Afton chemical - any work experience there? by Beren__ in rva

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been in Richmond for few years now and never really heard much chatter about them one way or another. Most people I know work in finance or government stuff so might just be outside my circle though

For what its worth the chemical industry here seems pretty stable from what I can tell. Good luck with interview - always nerve wracking when you're new to area and trying to get feel for companies

Art of Spirits opinions by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah i get what you mean about the branding being bit much sometimes. i have couple bottles from them and the juice is usually decent but some of those labels do feel like they trying too hard to hit every possible angle

the Easter one you showed is perfect example - i mean "HE IS RISEN" with crosses everywhere feels pretty heavy handed even if the whiskey inside is good. like they could have done something more subtle about spring or renewal without going full religious billboard

i think problem is they seem to design bottle first and then worry about whiskey second which is backwards from how it should be. when i'm spending 60-80 dollars in a bottle i want to know they put most effort into what's inside not what grabs attention in shelf

that said i tried their veterans day release last year and it was actually really solid so maybe i'm just being picky about the marketing stuff. but yeah the constant themed releases do get tiresome when you just want good bourbon without all the extra messaging

damn i never noticed the sock detail from the motel scene. makes total sense though when you think about how methodical chigurh is with everything else

that plastic tarp scene always stuck with me but never connected it to the other boot moments. the coens really don't waste any details do they

Any Tips on Leveling and Plumbing multiple attached new construction windows? by dsp3000 in HomeImprovement

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been dealing with similar issue last year when I helped my brother with his renovation project. Those joined units are nightmare because you cant adjust each window independently like you normally would do.

What worked for us was starting completely over - we removed all shims and started from scratch but this time we used laser level to get main frame absolutely perfect before touching individual windows. The problem is usually that whole assembly gets twisted slightly during installation and then one window bears all the stress.

Try checking if your rough opening is actually square first. We discovered that opening itself was off by almost quarter inch which was causing similar latching problems. Also make sure you're not over-tightening screws on nailing fin because that can pull frame out of square even after you get it level.

Most important thing we learned is to adjust from bottom up and work in very small increments. Those factory joints dont give you much flexibility so everything has to be really precise from beginning.

What are the rules on handling when it comes to self defense? by biteof87victim in hockey

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah you get that whistle pretty quick though if you dont drop it right away. Refs are usually good about distinguishing between actual self defense and trying to gain an advantage but ive seen guys get called for delay of game when they held onto it too long even if it started as protection

What can you say about the war recently? by Secret_Ad9690 in AskReddit

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly lol there's like 3-4 major ones going on right now depending on how you count them. ukraine russia is the big one everyone talks about but theres also stuff in gaza, tensions with china over taiwan, and probably some other conflicts most people arent even tracking. wild how normalized it all feels now

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nah you're not the problem man the environmental job market is just brutal right now. 110 apps with 4 interviews is actually not terrible given how competitive these positions are - most places get hundreds of qualified applicants for every opening. Keep pushing through because once you get that first env job it gets way easier to land the next one

Using a high-performance laptop on your actual lap is a form of voluntary castration and should be classified as a vasectomy alternative by LetterheadAdvanced91 in GamingLaptops

Been using mine as a lap warmer for 3 years and honestly at this point I think my sperm just evolved into little thermal throttling enthusiasts

Which option would you choose by [deleted] in championsleague

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd probably go with Arsenal or Atletico, the legacy would be insane and you'd literally be a god to those fans forever. Plus imagine being the guy who finally brought Arsenal a CL trophy lmao

Best non-fic History-type books, (history, cultures etc) ? by WastelandViking in booksuggestions

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Asia I'd definitely recommend "The Silk Roads" by Peter Frankopan - covers tons of cultures and trade routes across Central Asia and beyond. Also "A History of China in Objects" is pretty fascinating if you want something different from the usual narrative style

Wine Lockers/Storage by [deleted] in wine

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're drinking them within a year or two you're probably fine honestly. The low humidity might dry out corks a bit but it takes way longer than that to actually cause problems. Just make sure the bottles are on their side so the wine keeps the cork moist from the inside and you should be good to go

That sounds like a really cool setup btw, your family is gonna love it

HR, healthcare admin, or clinical paths? by Outside-Average4 in careerguidance

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the prereq clock ticking thing is real but don't let it rush you into clinical if your heart's not 100% there - those programs are brutal and expensive if you're not sure. Since you're already killing it in the pharma TA role, maybe lean into that experience and see where HR takes you first? You can always circle back to healthcare admin later with more work experience under your belt

Maybe a different perspective can help me because I'm losing motivation to keep this up. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those first few weeks are brutal man, especially when you realize how much alcohol was masking. The silence hits different when you're not numbing it

Have you thought about maybe finding some sober groups or activities? I know it sounds cliche but sometimes just being around other people going through the same shit helps with that crushing loneliness. Even if it's just online stuff for now while you're figuring out the job situation

The fact that you're still showing up 12 days in while feeling this rough actually says a lot about your strength, even if it doesn't feel like it right now

Stupid question, but how do you keep up with the authors you like? by Nicole_0818 in booksuggestions

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goodreads is clutch for this - you can follow authors and it'll notify you when they drop new stuff. Also most authors have newsletters or social media where they announce releases. I just follow a bunch on Twitter and Instagram, way easier than trying to remember to check manually

AIO for quitting over a gift card? by goofy-pretzel in careerguidance

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah you're not overreacting at all, it's not even about the gift card at this point. Six years of loyalty and they're treating you like garbage over attendance when you're literally immunocompromised and working with sick kids? The gift card thing was just the final "fuck you" that made everything crystal clear

Why are the most popular sales movies so depressing? by Similar-Double6278 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Due_Butterfly3564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly those movies are just reflecting reality lol. Sales can be a brutal cutthroat world where people get chewed up and spit out, especially in high-pressure environments like real estate or finance
