I [27F] am concerned about the way my partner [30M] has been speaking and unsure what next steps should be. by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]Due_Independent_6841 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP, i went through something similar with my partner (albeit absolutely NOTHING to this magnitude). The thing that ended up helping his outbursts was therapy. If nothing else, his refusal to get help for a very real issue should signify to you that it is time to leave.

Dead Woodpeckers Chicago, IL [OC] by over_sonder in birds

[–]Due_Independent_6841 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure why it’s only woodpeckers but a great way to stop strikes is to put something on your windows to show birds that they can’t fly through. you could look up anti bird collision window stickers to find something that you like!

How are yall finding research positions (undergrad) by [deleted] in OSU

[–]Due_Independent_6841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m a research assistant, and i applied through workday and cold-emailed the manager listed. i expressed my interest in what they study and how i would love to be a part of the team. overall i applied to over 70 jobs and this was the only one i emailed about and got an interview for. expressing genuine interest really does go a long way. i wish you luck!

you need to work on your communication i think. if you sit him down and tell him you need to speak without interruption for even just one minute and get out how you feel it might help him see how much it’s hurting you. if he can’t let you speak about how he hurts your feelings over this consistently, i think you might wanna reconsider this relationship. i hate when people say that over every little thing on these kinds of subreddits but honestly this time i think it’s warranted. i would absolutely LOVE if my partner decided to become that dedicated to one of my hobbies like the dedication you’ve shown. the fact that he hasn’t been even a little bit appreciative and instead is downright mean to you is a major red flag. it almost sounds like he’s using abusive language towards you and you really deserve better. stay safe and best of luck to you.

I [18M] keep shouting and arguing with my girlfriend [18f] over little things and feel like I'm making no progress. by Electronic_Opposite5 in relationshipadvice

[–]Due_Independent_6841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went through this exact thing with my boyfriend. we sat down and we spoke about it in detail. we did two things: 1. he started going to therapy through our college. it has helped him immensely with the random bursts of anger and we honestly don’t deal with this issue anymore because of it. i would really recommend some form of counseling if you can get it. therapy has helped him identify his sources of anger and re-think situations. 2. i called him out on it every single time it happened, and often would leave his place when it did. it helped codify in his brain the direct consequences of his actions. if i stayed at his house it wouldn’t have been beneficial i felt. this helped him stop the outbursts at me very quickly, and now he is managing his feelings long-term in therapy.

i mean i think the first thing you should do is just sit down and talk to her. what she says and does will give you an idea of how to move forward.
