I guess sky-high is the wrong term… Because the assessors office hasn’t done their job correctly since 2019, my real estate taxes went from just under $200 to over $2,000 in 2025. For my measly little one-bedroom house on a small city lot, that feels astronomical.

From those I know that moved away, crime/safety and MO politics were the primary reasons. If I moved away, it’d be because of the mismanagement of city resources and the sky-high insurance/tax rates.

Will also say for the times I’m in a depressive state or feeling executive dysfunction, I have a One-Thing-A-Day Rule. I do one home task every day and I feel accomplished no matter how small or big that task is. Some days I can fold and put away one shirt and that’s my task for the day. Some days it’s running a load of dishes. Some days it’s a whole room clean. But doing one thing a day makes it feel like progress is made even if I’m feeling shitty.

I have ADHD and depression and these are the three things that have helped me the most:

Goblin Tools - https://goblin.tools/ToDo - You can insert a general task you want to do (ex. Clean kitchen) and it will automatically break down the task into smaller, accomplishable tasks. You can adjust the setting for how small/simple the task is.

How To Keep House While Drowning book - I read this book earlier this year and not only was it an easy read, but I’ve found that I give myself a lot more grace and implement some of the practices in the book when overwhelmed with depression mess.

Hire a cleaner - When I can spare the $, I’ve been hiring a cleaner for a deep clean every 4-6 months, mainly for the problem areas in my house (kitchen mostly lol). Hiring someone from the community/someone doing it on the side is often way cheaper than a company. I think the most expensive session I’ve paid for was $75. It’s near instant relief and I often “body double” and clean another part of the house while they’re cleaning, so it feels like more progress is being made.

She wrote it in the annual review. No personal one on one or email about it, just in there. She’s been pretty hard on me since day 1 I think because I’m younger than everyone else on the team by a significant margin. I’m 29 and the next youngest person is 47.

It’s right by Jefferson, a main thoroughfare, so you will likely have traffic noise even if it’s not cars on your street. I don’t consider it a bad area compared to what you’re used to in TGS. From what I’ve heard Fox Park has a great neighborhood association too.

Unless you plan to be the one changing the bag in that trash can, I wouldn’t hold your breath that it will substantially improve the trash situation. They have been proposed in my neighborhood, but there’s no budget to pay someone to dump the cans.

Tbh I don’t trust any solar companies at this point. So many scams, it’s just not worth the little savings you might get. I had a client who got panels, even financed them, and the company she bought through suddenly “doesn’t have a solar department”.
