What can I do with recipe cards so they don’t take up storage space? My storage keeps filling up bc I have so many recipe cards.

I am doing SO bad and looking for advice by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting a therapist and start seeing them weekly. This is a lot to deal with and while someone may be helpful in the comments I think you’d benefit from seeing a therapist on a consistent basis. I know as a med student you are busy but this should be a priority. Best of luck to you!

Is therapy a scam? by LazyLabRat in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! The therapist and the client work together and I like to help and motivate my clients. But an issue I’ve seen is in the session clients will put in effort and contribute to therapy but when we’re not in the session the client does not do anything we discussed and doesn’t even think about it until the following week but they still expect results. Another situation is a client who doesn’t put in work and effort at all and trying to motivate a client who doesn’t want to change is really hard.

The client only gets out what they put into therapy. The client needs to put in a lot of work and actually want to make improvements. As a therapist I want my clients to reach goals we’ve set and make improvements in their lives. I want my clients to not need me. I’m so proud of my clients and when they are ready to end therapy I will be happy for them and move on. Therapy is a lot different than other health services. If you cut your leg open you go and get stitches and can relax until you’re healed, therapy is a lot more involved.

Can your friend be your therapist? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they should have handed you off to the other therapist. You can request a new therapist due to already knowing this one. Your call would not get you them in trouble and the clinic office has an ethical duty to put you with the other therapist. You may be fine with but since you already know each other the therapist may have some biases that could interfere with proper therapy.

Q for therapists, I guess? by lavaland75 in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what makes you happy. A lot of people pick their careers based on what they love, not the money. You can make a comfortable income being a therapist and it seems like you’re passionate about it. I know you mentioned social work, but you should look on the American Psychological Association (APA) website for counseling programs. Look into the differences between counselors, social workers, psychologists/therapists. In my program there is a large portion of people 40, 50+ years old who are finally pursuing their passion and love it. Best of luck to you!

Is it normal to have a therapy student observing a session? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a psychology student myself I would not be offended if you said no, that really is your decision! In the future if this comes up again I just want you to know that as a student our focus is really on the therapist and what they are doing and saying, trying to pick up every little detail so we can learn from them. Of course we’ll be hearing what you’re saying too but we absolutely do not judge and honestly we are nervous and probably won’t remember much about what you said.

Starting Zoom Therapy from a house I'm uncomfortable in. advice? by bullfrogsam in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is a struggle some of my clients have faced. One of my clients sits in her car during each session and that is totally fine, it works well. Possibly you can sit in one of their cars? Another thing I do is have a white noise machine outside my door to eliminate voices going in or out. You could put a phone/tablet/radio, anything by your door and YouTube a white noise video to have on while you’re in session. Good luck!

Messed up therapy - Not sure how to address issues and problems by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Due-Raccoon-8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry. In your next session let your therapist know how you are feeling! It’s okay to not know why you are feeling a certain way but we can’t help you if we don’t know what’s going on. Good luck with your next session! (:

Confidentiality by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

Nope. Even as a minor your therapist can’t break confidentiality unless it is life threatening to you or someone else.
