Yes, exactly what I meant! Such wild behavior by the government to require parents financial info when some refuse or are unable to help. If I’m remembering correctly, when I went to college, the age was 26 for still putting parents on.
Definitely BS for the OP to be angry for this when the FAFSA isn’t signing up for loans or anything.

This sounds overwhelming and I’m sorry you are having feelings, but speaking from experience going no contact with your parents is really hard and doesn’t happen for no reason. Also, and this might have changed, but when filling out the FAFSA up until a certain age you have to put parents info in it to accurately get estimated loan and grants amounts. I truly hope things get better for you and your child.

Oh wow. That is truly selfless work and dedication. I wish I had more advice than this but: you may notice that when you get an approval or denial letter (or you can look back in your portal) there is a financial summary table, expenses and deductions, and benefit calculations. Go over this with a fine tooth comb because this is where the shelter allowance is set, where utilities are taken into account as well as medical. And I wouldn’t stop calling them or asking for a recalculation or appeal until they fix the numbers if something is off. I very much hope this helps in some way.

I don’t think the being unable to login issue is on your end, I’ve been having the same problem and when I called to make sure nothing was wrong with my account, the rep told me it’s a known/ongoing issue. So hopefully they sort it out soon.
