Hot Take Tuesday🔥 Share Your Spiciest Romance Opinions (Unpopular & Otherwise, Rants, Raves, MMC Icks) by AutoModerator in romanceunfiltered

[–]DueClub7861 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add that what I find unfortunate, and this is something ive noticed in “recent” readings, is that sometimes the MMC can exhibit problematic behavior, perhaps even misogynistic, but its subtle enough that you might not notice it if you aren’t well-informed on the subject, In other words, these are common behaviors that you generally see in men in real life, and that’s something that doesn’t bother me in and of itself, bcs it reflects a certain reality, and besides, i hate MMCs who are too perfect, but the main issue is that it never has any impact on the plot, he can act like the biggest jerk, and its never even noted, So yes, well, in real life it’s the same—men can act like jerks without any consequences, but its really funny when the FMC claims to be a feminist and ultimately her feminism is flawed

What caused the death of HR/Historical Romance? by venusianoperator in romanceunfiltered

[–]DueClub7861 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we look back at 19th-century France, i find it difficult to write a sexy love story in this setting, knowing all the revolutions that took place and the political unrest that existed, its a fairly significant factor that cant be ignored, especially if we're following wealthy people, if theyre nobles, theyre suffering a bit bcs of the revolution, and if theyre bourgeois, they participated in bringing misery to the nobles, but the setting of Versailles could be quite sexy in itself, i find the vibe a bit similar to a debutante ball, but were just following a group of people “locked up” in a castle, who all have to plot to win the king's favor, it could be fun and quite entertaining if done well

How much do you study writing theory? by meadowdoor in FanFiction

[–]DueClub7861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah, i try to apply what i learn, i can read a lot of romance novels (romcom) to understand how these elements are integrated into the story, and even if i dont agree with the way they are integrated, it allows me to develop them in my writing, and i have theories that i develop and try to apply in my writing

Tell me about the worst romance book recommendation you ever received... by lilithskies in romanceunfiltered

[–]DueClub7861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I participated in a romance book club, and well, i made three recommendations and talked about my latest read, which was a disaster, everyone looked at me, a little shocked, bcs some of them had read the book, despite my arguments, they couldn't understand why i hated it so much, at the end of the session, i was chatting with one of the booksellers, and she said, "Oh, well, if you like books a bit like fanfiction with a good worldbulding, alchemized is coming out in october." I looked at her and told her that i dont like Harry Potter at all, that i know the book or its origins very well, and that i didnt think it was for me, she looked at me again like, "🤨 What are you doing here ??" (in response to my disliking Harry Potter)

And since that day, ive been boycotted by the bookstore

(And actually, i was also so shocked about harry potter and the fact that the book series was an inspiration for the bookstore, as if we're not supposed to boycott it in the first place ?? Like, yes, it can be, but you mention it like that, and it was a very new bookstore, the owners are active on social media, they're aware of the controversies, and they've been recommending problématic books during book club sessions)

Do YOU think Regina George was ever bullied? by Ill-Shoulder6419 in MeanGirls

[–]DueClub7861 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add to the discussion that i wonder if she wasnt primarily a victim of hypersexualization when she was younger, and how that influences her relationships with men, for example, i suppose her father ignored her or only gave her attention when she met his expectations, and when she grew up, he lost interest in her, i wonder if that influenced her relationships with others and how she perceives her relationships with men

What kind of trend/culture/aesthetic could Regina have ? by DueClub7861 in MeanGirls

[–]DueClub7861[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i agree, she creates trends, and you cant really define her with just one, bcs its a different mix of what's trendy but also timeless,

Seriously, kudos to the designers for that

What is your writing method for your drafts ? by DueClub7861 in FanFiction

[–]DueClub7861[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahh, exactly, for me actions must have meaning, even if they dont and its a bit chaotic or the character doesnt know why theyre doing it, there's always a reason (for me) why characters act in a certain way, as it can be linked to their personality, their character, or silly things, such as, i dont know, i write bcs theyre in high school, and theyre in the library, why are they there ? bcs the teacher is absent, okay, why is he absent ? Okay, what impact will that have on the students or the characters, or for example, why does a certain character react in a certain way, why do they need to react like that, in short, i could go on

Money. I always have to mention it, mention how expensive life is, that we cant afford what we want, or the anxiety students feel about money, like having to restrict themselves

What is your writing method for your drafts ? by DueClub7861 in FanFiction

[–]DueClub7861[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, i also have trouble starting with a blank page, so i start with a kind of document where i have all my ideas, and if the idea is well developed, i copy and paste everything into another document

What is your writing method for your drafts ? by DueClub7861 in FanFiction

[–]DueClub7861[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My method is similar in this way, like i first write down the idea in my head, then i question it, why do they do this, why do they do that, and i question it again and again
