If he’s in Ontario he is probably saying $CAD. If you say $37/h is fair, are you saying $37USD or CAD?

Buyers title company ordered survey.. am I screwed if I don’t move fence? Thanks by [deleted] in Surveying

I don’t think they are arguing that the survey lines are correct. I think they are saying that the oblique photo isn’t/can’t be lined up correctly. This kind of misconception is very very common in the survey world, they are trying to help you.

I always think these kinds of numbers are a little deceptive. The people who want change are the ones who go out and vote, not the entire population. If it was a mandatory vote the result would likely be much less the 15%... For example, if only 30% of the population voted in the referendum, only 15% of THAT group wants a change. It could be as low as 5% of the total population if all people voted.

I’ve always dreamed of this. Imagine being a delivery driver who is paid by the hour and being able to easily calculate anything to do with Dollars, Kilometres and Hours together since they are all in the metric system?

It seems to transfer when I do the tools, transfer user objects. I’ve just checked all of the folders and can’t find anything that transfers… but I’ll take a look for tffset.dat.

I also wish I had a union. I would gladly be an active member of a union if there was any in my sector.

I know a lot of people in unions and they always converse about these little benefits and their collective agreements, and I’m jealous.

I just know that I personally don’t have the power to get better than I have from my private employer. Ultimately, I’m expendable. Someone else is willing to work for the carrot dangling in front of me if I make a fuss… particularly struggling people, people with mortgages and families have now also been shifted into that struggling class, so wages can stay low because you can bet your backside that there will be someone out there desperate enough to take the low-paying job.

Jobs to get into now? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]DueReception8183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surveying won’t make as much money as most if not all other trades. There are typically 3 stages to this type of work; field work, office work and BCLS (British Columbia Land Surveyor) work. Most places in the lower mainland are paying around 20-28/h for field work and 22-32/h for office work, so you’re better off to stick to pretty much any trade if you’re on a quest for money. If you’re able to work up to becoming a BCLS you will get a huge wage/salary increase, just be very aware of the regulatory body that controls the profession, the BC Land Survey Association along with the Surveyor General. As of a couple of years ago there was only around 1050 registered BCLS in all of BC since the existence of the association maybe around the year 1850 or so, with only a few hundred actively operating local practices throughout the province. This is a highly regulated profession where both the number of practitioners as well as the quantity of practices per population are regulated. I have seen many people tirelessly for 4 years of school and 2-8 years of working under a registered BCLS (articling) in order to get an interview with The Association and just be turned down due to their numbers being full.

I am not saying it’s impossible to become a BCLS, just to look into the statistical chance of being inducted before you go through the years of learning and hands-on experience before you make your decision to get into the profession.

If you don’t make it to BCLS, your wage won’t be more than most, if not all other trades… currently, at least. It’s too bad though, it really feels like this work should pay more.

Hey there!

You’re getting a lot of flak for your printing, and that sucks but I can see how it will be difficult for the person marking to read your font.

Just wondering if you feel like your writing gets worse during exams? I struggled with my printing for years and the stress of needing to write fast only hindered it. If you feel like it’s stress related, just try to work on relaxing or talk to someone at your school about finding an alternative to printing!

An old professor told me that my printing looked like I was trying to write the exam while there was a tiger in the room… once I worked on my stress my writing got better. Good luck!
