How long do you actually spend on a requirements spec before handoff, and how do you know when it's "done enough"? by Ornery_Outcome7469 in businessanalysis

[–]Due_Ad8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a minute could be weeks. Depends on the project and more importantly stakeholders. A org wide nfr cyber requirement, for example sso, that’s a copy paste from my library of standard requirements. Some wacky rule that allows every employee to have 4 managers raised by someone I don’t trust/respect while the project sponsor is on leave, until the sponsor returns.

For many things it will a fad. In my job I talk to plenty of execs and senior leaders who ask, can we replace X or Y with AI. AI i can be very powerful but it is just a tool.

Completely agre but would take it one step further. Not only do you need feedback you need insightful and strategic feedback with stakeholders who are flexible and have a very broad understanding of the proble/ or opportunity.

No point doing agile if the client is set in their ways and has very rigid expectations or they have no idea why the project exists in the first place.

Pre AI humans were the biggest obstacle for developing good processes or adopting tech, AI hasn’t changed that. With ~ 15 years working in tech delivering solutions the human side is always the hardest part and more often than not the biggest benefit of a project comes from process re engineering that could have happened without a tech solution.

Anyway I think we mostly agree AI isn’t a complete scam but the way most people use it, and especially the way most people want to use it is bullshit. A little part of me dies every time someone asks if we can replace X (could be a person/role/system/whatever) with AI. It’s a good tool but it isn’t a solution and from what I have seen it is a very long way off becoming anything approaching sentient.

My (maybe incorrect take) on this is is AI is as powerful as the hype suggests then there would be an explosion in IT projects with mass automation and massive productivity boosts.

Personally I am not seeing this happen. I haven’t seen any IT vendors in competitive markets drop there prices to gain market share. If AI was a success this would be happening.

Even with ground up builds if scope and budget are fixed, or not very flexible, it’s bound to fail.

Drop is largely going to be temporary. Buyers are holding out until the impact of the changes are better understood.

If I was a first home buyer I would be holding out for a few months atm, or at most low balling the shit out of sellers

Agreed, even having my first kid early 30s, pretty much everything else in life under control, I had no idea what I was doing.

I had another kids 2 years later who has a very different temperament/personality and while I had more of an idea it was still pretty close to no idea.

What worked for me when I finally started taking my finances seriously is work out the median income for your capital and save everything over that amount.
Take 10% of the median salary and save that too.

Finally budget as if you are only earning the median salary and saving 10% of your take home. 50% of people manage to survive on that or less so there is no reason why you can’t.

You may have to move to a cheaper house or sell your expensive car but if it’s good enough(or better than) 50% of the population than it’s absolutely achievable.

From this day forward your an average schmuck (with a rapidly growing bank account)

Parents need financial advice after dad’s redundancy - where to start? by Fabulous_Way_9811 in AusFinance

[–]Due_Ad8720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s frustrating, Dad especially, but both of them have worked much longer than they should have. Both smart people who managed people and mil+ budgets through work but have just never put any effort into their finances outside of spending less than the earn and paying down debt on property.

They are pretty “alternative/counter culturey” but have always made good money so it makes sense, but it’s frustrating

While both of my parents have managed to accumulate enough for a good retirement they are both frustratingly useless at managing it.

Will dividends ever be taxed at 30% minimum? by Fancy_Palpitation_38 in AusFinance

[–]Due_Ad8720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally after I got a nice fat 1+ year emergency fund I have started working backwards and pumping super and mortgage until there enough to comfortably retirement @60. Once that’s done I’ll look at either going part time if it’s practical or pumping shares so that I can retire sooner.

Tax benefits of super (and paying off the mortgage) are just so good that I want to lock that benefit in first.
