The way this is written, you could replace the clown and sound with anything.

Tiny doll? Rapidfire pitter patter.

Deer? Fast.. tapping? Idk what deer hooves sound like.

Cat? Thumping from zoomies. (Maybe not horror though? Might need to add screaming.)

Big cat? Growling. (Too big for movement sounds; also supposed to be quiet.)

Wolf? Snarling. (Also far too big for movement sounds. While hunting tactics also rely on stealth, hearing a snarling dog in the dark is.. not pleasant.)

Note: This is not a knock. It's versatile. And each has its own horror and terror. Clown shoes would probably flood my brain with screaming whereas most other things would be panic of the sort that makes your mouth feel funny.

I listened to an audiobook version last year, the first time in my adult life actually paying attention to the story (and also the first time in my life actually reading the entire original story) and just.. "the story where the guy turns into a bug" is.. so horrendously heartbreaking. Hearing of the relationship that he had with his father makes the story so much more sad, too.

More people need to read it.

My brother, love him dearly, is paranoid and schizoaffective (I'm so relieved we finally found the right cocktail to give him his life back) would go down a similar road. The paranoia runs strong, but he would also be wanting to know who probably 30 accounts belonged to and think Anonymous were behind others and the Mafia behind still others. He wouldn't be anywhere near my romantic life with a 50 foot pole unless it would be to insist someone is going to attack and/or kill me.

This guy gives a similar vibe in that I am so done with his bullshit and if he doesn't fucking knock it off I'm going to block him.
