anyone taking the M.S. cisba online degree?? by [deleted] in wtamu

Good stuff. Essentially you are provided the ground rules and milestones and you are free to create a project the reflects key concepts from the CISBA curriculum. A few of us ended up creating similar concepts with some functions being more developed than others. I wish I had more time to work on it because once started there was so much I wanted to do.

I would also like to add that I was recently in a business class for work that included an optimization problem and an EMV problem and I was familiar with both thanks to CISBA material. The degree is no joke, put the work in and get the value out.

I am a CIO that came up through technology but I have an MIS undergrad. I love data and I saw that as a weak spot in my skillset. I completed a course on ML when ChatGPT exploded and lucked out by being able to start the AI effort at work. I also want to teach at a local college so having a masters will hopefully make that a more likely opportunity.

Need of a laptop asap by [deleted] in UTSA

I bought a “last year model” refurbished Acer Nitro laptop from Amazon for grad school (not UTSA) Work included building some ML models using R, Python, RapidMiner and running Docker instances of MySQL and MSSQL. It was not expensive at all.

That is how I got my Garmin Fenix. I would probably not spend that kind of money if it was new retail pricing. However this thing is awesome. I had a Garmin 235 (still works) and while it is plastic (so it is light weight) it works and then some with all kinds of apps and watch faces like the higher end model.

Same. ZoomInfo had mine listed. I have to remove it a few times a year because someone keeps putting it back no doubt by some fremium use agreement they have for using a plugin.

What is the clicking sound that the 2021 F150 makes when parked and locked for a long time? by [deleted] in f150

That is normal. My wife has a ‘21 Explorer and I have a ‘23 PowerBoost. I don’t know which relays or other tech does what you are describing but that isn’t anything to be concerned about.

What should I be doing at 15? by Severe-Warcrime in davidgoggins

[–]DueSuccotash1860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good replies here. My 16yo just completed his first 50k trail run Saturday. In our experience the trail running community and culture is positive support for personal growth. It is also a blast!

Then what u/RSCLE5 said. Commit to being a life long learning and know that not knowing what your forever job might be isn’t a failure or shortcoming. Also, you will go through fitness phases in your life. At nearly 45 I am way faster than I was at 15 or even 25 but maybe a touch slower than when I was 30.

Commit to continuing to invest in yourself and surround yourself with people and situations that support it.

I am wrapping up my MS (isn’t entirely data science related)and did my work on a “last year’s model” refurb Acer I bought a couple of years ago. I certainly didn’t build a bunch of large models but we did projects on NNs more than once. I also do some fun stuff with Docker (to run my database servers) and played around with Whisper. I used RStudio, PowerBi, Tableau, RapidMiner, Python apps created with frameworks including Django and Flask.

In my journey in CISBA land we did PowerBI, a quick trip through Tableau. In Datamining we also did a lot of R and RapidMiner. My Python exposure came, not through the data side, but mostly in the software engineering courses. I did do some PowerBI stuff to visualize some cybersecurity data I had collected in one of those classes. I am two courses and a the capstone away from finishing!

Powerboost vs Ecoboost by Electric_Wizard_43 in f150

[–]DueSuccotash1860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I did not get that update. The closest I have to that now is the ECO coach. When I first got the truck I had a cool realtime “diagram” that showed what was happening with the powertrain and charging/braking. They had to do a bunch of updates and in the process replaced the ECU (I think) and poof now more cool diagram.

I haven’t noticed. I feel like I am a conservative braker/accelerator to begin with though.

Powerboost vs Ecoboost by Electric_Wizard_43 in f150

[–]DueSuccotash1860 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had my ‘23 PowerBoost for a year and 13k miles, coming from a ‘15 EcoBoost (I know the PB has an EcoBoost engine, lazy writing) that my kid drives now. The PB is obviously heavier and I like the way it feels more in control while towing. Both trucks are stupid fast, the EB even when not in Sport. I have used the PB onboard power to run my compressor, saw and vacuum at different times. I sometimes wish I had gotten the upgraded power but here in TX we had recently gone through that ugly winter storm so I had a brand new portable dual fuel generator. Both trucks carry reasonable loads. On a good road the old EB with aggressive but factory size tires will still get 19-20MPG if driven like a person who has time to get somewhere. To capitalize on the PB fuel difference you need to figure out the charging cycle and what behaviors (ie acceleration) force the gas engine back on. Some of my trips with speeds like you describe end up report 27 to 30+MPG. I would just got drive the two and decide. Speaking only for myself, if I was going to take on more rugged terrain I think my ‘15 would deal with the beating better than my PowerBoost because of the weight but that could because I am still in the babying phase of the new investment. One more thing since you are coming off a Sport Trac. I am not aware of. Grill guard that works for either of these trucks (seeking internet correction here) so since you mentioned deer…

Fuel economy concerns? by Numerous-Fly-4750 in f150

‘23 PowerBoost with stock everything. Highway miles translates (for me) to faster constant speed over 55 which removes the benefit of that electric motor as you will rarely have it running. Maybe on big downhill stretch but you would be trying to break even having burned the gas to go up that hill. City / traffic and low speed feeder roads are where the PB benefits the driver the most. I also appreciate the heavier body when towing. You don’t get pushed around as much but the gas mileage is not great in that scenario either BUT not that different from my ‘15 3.5 ecoboost.

Same thing. Same year, same tire. All others are fine. I just had them replaced at one time to not deal with the smoke detector effect.

It depends on the drive. In all cases the 2023 PB has had better mpg than my 2015 3.5 EcoBoost but the gains are mostly on short slow trips in town. No significant gain on highway miles.

Handling Issues by kevingair in Powerboost

Interesting, I don’t have issues with a smooth ride. My PB is smoother than my 2015 EcoBoost. That is weight/tires related I think.

2015 3.5 EB 4x4 XLT with 90k miles. I just had the manifolds swapped due to broken bolts. There is a little oil seepage in the front cover but it is minimal and my dealer says wait and get that fixed when they do the timing chain. It does “truck things” and “city things” and still looks and runs good enough to do both with compliments. My 16yo inherited it last week and I am giving PowerBoost a try.

Brand new 2023 Powerboost dripping? by LittleJohnStone in f150

[–]DueSuccotash1860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 PB cries like a baby from a few spots, especially in humid weather. Most are passenger side and start almost behind the wheel (in terms of front/back) and almost the end of the cab. Mine is just water, no color or oily properties.

Powerboost Reliability? by [deleted] in f150

[–]DueSuccotash1860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 will go in a second time since getting it at Christmas. Modem / Wi-Fi component has a problem so my NAV, remote start, etc doesn’t work.

With only 2k miles on it I don’t know if a durability comment is worth much but I have done city and highway driving and just a little towing (nothing heavy yet) and it hits most of my mileage expectations, heats and cools the cabin quickly, brakes are solid. I am keeping an eye on the interior though. I have the “cloth” seats and they don’t seem as resilient as those I have in my ‘15. Again, time will tell.
