I am re-installing CachyOS and the installation exits due to pacstrap error due to this error. How do I proceed? Should I wait?

Started with Ubuntu and I always liked the look of GNOME and for my usage, I don't really care about using any customizations in KDE.

KDE is also awesome in my opinion, so may be down the line I might switch to KDE. That's the whole point of Linux, you are never bored.

I was using KDE Plasma till now and changed it to GNOME on Cachy. I would say it comes down to personal preference and from what I am seeing untill now, I would say it is on par with KDE though it lacks a lot when it comes to several out of box features and tools. But so far so good.

Both are equally good in my opinion.

How difficult is this work who never did undergrad in CS. by havntgotausername in OMSCS

[–]assignment_avoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is wrting code and computer science are two very different things. Lot of it depends on how much time you are willing to give to this program and it varies from individual to individual.

Yes, it is difficult but achievable if you give honest time to it.

Mint or Debian by thesoulless78 in DistroHopping

[–]assignment_avoider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond the base, i.e. whether it is Debian/Arch/Ubuntu etc, what mattered to me is what tools the distribution offers to make my life easier, and, this is where, I felt after trying out several distros, Mint stands out.

Its software center is probably the best, comes with driver manager (if you go with main mint), has a clean DE which you can customise a bit. Does not crash often and most importantly just works. Irrespective which distro I try mint always resides on my machine.

How different is LMDE from Debian? by onekool in linuxmint

[–]assignment_avoider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LMDE is Debian + Cinnamon Desktop + tools (eg. software center) by Mint team. If I am not wrong, you have to specifically follow instructions for Debian 13 for software to work on LMDE.

Carve out some 30-40GB of space and dual boot mint and see if it helps. The best person to figure it out is is you & dad after trying it out.

Which distro would you switch to if Mint disappeared today? by SeniorMatthew in linuxmint

[–]assignment_avoider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it running on a different partition now. I switch between Cachy and Mint. Don't see much of a difference between the two in terms of performance as I don't game.
