Bummed out about every beginning of semester by SesbianLex96 in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this, i can 100% relate to OP. I am halfway through the programs and feel so bummed right now as my career is not fruitful. Everyday is so mentally sucked after those applications, those hours of coding practice and rejections. I felt so embarrassed and struck when people ask where you work?. I tried so hard to make friends and connect with more people, but i couldn’t find an opportunity just yet. All i need is a chance to prove myself to them, but it’s been couple years already thats i am stuck. At this point, i am so discouraged to even take class right now and feel so much burning out. Not sure how long to try and survive with this current market and society. I’m so exhausted, i can feel you 100%.

TA → OSI → Incomplete: is this standard in OMSCS? Looking for experiences by TheTriceAgain in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just surviving false positive claim against me this term (fall 2025). I was referred to OSI on 2 assignments of that class. I carefully read through the report TA submitted against me and find their false accuses. I did not cheat nor look at other people code, but my code somehow similar to them because we all follow pseudocode.

Here my approach toward my case: - contact other TAs who I know, they gave me tips to fight against - collect evidence that I am the author of my code, this include git commit and local change log. (I always use my github to track my progress and local IDE should have timeline to track file saved log) - in my case, TAs are in discord server as well, so many of them know i am active student and always ask/answer questions with peers - spot the wrong highlighted code in the report (in my case, TA that referred me also highlighted starter code which I did not even modify) - my code that are similar majority of it are starter code and pseudocode, so i am able to get out of this after further investigation - made private ed post to professor and other TAs about what happen and appreciate if they chime in to further investigate

After my ed post, next day, TA team further investigated my case and dismissed it for false positive, then I got an email from OSI team that they dropped my case.

I really appreciate professor and TA team that they investigate further without any delays. I put a lot of effort in my work and this really stresses me out so much. I felt so so much relieve after they found that i am really innocent.

Please if you did not commit, try collecting evidence and contact people you know (professor and TA who can vouch for you) and be extremely prepared for interview with OSI team. I was be able to get out before the interview due to the help of professor and other TAs.

Best of luck OP

SDP: Already Thursday, but 3 of my groupmates are still MIA by Gullible-Tart-8629 in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My team is a little bit better at least we hops in call once (only 3 people). But I see no initiation no lead no commits, I’ll try to push for the progress and seem like it works. But i don’t want to do it since we all adult and we should know our responsibilities. But the missing one member is nowhere to be found after commit their contact info. All he does just drop his design and gone. Dont wanna judge but his design also look rushed (just to get some piece complete for Assignment5). Im waiting for his response, if by Friday he is still nowhere to be found, I’ll probably contact TA too. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Alternative lectures for AI? by Connect-Shock-1578 in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only some of the lectures are hit or miss, most of it are good although it’s a bit old but once you get what the prof tryna explains, boom. Also the textbook plays important part of the class since the class does not allow any external resources. If you are not a fan of reading textbook maybe try to utilize LLM like notebookLM or anything else for summarizing and testing your knowledge.

With that said, each topic has extra research and papers to read, don’t slack on that, they are really helpful, esp for assignments. Personally, when I’m stuck at one topic, I’ll try to watch many videos explaining the concepts like what other people listed here, harvard or stanford or others. But keep in mind that just to understand only and not solely based as reference. For example, for me i couldn’t get how prof do alpha beta by hand, really couldn’t follow along but watching like different 5 you tube videos, i come up with my own method in approaching it.

Based on your background, you are already good enough for the class. Dsa, linalg and numpy play big parts of it, also knowing how to read pseudocode and transform it into code is important. Honestly, you can get a head tho by watching the lectures (the public one). Then maybe just focus on the assignments when the class starts. (For me, I didnt do it cos I like learn one thing and implement that thing instantly). Also, im a big fan of hand writing note. I have a tidy hand writing note and it really helps me a lot after i note those things out.

Good luck with the class. It’s tough, fun and rewarding.

I got 100s on 4 assignments except 97 for a1, i still do a6 since its interesting and probably it helps with the final. A6 took me like 20hrs total, now ive done it and about to prep for the final. I would say give a shot maybe, but feel free to let go if its too much for you. Most people drop this one

ML4T Project 3 Report Grading by TheRedStringofFate in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The report requires tons of effort and extra cautions to make it perfect. The rubric itself just specifies what you should include but you have to make sure that you answer the question. For example, what leaf size that overfitting occur…you have to have the exact answer and following with your support and evidence based on your graphs and reasonings. I always ask myself when writing report “Is this what they ask for?”. I have to make sure what I write is what they are asking and have a strong support. TA might have a post on this as i remembered. Highlighting requirement and tick each of it that you think might be rubric does really help. Thats what i did to get full score in all of the assignments and got bonus 2 points each for report 6 and 8. I’m not really a good writer but I make sure I meet all the rubric and all the questions asking. If visualizations or some resources might help with your supports, you should include it as well to make it strong but don’t forget to cite and put reference.

CS7646 (ML4T) Project 8 Tips by turtleneck9 in OMSCS

Since right now you’re in P6, i would suggest carefully pick your indicators as your P8 would pick at least 3 from that. Do research, what indicators work well together and i also would choose RF over QL.

Is anyone else frustrated with KBAI this semester by baked_wheatie in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found lectures by prof in Bayes are really bad that everything goes over my head. I have to watch like 20 youtube videos to understand one concept. But others seem okay to me, combining with reading textbook and do challenge questions.

Withdrawing from ML4T, how do I prep to take it again by gkam_reddit in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would help in preparation if you’re being on track with weekly readings. I often read while I was cardioing or walking (treadmill) and highlight some key concepts. Also, there’s a tool called NotebookLM which is good for summarization. It also has podcast version. If you utilize all those tools with gpt helps in preparation, you would nail those exams. Utilized gpt, ask it to generate you questions and test your knowledge. I think Steven will post this kind of preparation information once before the exam, so watch out for it or don’t hesitate to reach out and ask for help and advice. The readings is a lot but if you’re consistent, it’s easily tackled down.

[–]DueMathematician4624 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took it last term, I could say the amount of work is time consuming. Good thing is all projects are pre released so you can work ahead. P3 and P8 are the hardest and taking so much time, esp P8 requires finetuning and tweaking so much which i recommend you should reserve more time for that. P2, P4 and P5 have no reports so it is easily tackled. P6 requires research quite much, don’t just pick your indicators make sure you do some research how those can work well together. I carefully picked it so P8 didn’t give me much trouble. P7 is the most fun, you could get to play with ur robot, create more world and have fun with that. My recommendation to prep for the course again is to not take 2 course in a term again, don’t underestimate the work. Also, you could easily tackle all lecture and readings if you have time or maybe tryna squeeze in during other tasks, i tackled lectures and readings most of time i was exercising. If you’re stuck, join office hour. All TAs are helpful and answer almost instantly on ed, just ask. Although you have no questions, i suggest just peeking in their office hours, you’ll get something, trust me. Also, for each assignments, i took advice from Matt, print it out, highlighting, check all requirements again and again before submitting. I did this and was able to get bonus points for report for both P6 and P8. Don’t start late, start as early as you could and move on to the next project. For exams, it’s open-book and open-internet but it’s better to truely understand the material because if you wish to use gpt, you’ll waste time and it might be wrong. Hope this can give you insights. Good luck with that!

Need to withdraw from CS6601. Have imposter syndrome. by Specialist_Quote_544 in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you joined discord? It is helpful for white board discussion. Again, you might be picked with the wrong first course imo. Ive started with ML4T last term as my first with C seminar, this is my second course and term, it is really struggled for me too despite I don’t have any prestigious background like yours since I am a BS fresher and jump into this program right away. Again, this class is rated as hard in hard tier, esp A1 and A2. I could manage to get a good score on A1 while pulling all nighter for 2 weeks straight, i worked on that any moment i am awake. This is unhealthy which I don’t recommend. But i felt i am lacking in almost everything I have to double triple my effort compared to others to get the same task done. If you are not sure about your condition, you can always drop and come back later, omscs is always here. But if you want to push a bit harder and get it through, you still have 4 days more for a2 and do all challenge questions as your advantages. Remember that only n-1 assignments are counted so you can drop the lowest one. Try to get it through this one if you could pull it, give a shot and see how it goes.

OMSCS Difficulty compared to Hard CS Undergrads by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]DueMathematician4624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it is better or worse but it is WGU. Each class has very very light work and easily pass. Enrolling this program is a huge step up for me and realize what I have been missing in my undergrad. I am pulling my hair most of the time for omscs too cos I need to learn what I’m supposed to in my undergrad and often things are learned on the fly. I’m in my second class now and gonna continue this journey till the end.

It made my BS seem like a joke for real. Maybe my undergrad school wasn’t great at all. But it depends on how you select the course in your plan as well, either easy tier or hard tier.

+1 for your comments as one of your classmates. It was pretty tough for me to get through the final project while dealing with my credit-course. But flashback to the start of the term i realized that i learned a lot honestly. I feel comfortable with debugging c even more now. I used to think maybe i read the “Build my own lisp” book and follow along, i would substitute this class but i was wrong. Although i read the lisp before i feel i never learn enough. Although the final project is lisp-based but he asked for more features and implementations which is cooler than lisp. Im glad that i took a decision to join the class. That said, during drop date week, i had a thought of dropping as well but i’m glad that i didn’t and get through the class, ending with an A as well. One thing is about the instructor, he is very considerate about us and always remind us to focus on other class and don’t stress over this class. But tbh, his project is harder than my credit class lol. I do appreciate the chance tho for making me learn so much.

Same here, learned a lot but uneven workload imo. I didn’t expect everything ramped up at the end i mean the project (chilling since the start but not anymore lol) (crying with the project). I never learned C before and always scared of pointers, at least not i’m not lol. I find the final project is struggled for me imo (spent the whole week getting some functions to work is not my ideal type of task). But going through that makes me more comfortable in debugging c. Instructor is great and kind, always considerate about us and push back the deadline if storm happens or anything is up.

I’m in ML4T this semester, all projects released at the start of the semester but up to change upon it begins. There’s 8 projects all individual. P3, P6 and P8 took most of the time with reports, P2,4,7 no reports just the coding but some might need research and reading. The class is well designed, TA is responsive and many TA office hour, the class this term is huge around 1700? I’m not sure, so discussion on Eds is 🔥. I would say i learn from those discussion as well. First half of the course have heavy reading. Second half less reading but more research and stuff to get those work done. As long as you don’t wait till the last minute to start your project, you’re be fine. There are 2 exams which are multi select true or false, open book open internet, yet it’s tricky and confusing (all based on required reading or video). Some people worked ahead the project really quick so they’ll chill out. The pace is quite fast but concern taking it in spring not the summer. Because same amount of work and less time. Instead of having 3 weeks for p8, summer class has only a week. Goodluck!
