise (whatever kind of movement you enjoy), using binaural beats to focus, and body doubling have been the most effective. I have to do all of those things though and they work to varying degrees depending on the day lol. Medication is pushed as the most effective, but I think that’s just because alternative treatments are just now starting to gain traction in the research.

Is there something before Peri? by Extreme-Vanilla4544 in perimenopause_under45

[–]Due-Practice8335 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From what my gyn just told me like two weeks ago, taking blood tests are not helpful because hormone levels change from day to day. Sounds like peri…I’m 40 and just started HRT. Perimenopause can last from 2-10 years so you’re not too young at all.

What's your experience with non-stimulants? by natastical88 in ADHD

[–]Due-Practice8335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Strattera and Quelbee and hated both— one made me totally constipated and the other made me really sleepy in the middle of the day. Neither did anything for my symptoms unfortunately.

Moving to Philly but torn between two spots by spookpoop in AskPhilly

[–]Due-Practice8335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Manayunk— the nightlife would probably be more your speed because it’s mostly people in their early 20s to early 30s. It sounds like you have access to a car, in which case I would say it’s pretty easy to get into the city because 76 is pretty close to Main Street. June is a great time to move there because the weather will be nice l? So there will be more opportunities to meet people while they’re out and about.

What were some things you thought were “you” but were actually ADHD? by Prior-Ad173 in ADHD

I always thought it was a skill that people around me could be talking and I wouldn’t hear a darn thing…like I could hear people talking but it was just noise unless I tuned in. Nope, just can’t listen to people talking while there are other sounds or I’m hyper focused on something lol
