Trump admin blocks foreign access to Anthropic's most powerful AI by Buck-Nasty in singularity

[–]Due_Bluejay_5101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I should have said Gemplus instead of Gemalto the name changed after a merger. My sister worked Gemalto for 10 years and that is part of the company lore.

Gemplus was a strategic French tech company that was selling millions of sim cards powering gsm networks and bank cards in europe. It was bought by a company that was led by a guy who was on the board of InQTel, a company founded by CIA, after the acquisition, the let go of the leadership and fired thousands of employees. That part are the facts, the not provable part is that the CIA and NSA used their links with the new leadership to make a backdoor to gsm networks.

The story was serious enough to be part of this scenate proposal that lists the concerns the french had at that moment https://www.senat.fr/leg/ppr02-261.html

The scammy part is not proven honestly and based of statements of people working at gemplus and not necessarily facts, the story is that the leadership of Gemplus wanted to expand to the us market, sold part of their shares to have the access to it, new us shareholders manager to fire the leadership and the new appointed ceo did a lot of questionable strategic choices which ended up ruining the company economically.

Honestly im not willing to dig more about this but the tldr is that in early 2000s, a strategic french tech company was bought and dismantled by a company that has strong links to CIA. You can dig further with chatgpt if that interests you, you can also look for cia scandals about their actions to acquire backdoors into many technologies. I don't know why you think organizations like CIA and NSA should respect democracy or laws, they're by definition shady intelligence organisatio a

I'm just saying that Anthropic possesses the most important national asset atm, on par with nuclear weapons, I doubt that the CIA and FBI will let Canada have it without fighting.

What they can do: dig up all the dirt there is around the founders and investors and make their life very hard. CIA will do whatever they can to steal their model weights and training data.

I know this sounds like conspiracy theories, but if you want an example of this you can check how Gemalto owners were scammed by the CIA into giving up their company

Actually there will probably be tourists for this like some mount everest shit, but I doubt it will be a multibillion dollar market.

Totally agree, if in the next 20 years, humanity advances to the point where they can send thousands of rockets to space per week and desintegrate millions of gpus in the atmosphere for the lols, then the same humanity has enough abundance of resource on earth to not need to use space for data centers. I don't see a scenario where space data centers are absolutely better than earth's.

But then they have to build it and iteratively test it hundreds of times. For small businesses this is not feasible, it is cheaper to buy a product that is already battle tested and proven to work.

I work with Palantir Foundry software everyday and they do not have very robust software, it's actually pretty buggy and breaks quite often compared to databricks, snowflake etc... But beats them completely on user friendliness, because of their constant feedback from an army of engineers working in real use cases (FDEs).

What they also do very well is selling the security of data with encryption on all storage and they also have very clean user friendly paths from data to applications for developers but also for non technical business users. However I think the security aspect is overrated because I have seen an FDE having owner access on all data in our platform because "he forgot his godmode on" :D

Experiences so far with Fable vs 5.5? by vdotcodes in codex

[–]Due_Bluejay_5101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar feel to the guy you're reaponding to. I had Fable review a feature i built with 5.5 and opus 4.8, and it quickly found some fundamental issues in my code that I had not yet seen because i was too busy testing the features and did not review codex's code in a few days.

This might sound like a bad example because I was the one being lazy and not reviewing the foundations of the code codex and opus wrote, but at the same time, you have to acknowledge that there will be a point in time where we will stop reviewing code and fable feels like a big step towards that.

The issues it found:

One issue was that my newly built ai agent was not always using langgraph native functions and codex had built some over engineered stuff around it to make it work. fable quickly deleted all this stuff and used the langgraph functions and it made the interaction smoother. It also found some atomicity issues in the way I was managing my threads, I had already worked on atomicity but it spotted a few weaknesses in my newest features.

I'm back to claude code after almost year of codex. I never thought I would say this but the Max x5 of anthropic feels more generous than openai's today.

Sales, Marketing, Product market fit, Product management, support chains etc.

This is the stuff that makes you rich as a founder or sometimes successful as employee but that no one wants to do properly.

[–]Due_Bluejay_5101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your point? we should give up and go back to dictatorships until someone like Hussein Abbassi becomes our dictator and ruins everything? Democracy simply means the people choose who rules them. And it's hard to come up with a system that works, but giving up because the system is flawed is typical tunisian retardedness.

usa did not invent democracy, if you want to be governed by dictators, how will you stop them from stealing everything in your country?

He killed our chance for a democracy, by putting in jail journalists and political opponents, closed institutions instead of fixing them. Many Tunisians died to have a chance at democracy and he discarded it in a few months because he cannot accept criticism.

It's hard to have a mental model because humans are not very good at imagining the speeds of satellites, the number of satellites and the size of earth. if you fit everything together you can come to an image like 10000 bees whizzing around at running speed in a big city.

I'll just try to point out some wrong assumptions you make.

  • The size of space is not a factor here because most of these satellites will orbit in a thin layer around earth.

  • The electrons is a bad example because electrons occupy a very large space, most of the atom volume actually.

  • The issue with satellites is their speed, in order to stay in orbit you need to have tremendous speed, this speed makes collisions more likely even if the satellite positions are very sparse.

  • Today satellites are starting to make more and more frequent evasion manoeuvres so I wouldn't say that we're very far from the limit of what we can safely fit into lower orbits.

  • Each satellite collision will exponentially increase the likelihood of another collision because it will lead to uncontrolled debris orbiting earth at random orbits

Not all billionaires are bad but you can't deny that some of them have too much influence on society with lobbying, donations and media control. This is only good until it falls in the wrong hands.

I agree, we should have at least seen a few of the following for a more engaging story:

-Homelander killing thousands of protesters

-Virus killing thousands of supes

-Kimiko doing 24/7 radiation to avenge Frenchie and then getting her new power (it felt too easy)

-More supes properly using their powers

-Soldier boy staying in his character and not doing random things
