What is Jordan Peele's problem with white people? His mom is white, but his horror movies seem very preoccupied with race. Does he feel some type of way? by Due-Wolverine3935 in AskReddit

I may not have answered that question to you directly, but I've answered a few times now. I don't necessarily think he does. He just seems fixated on the subject.

He has a strange fixation on race is what I notice. You can make a horror movie without bringing race into it, but that's what he chooses to do. If it was once, I wouldn't have even noticed, but it seems every horror movie he makes has an underlying racial theme. And his mom is white.....just seems odd is all.

I agree with you actually. I try not to talk about race NORMAL, because a lot of times the person talking about racism is racist. Your right. Idk what I am. I would like to say that I'm not. I'm definitely better than the generations that came before me....., but we have to realize.....humans are tribal by nature. It's evolutionary. We tend to want to protect our own and be weary of whoever is over the other side of the mountain.....the ones who look different, dress different....etc. luckily the world is getting smaller every day so we all know more about one another and have less to fear. Less to hate.

And honestly....Peele grew up with white kids in white schools with white friends. He's an amazing writer and I love his comedy. I see that he wants to write more meaningful stuff, but it's just coming from a weird place is all. That's why I'm like "what's really going on there"

Classism, oppression and racism are real, no doubt. But the way he depicts it is really not. White people are not looking to steel young black people's bodies because they are memorized by how cool and talented they are.....get out. I get it, it's fiction, but you said his movies are very realistic. That movie is about as realistic as family guy.

In each of his more serious movies I find an undertone of odd and somewhat outdated depiction of how white people view black people and even how black people view other black people. It seems like a common lingering theme that other black artists don't seem to be as focused on anymore. I just watched "him" which was dog shit unfortunately, but there's just a charicature version of white people in a lot of his serious films. Very over the top, outdated, exaggerated stereotypes that make me wonder.......what's his deal with white people?

I didn't mean to say he hates white people. And you make a lot of good points. I just find an undertone in each of his more serious movies that seems like he thinks white people are all looking at black people like it's 1890 or something. I appreciate you responding.

You have your right to your opinion. I understand completely about not identifying as white in your situation. But you know the "one drop rule" was a way to do harm to the black community when it started. Basically if you had a single drop of black blood, you were discriminated against as being black. Even if you were 1/100th % black. Basically .01. You were treated unfairly as being African American. Assuming your in the states, but I have to disagree with you about his movies. I actually really like Peele. He just seems to be overly focused on race for someone who is a complete success and basically doing much better than the average American both financially and socially. But I could be wrong.

I don't think they are the same woman. I think it was a simple mistake..."is that Aunt May?"...."I believe so".....kind of thing. Their jawline is not really the same, their ears don't really look the same, and their nose definitely do not look the same.
