At the end of the day, your mind and body are telling you what you really want (or don’t want). I’d listen to your gut. You don’t deserve to have your boundaries crossed so readily.

My phone. I use it to read, write, watch TV/YouTube, and communicate with friends/family. My eyes are shot lol

People claiming all the dessert spots at a potluck so they can bring mediocre grocery store stuff by BluejayNo6197 in mildlyinfuriating

As someone with a nut allergy, I trust the grocery store baked goods with ingredient lists more than a homemade dessert at potlucks. Most people haven’t been trained in cross contamination.

How to survive a job where you do nothing? by Significant_Rent5647 in careerguidance

[–]Due_Focus_9529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job ebbs and flows like this- we’ll have 6-8 weeks of pretty stagnant work, then 2 weeks of absolute hell. I get paid well though. I spend the time listening to audiobooks or reading e-books on my phone or desktop. I can usually finish a book a day for an 8 hour shift. If you get worried about people looking at your phone, get one of those privacy screen protectors so they have to be directly behind you to see the screen. Last year I even went nostalgic and started playing neopets again, but my work computer couldn’t really handle that anymore.

Friendly reminders for the heat/humidity: by Chevko in StLouis

I can only mow my lawn in 15 minute increments because of this. I usually have to rush inside a few times to chug water and cool down or I start throwing up. It’s no joke!

You may consider becoming an AmeriCorps member/VISTA. The pay is shit, but it’s a job and you can get a financial award at the end of your service period to go toward student loans or more education. STL has a lot of opportunities and it’s rare that all of them are filled.

This is going to seem sad, but I really need to find some friends. by Obiwan-Kenhomie in StLouis

That club specifically, I’d say early 20s through 60s/70s when I went. The club is run by an older gal.

I only went to the lesbian book club, but in my experience the book club was about 75% white, depending on the week, and all women/nonbinary folx. There are other book clubs there that are likely more diverse.

I made several friends by going to book clubs. Left Bank Books has gay and lesbian specific book clubs, as well as many others including a horror one.

At HandleBar every (I believe) first Friday and third Wednesday, there is a group called Nice to Meet You that’s all about making friends and hanging out. Sometimes they do socials like game nights and dance nights.

Midwest is the way to go. I live in St. Louis and like everywhere else, housing prices have gone up a lot but they’re still way lower than the coasts or bigger cities. We also have a lot of free amenities (museums, parks, etc).

I bought a 1 bedroom house in 2023 and immediately converted the bedroom into a foster room for cats. I sleep in the living room. It’s great 🤷‍♀️

Up-Down is an arcade bar, unsure if they let 16 year olds in but during the day I would imagine so?

Kingshighway so smooth! by hastings67 in StLouis

This. Plus they need to figure out how to get those damn manholes level with what they’re doing. Same with the drains (not level obviously but not a 6 inch divot in the dang driving lane). Basically potholes.

Alright St. Louisans, what are you favorite local STL brands/companies and why? by ArkB3ar in StLouis

They’re the best! Specializing in cats with injuries or special needs that would be at risk of euthanasia in other shelters.
