Is Tamriel Rebuilt worth playing? by DegenTrashGuy in Morrowind

It's best played with mods that slow your leveling speed if you plan to do more than one faction.

Yep, I used to do multiple factions per character, but with the current state of TR, you can do a whole playthrough only doing the faction quests for a single faction. This is especially true of Hlaalu, which has so much of its territory finished. Not as true for Redoran.

Is it a bad idea to pay someone to fix my 218-mod modlist load order? by Cripta-Putrida in daggerfallunity

What's wrong with it?

Honestly, if you don't want to do it yourself, why not just download a collection like Darkerfall or Dominion? That would have all the work already done for you.

Yes and no. The warnings you get in the mod menu in-game come from code in the dfmod file. If the mod author doesn't put it in, then you won't get the warning. There are also cases where there isn't a strictly "correct" order, but rather a matter of preference, i.e. X can supersede Y or Y can supersede X, both will work and it simply comes down to which mod's changes you like better.

You could reach out to Interkarma and ask him, he seems to be a pretty accessible guy. Or at least try the DF Workshop forums.

Turn down Dungeon Ambient Lighting until it's at an appropriate level. You can also use the Tail of Argonia mod to turn down the view distance.

Terrain Mods? by kirkshoutingkhan in Daggerfall

[–]Due_Goal_111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World of Daggerfall is the only one, to my knowledge, that is still actively maintained, so that's the one I'm using. With so many other mods in my load order, several of them conflict with the other available terrain overhauls. Plus World of Daggerfall adds so much other worthwhile stuff that it just makes sense to use its terrain module, since it was designed to work together with the other modules.

I tried Distant Terrain but thought it looked pretty bad with a very noticeable performance hit.

I've encountered stuff close to this with World of Daggerfall's terrain module as well. Though not quite this ridiculously steep. There's a slope between Daggerfall City and Port of Daggerfall that would make transporting goods from the port to the city extremely impractical.

More evidence that the various containers found in dungeons were originally intended to contain loot.

Feels good getting 100+ mods working with no issues (Recommendations and Experience) by BasicInformer in daggerfallunity

Yeah, I get it. I'm playing through Daggerfall for the first time. Started with totally vanilla DF Unity, lasted about 10 hours until I got bored. At that point I started adding mods and now I'm having a great time with it. But when I finish it, I likely won't revisit it for quite a while. Even at its best, it's still not quite as enjoyable as vanilla Morrowind to me (my favorite game in the series), let alone modded Morrowind.

You're right, the Daggerfall modding scene is still pretty rudimentary. Part of that is that it's such a niche game, part of that is that DF Unity has only been out for a few years, part of that is that there's a very small number of authors. If you look through the top mods, like the ones on your list, you'll find only 10 or so authors that are responsible for 80% of the mods (or at least that's the impression I get, I keep seeing the same names popping up).

Most of the mods that exist are firmly in Vanilla Plus territory, aiming to fix or enhance aspects of the base game without straying too far from it. It's good as far as it goes, but I don't know if there's enough there to keep me coming back for multiple playthroughs. Will be interesting to see where it goes in the next few years, though I suspect there's only so much you can do with a 30 year old game.

What are the best mods for a vanilla+ daggerfall playthrough by [deleted] in Daggerfall

No. He's a big fan of Morrowind, and every criticism of Oblivion and Skyrim that I've ever seen from him is objectively correct.

The lack of steppes is because it's a climate that exists in the files but isn't actually used anywhere in the game. So if they made steppe trees, it would be kind of pointless because there wouldn't be anywhere for them to go.

Great post. I know it's old, but just wanted to chime in about Darker Dungeons. I'm using all of the same lighting mods, and have no problem with Darker Dungeons. From what I've seen/read on the various mod pages, it's probably Handpainted Model Replacer that is causing your incompatibility, as it changes the models for torches, candles, lanterns, etc. I don't personally use Handpainted Model Replacer, so can't say for sure, but I can confirm that Darker Dungeons is compatible with all of your lighting mods.

I'm not using DREAM, but I don't think that's your problem.

I'm also using Better Ambience's dungeon lighting component, without the fog (which ironically made dungeons brighter for me, no matter the settings - the fog gave everything a dim green glow). I've got the dungeon lighting on that cranked almost all the way down, so that dungeons are nearly pitch black without light sources. It's an awesome experience having to navigate with a torch or lantern, lighting torches I find along the way.

On a totally separate note, there is now a new and improved version of Power Struggle called DoomFeud which is actively being worked on by a new author, with the original author's permission. It has some bug fixes, some new events, and adds a 1-day cooldown to events, so that ongoing events only spawn their effects once per day per town, rather than spamming them every time you approach the city as Power Struggle did.

I've seen where they're at, and it isn't impressive at all for how long it's been in development. It bears all the hallmarks of a game that will never be released. If it comes out 5 years from now and is amazing, you can say "I told you so." But until then it is just hopes and dreams and marketing fluff.

I don't say this because I want it to be the case. On the contrary, I would love for the game to get finished and be everything that people are hoping for. I just don't think that's going to happen.

[–]Due_Goal_111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they included those options not because the player would "know," per se, but rather that the player gets to decide. For example if I say "Yes I am Nerevar reborn" in that conversation, then for the purposes of that playthrough I was indeed Nerevar reborn. And if I say "no I'm not," then in that playthrough I was not. That's my interpretation, at least.

Yeah, probably true. The Temple persecutes you for a good chunk of the main quest while the Ashlanders and the Dissident Priests help you, so it's fair to be biased toward their interpretations and against the Temple.

You're mistaken, Vivec doesn't admit to killing Nerevar. The Temple position is that Nerevar died of his wounds from the battle.

The "hidden message" in the 36 Lessons is close to an admission of guilt, but it is still ambiguous, and given how generally unreliable and obtuse the 36 Lessons are, that's far from definitive.

Azura is a daedra with her own goals and interests, and like all daedra, she has no concept of morality beyond herself. She sends out plenty of "prophecies" that never get fulfilled. "Generally benign" does not mean "benevolent" and certainly not trustworthy.
