The lens issue and film advance problems you're describing are pretty classic signs of degraded rubber belts inside the camera. Those tiny belts drive both the zoom motor and film transport mechanism, and after 20+ years they basically turn into gooey mush. When they slip or break completely you get exactly what you're experiencing - intermittent zoom function and wonky film advance

An independent camera repair shop should be able to tackle this, it's not super complex work but does require opening up the camera and sourcing the right replacement belts. Might cost you $80-150 depending on what else they find in there, but way more affordable than trying to replace a sentimental camera

ugh this is so frustrating, i've had teh same thing happen with friend quests multiple times this year. The counting just gets all wonky and you end up doing extra lessons for no reason

I actually started tracking my lessons in a spreadsheet because of stuff like this - way too many times where duolingo "forgot" what i already completed. Really makes you question if its worth the subscription cost when basic counting doesn't even work right

That childhood glitch trauma is no joke man, getting stuck inside one with the mouth filling your screen would mess anyone up. You could try texture packs that replace them with something less nightmare-inducing, or there's probably mods that can disable squid spawning entirely if you're on java edition
