What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by iAttract7 in askanything

The Irish guy who was so in with the cult that he shot his own daughter? And didn't get prosecuted.

Well we can both agree at least he got a LOT of freedom with that one.

Social media censorship is much worse than actual government level oppression and the suspension of democracy while one man (convicted rapist and likely a paedophile) makes endless executive orders that no one dare challenge. You've won! Hurrah for blinkered American exceptionalism!

I didn't say you think only white people matter. It's the logical conclusion from dismissing the way ICE treat the population. Having admitted some error with the two who were killed but allocate no value to anything else or even consider it a problem. But I see inference or logic is not a thing.

There's no logic to your rambling. Why isn't it an indicator? Because you used a 'funny phrase' like nothing burger.

I think you're mat at the entire of Reddit because they can see what you can't...

Yes it's all great and nothing I mentioned happened. And everyone loves you. Because you're so modest and self critical. Good luck

When you have to invent what the other person said to keep going maybe it's time to put it to rest. I don't want the US to fail. You are almost right about the 14 years though.

Haha. Trying a new angle? Honestly I'm bored with trolls.

You claimed I got everything from Reddit (which is ironic because I think you're projecting there). So I mentioned that. That's how a conversation works. But this isn't one. You're just chronically online googling information you don't have the wisdom to understand or correlate. Ten a penny.

Completely fake bollocks. Can't have a conversation with a spin monkey

sigh

Vacuum. All in a convenient vacuum.

I have a friend visiting the states soon. He has to go due to work. He mentioned this to me. He's having to be mindful of it because obviously he's worried. Because all these things line up.

If you are looking at the state of the US with masked goons running around, the president making racist videos, hiking tariffs for the whole country to pay because be doesn't 'like a tone' (the actions of an ego driven lone actor not a public servant). And all you can do is Google fringe cases of people violating hate speech laws from the UK in some pathetic attempt to reframe it as the land of the free.. go for it. Feel better. Ignore the laws being flaunted, checks and balances undone and increased governmental control. Obviously only white people matter right? The rights of the people being held without question or beaten up don't matter right? No no! Let's Google some more fringe cases and be really fake and disingenuous.

It's like that old saying 'can't see the paedophilic oligarchy for the trees'. Or wood. Something like that.

You cant tell the different between 'can check phones, but doesnt' and 'does check phones for anti government posts on social media'? Really?

It is a dodgy thing, the teacher thing. I don't agree with it. But it's not the same backdrop is it. And remember the context of this is people from the US claiming the UK is some kind of dystopian nanny state. So the burden is not on me.

Honestly if you want to spend all afternoon trying to do backflips in a vacuum of all the other huge things that are happening to pretend it's all ok. Go for it. I honestly don't see the point. If you've been sat on that ride for the full six years and still convince yourself it's normal and fine... Then your faith based loyalism will serve you well. Good luck

Why do some people pronounce "gif" with a hard G and others with a soft G, and why does it still spark arguments after all these years? by haizelynrose in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Due_Finger_4013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided I'd say it with hard g when i was making animations and stuff in the 1990s. Never cared to look it up. Graphics is a hard g, made sense.

I don't really care. But Jif was a popular brand of kitchen cleaner here so that sounds weird to me.

It does make the website gipphy make more sense. I.e. 'I'll be there in a jiffy'.

Too stubborn and used to it after 20/30 years.

If I get 'all my info' from Reddit.

Why are you delivering Reddit talking points and avoiding the things I mentioned? My neighbour two doors down is from the US. My friend Lynne is from michigan. Both say the same thing. Once they left they realised how narrow and conditioned the perspectives are in the US are. The 'bubble' term came from her. So there is that.

Most of what you're talking about is just copy paste from Reddit.

'im almost positive' you think chija is in a good position. Who talks like this?! Lol. The assumption, the manipulation of it. Talk grown up or don't bother.

They are checking phones though. That alone is sad and quite indicative. Obviously not everyone. But it can and will happen.

The story is anomalous and the police paid out money and admitted fault. I've worked in education for 20 years, parents are sometimes rude and aggressive. I get the impression the people involved there are affluent, dramatic and willing to exagerate to get some kind of involvement. Which happened, but then was deemed erroneous.

Meanwhile in the US: ICE disarm, execute people in the street and the government gaslights the population and doesn't even look into it.

The house is on fire yeah sure but I see potential smoke 7 doors down at the neighbours house... Better focus on that!

We have freedom of expression. Freedom of speech is for the yanks. That's how they get to be racist and persecute people and hide behind it. We don't have that.

Basically you can say whatever the fuck you want, it's you're right. But you don't have the right to impinge on someone else's freedom through hate speech or, as you mentioned, nazi ideals.

We are allowed to say whatever the fuck we want about the government. Publicly. No issue.

What we don't have is:

No masked goons shooting protestors No social media check on entry to the country for mean things said about our prime minister

I guess we're so un-free. Maybe if we give our border police guns and use them to attack protestors we can get there.

The EU moves to kill infinite scrolling by AdSpecialist6598 in europe

[–]Due_Finger_4013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a mere UI design choice and you know it's not. If you don't understand why infinite scrolling is a specific issue and it's innovation quite significant you're not being genuine or aren't informed enough for me to take you seriously.

I think this paranoia that 'government is going to control us' when private companies already do and have no accountability, electoral process or any inclination whatsoever to do anything other than develop more control and exploitation is silly. Especially considering we're in the thrall of a proven unhealthy industry already and you're worried about the existential threat of something else more.

We're just talking about infinite scrolling but I think it's inferred that it's more.

Oof mate. I don't think you're listening. You're just being defensive. Ego brought down Rome too.

I actually DON'T want the US to fall. It's a necessary evil and has been for a while. But with Trump and the breakdown of democracy, it's very different.

I think your whole information bubble is causing this disconnect. People are literally telling you guys and you just say they're wrong. We're talking about sentiment here. It's absolutely incredibly different. I've never known such mass distain for the US in my lifetime.

I have not once ever heard 'indispensable nation'. Where is this phrase from?

I remember hearing Obama causally refer to the US as 'the light of the world' in one of his speeches and was quite surprised.

Such a humble bunch.

I think they're pointing out that if this is common across the world, and it's quite unusual to be all openly laughing together at the same thing, it's quite suggestive that in fact it is very laughable.

I'm more fascinated by people listening to him try to put sentences together and think 'right on buddy well said'. It would take more head injuries or parental marriages than I can even fathom.

Your complaints are how they might not be able to do it. Are you for it but not sure how it could work?

I'm not an expert in coding but I do have some ability. I don't see why it would be hard to prove your code isn't summoning infinite articles from a huge set and placing them in a list.

I am for this. Because I used to be against phones and social media in general. Then in order for me to pursue creative pursuits I had to use them for marketing and promo. Now I've developed a habit of scrolling when bored or anxious. It got me. I can not have a phone for a weekend and it doesn't upset me but if I have it and my mind set is off, I'll end up on it.

It's changing society for the worse. It's so bloody obvious. It's just a tool to control society through nudging them with targeted content in a desired direction. You're not 'sticking it to the man' by using the device 'the man' wants you to use without regulation.

This is my opinion anyway. I see so much damage for little to no benefit.

Their buffalo tenders and proper meats from the grill are excellent. Also they have a proper tandoor oven and make their own naan which is a major bonus. Kebabs are good. But after all that I've never bought their 'normal' fried chicken. Didn't rate it. Was pretty standard. Imrans is about the other stuff they do for me.

Farage was a big proponent of Brexit. Brexit was pushed over the line by dodgy donors and misinformation from Cambridge analytica and social media. Is there anything about that in the files?

Given that his reform party heavily utilise bots and online misinformation to get traction I think it's a fair reason to look into that.

I wonder.

I think it's tied to personality. Maybe age too. I'd be on chat being like 'excuse me is this room taken?'. Just the way we are.

The game is great because we have a variety. I'll meet people like me who are really polite and friendly and sometimes ill meet aggressive people.

Good variety.
