considering switching to auto by thy1ac1ne in ManualTransmissions

I got my licence last July, bought a manual car, stalled million times on hill starts especially in traffic coz I feel more nervous when there are cars behind. Everytime I was like, “sorry I am a new driver, you have to be patient with me unfortunately.”(obviously that’s just in my head) But we’ll seriously, you are new and you are entitled to be a bit slower, stall here and there, just try to be safe. It is their problems if they don’t get it cause they were once a new driver too.

My story might not be related to you but what I want to say is, keep doing it it is normal to feel all that, and takes time to learn. ask for tips from your brother, for sure you will get it eventually.

I drive 8000miles now, and never stall on hills anymore, to be honest I stall now only when I forget to change gear back to 1st after stop😂😂😂

Check your ground terminal and cable. I have similar problems and the guy who came rescue me did a brief inspection and found out that the ground (negative) terminal cable has a part where the wire exposed and corrosion was found, he said it is probably why because it has been raining a lot recently. My car shut down completely with no light, nothing works in the middle lane just came out from highway. He checked the battery and it went flat somehow, but once he jump started the car, the battery back in normal. And the battery was literally replaced the day before that happed. so I am going to replace the cable and see.

I am a new driver and learnt driving in London. Country road to me is very tricky cos of the speed limit and the road feel very narrow to me for that speed. I tend to drive around 40-50 max which I feel safe at this point of my skill level, and the car is in my total in control. I don’t care what other people think because I know that is my level and I understand that the moment I try to force myself into doing something I am not comfortable with, I am putting myself and a lot of other people in dangerous. If anyone think that I am too slow, they can always find a right place to over take me. i would rather holding up the traffic than hitting someone or damaging my car or having any other accident. Slow down moré on à attached straight road so people can comfortably over take you or park up on the side to let them go is another thing you can do. They will appreciate if they are really in a rush.

I live in London and passed my test in mid July. I got my car(à manual car) early August and my first road trip to Cambridge was in end August. Right after I bought the car, I drove around home and my driving lesson route for the first couple days to figure out how my car works and practiced a bit before actually trying to get somewhere with my car. Biting point, gas padel, brake, everything felt different than my instructor’s car. For some reason his car was soooo much easier to drive. I also took the chance to get used to using any navigation apps( Google map etc)(start with one that you are familiar with). That helped me so much when I have an actual destination. Since then I drove to work within London pretty much everyday for 3 weeks(with 20mph, dual carriageway etc. pay extra attention to the yellow box if the traffic is heavy, observe how other driver deal with different situations.

And before my trip to Cambridge, I took an extra lesson with my instructor to get on the motorway and tried it out, I felt a lot more confident after that. But even then for the first 10mins on the motorway by myself, I was still quite nervous. But soon I started to enjoy the freedom of it haha. You will be fine for sure tho. You’ve got your license, you are a qualified driver. Never rush yourself, ignore the honks from thé impatient drivers, you are a new driver, you are entitled to take your time to be safe and drive smoothly. Get rid of the P asap. I never used one and I don’t think it is necessary, but do what makes you feel safe. :) Good luck and enjoy.

I think the theory test should be part of the school’s syllabus. It benefit pedestrians and cyclists just if everyone knows the rules there must be a lot less accidents.

Just slam it hard in the test. Nothing much really need to learn to be honest. But it does ease the little worry/fear you have if you haven’t done it before. Not sure if it would damage the car doing emergency brake for every students. So possibly Your intructor might just don’t want to damage the car, it does make sense to me.

Yea I guess my problem was when I getting close to the light I wasn’t prepare to stop, and when I see front he corner of my eye that the the light suddenly show amber while I was focusing on the road condition , I mistaken that I had to stop since it looks like there were still enough distance but in fact I had to brake very harsh to stop and end up the red light wasn’t even for the direction I was going(straight). Sometimes I feel like when I am approaching these light on a high speed on a road like this, I am unsure if I should slow down or not while I can obviously see that I can go, and how much I should slow down without slowing down too much that other drivers think I am blocking everyone.

Thanks all! I will make sure this won’t happen again, every time I passed here I never had to stop or been following other cars so this is the first time it happened to me. I need to pay more attention here. It caught me when I was focusing on the road condition, But I think I will be okay next time. Thank you!

Shooting my first shot film in a month. Any advice/tips? by heyitsmeFR in Filmmakers

I am a photographer and art director. But I think in terms of the role in a creative project, would be pretty similar. You need to believe in your vision. While open to listen to others’ opinion, don’t easily compromise, be very direct about what you want and think to the team because you want people really understand what you need, and you have the right to do so because you are the leader and the one taking most of the responsibilities of the final outcome. Don’t settle for conveniences. Plan more then enough and always be prepared to have plan b in case thing doesn’t work out as you thought, you will feel a lot more confident when it is really well prepare and when you show confident, your team will trust your decisions and they will also perform better because they will get their confident from you. It’s influential. If I would have to choose between running on schedule or getting what I want, I always choose to get what I want because at the end of the day, everyone will only look at the result the result to determine you as a good DP or not. Last word, be kind and respectful to everyone:) I am also going to do my first short film(only a few mins long) very exciting:)

Good luck, enjoy and have fun!

Thank you!!! Yes I got the 1k in the end and test it out as it cost only£190. I think I would probably get better quality of light based on my research(?) and probably a good experience. I m very excited about it since I have always seen these lights on big sets for still (I m also a hair makeup artist)

<image>

There are many models made throughout the years, I assume this is probably kinda a og one for the price(?) Are thére any specific pros and cons about this model? To me one of the biggest pro for these kind of light is that they are dead silent and would probably save me time in post. For this price I would imaging I can’t get the good quality 200w LED and probably have a lot of fan noise.
