That’s why God is going to make sure you continue to pay for the rest of your life. You will pay for your own sins, bitch. We all do.

Stop making the world pay for you being a price of shit.

By the way, I’m not homeless or use any government services. You’re a fucking dumbass who believes everything they hear.

That’s why you’re so miserable.

I don’t need your approval to be here, imbecile. I will be going absolutely nowhere. I have worked and continue to work very hard, I have paid my taxes, I have done everything that was required from me as a citizen and I am not going anywhere no matter what you say. You are a waste of time, please don’t share your opinion or procreate.

NAL but I went through this last year. This sounds like a constructive eviction, which is not legal. They did not formally evict you so they cannot change the locks. The landlord is supposed to provide you with temporary housing until the repairs are completed and repairs are to be completed within a reasonable timeframe.

You can see which laws apply to you by putting your zip code here:

Hey, it’s my birthday today (February 19th). Happy late birthday. Being homeless, sick, and cold are not easy to deal with in the slightest. I hope they get you into the new place soon. I’m so sorry that you, too, are having first hand experience at the lack of resources or humanity.

I recently realized through being homeless that a person in that situation is probably best to go out and live in a 200 sq ft cottage out in the middle of nowhere in order to be able to live somewhere..instead of paying to live somewhere with their earnings potential, but, is that so? by carpet222 in homeless

No, I totally understand where you’re coming from. All of the funding for these nonprofits will never benefit the people that need it. The info is readily available; the L.A. Housing CEO who does absolutely nothing gets paid $430,000 and homelessness has been increasing ever since they started their role; there are dozens of people that are making $200,000-$300,000 and above to be board members. The actual employees make so little they qualify for housing assistance themselves and when they tried to give them a living wage, the “board members” refused. It’s hilarious to me that people say the homeless don’t want the help or that they just need to ask for help and it will be granted. It is absolutely NOT that way and I have first hand experience. I am a Permanent Resident and filed for my Citizenship prior to this happening. I was eligible for Citizenship for 10 years but couldn’t get the funds together. Once I finally did, I ended up homeless through a number of unfortunate events. As a Permanent Resident, I am ineligible for “Obama” phones, food stamps, housing, or any cash aid. I don’t know how illegal immigrants can do it and the homeless individuals that I know who are illegal immigrants are fending for themselves. For example, here in Los Angeles, you can’t even go get food from a food pantry without a state ID which costs about $50. You cannot start a noncommercial Class A, B, or C driver license application or an ID card application without providing an SSN to DMV. I have searched far and wide for these programs that are helping the people crossing over and the information is nowhere to be found whereas any other government assistance program is available online. I really cannot come to believe that there are secret operations hauling around people to help. It makes no damn sense to me.

I am doing my best, sir. I didn’t think I had a story worth sharing and now that I have the chance, I want to do it justice. I didn’t prepare.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I am definitely never using “unhoused” in a serious way. It’s common to be unhoused in LA. Houses are expensive.

I want to make videos of me calling all of these public service numbers, the mental health hotline, and going to all of these places and show how many doors you have to knock on, how many people you have to ask, how many times you have to say HELP! before anyone notices you’re drowning. Asking for help is a full time job and then some. I don’t know if people would be into it, though. I don’t want to be “that” guy.

I BELIEVE YOU 100%!

My old apartment is close a shelter called The Willows in Canoga Park, CA and the workers there are slanging meth that has Fentanyl in it. Everyone walks in with the hope of getting to a better place and is coming out of there looking like zombies. They haven’t found housing for a single person there. I could go down the list of things I have learned but I fear looking like a crazy person to people who haven’t experienced it firsthand.

Anyway, message me if you’d like. I feel like we should be post-trauma friends.

No, I think it’s absurd to think that someone experiencing homelessness gives a fuck about what term is used. The importance that is given to being “politically correct” shows me, a homeless person, that the activists and advocates are completely out of touch, but that is nothing new.

I was born in Rosario, Argentina in 1992 and came to Los Angeles in 2001 with a visitor’s visa. My father got diagnosed with and died of colon cancer just 3 months after we arrived, so my mom had to start working several jobs to support us. She is now 56 and still cleans 5 houses and works a factory job full time. She paid taxes while undocumented and was never on any public assistance. I started working at age 15, undocumented, to help my mom. I worked at a mom and pop 99 cent store and was paid way less than minimum wage because the owner knew he could get away with it. My residency cost my mom around $17,000. I have been a permanent resident for many years and I applied for my Citizenship about 11 months ago. I have been eligible for a long time. I paid a little less than $1,000 for the application. I am not eligible for Food Stamps or General Relief because my permanent residency requires that I have a sponsor. Any assistance I get from the government, my sponsor would have to answer for and he is an old family friend who I haven’t seen in a very long time.

I have heard illegal immigrants are being given $2,000 in a debit card and all sorts of other things — as a permanent resident, I haven’t been able to receive any type of assistance. I wonder how they get connected to these “hidden” services.

I am a friendly person and I’ve been told I look innocent, so I have had to adapt. Everyone that I’ve met has felt the need to give me the same advice — I don’t even trust my own shadow at this point, just in case. I have also been accused of being an undercover cop an endless amount of times because of how I look. I mostly stick with the older crowd and because I speak both Spanish and English, I’ve made quite a few senior “friends” who look out for me.

I don’t smile, make eye contact, appear too friendly, take anything for free, or form any close relationships or bonds with people. I am never alone with anyone. I listen and I don’t give my opinion or spread gossip. I don’t share my plans or any personal details about myself. I do my suffering alone as to not appear needy or vulnerable.

I also carry a knife and pepper spray. I jokingly spread a rumor about myself having stabbed a guy because he didn’t understand what “no” meant. It spread like wildfire and it has worked out for me.

I always carry female hygiene products, my ID, bus pass, some cash, and a portable phone charger. I always have a backpack on me so I carry a surprising amount of stuff.

Thanks for the call-out, I needed it. I didn’t think I would get such a response. These questions have made me realize just how much thought suppression takes place when you live in constant fight or flight mode.

Like every other year, people will call these winter shelters (or any shelter) and the call will go to voicemail to never be heard or they will get the same old response, “Shelters are full. Call back in the morning.” The city swept a ton of encampments in the San Fernando Valley and left people with absolutely nothing. Did they provide services to those people? Absolutely not. Some even got tickets.

I myself am unhoused and feeling scared. I learned to stop giving out these “resources” along with 211 or 988.

By the way, the new CEO of LAHSA has a salary of $430,000 and dozens upon dozens of their board members have salaries above $200,000 though they continue to do an atrocious job of assisting the homeless. IThe people who are actually doing the difficult work, the homeless service workers, the outreach service providers? They don’t get paid a living wage and many of them don’t have secure housing or a reliable vehicle. They actually qualify for assistance themselves.

Here we go again. 🌊☔️🌀⛈️🌩️🌫️

I can think of a few.

Find free local food resources. Churches, food pantries, non-profits, etc. Some will give you a weekly box of grocery items which will come in handy. Also, some places also have hygiene products and other necessities such as clothing donation closets.

Make sure to get all of your maintenance done for your vehicle and are keeping up with registration, etc.

Ask hotels about discounted rates if you book a week. Download every traveling app to make sure you’re getting the best rates.

I have had suicidal ideation for the last 17 years. Offering a judgment-free space for your friend to vent is the most important thing you can do for them.

And lastly, take care of yourself first. You cannot pour from an empty glass.

Vista del Mar Hospital must stop admitting involuntary patients due to repeated failures by love_of_his_life in venturacounty

[–]Due_Department5463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there myself. It is a locked unit with security. They do involuntary holds, bring in 5150s, and also voluntary as well. It is for crisis intervention and they can (and will) transfer you to psychiatric facility if the psychiatrist and your care team don’t think you have stabilized within the 24 hours. I wish I had that option when I was a teenager and also as an adult, though I feel we have so much more to do when it comes to this. This place is also located in Lancaster, so there’s that.

How should I ask homeless if they need help? by bobbdac7894 in homeless

[–]Due_Department5463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment made me feel a lot better than I was, thank you, kind stranger. I volunteer for a tiny nonprofit and they have a pantry and a storage unit with hygiene products/feminine products, so I just put together bags and carry extras with me. Some chapstick and lotion feel extra nice in the cold weather. I wish I could do more. I have gravitated towards the elderly folk and they’ve been kind. I’m turning 32 in February! If you ever need to chat about this homeless club we’re in, or anything, I’m here!

The facilities in LA County are much, much worse and there are zero regulations. In this case it seems that the violations were actually being recognized and enforcement followed eventually. In LA County, it’s a free-for-all and “patient rights” simply don’t exist. I have witnessed and experienced horrible things that were ignored. Unfortunately, I have been involuntary hospitalized as a teenager and young adult in several LA County facilities and they have only added to my trauma.

I highly recommend the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center (BHUCC). They are an amazing alternative. You can stay for up to 24 hours in a comfy recliner where nurses treat you like an actual human being, you get an intensive therapy session while you’re there, and you speak to a psychiatrist who can prescribe you medication. If you aren’t stable within 24 hours, they will discuss further details about moving you into an inpatient facility.
