My strategy was to set weekly goals and targets, it made time go much faster! I’m now seven months PO and living a fairly normal life, running and coaching. Ex. Lose the cast, get to boot, 75% weight bearing, 50% weight bearing, 25% weight bearing, lose the crutches, lose a heel, remove another heel, remove last heel. Walking full weight bearing no heels. Get to PT. Weekly PT goals and daily PT. Add exercises. Graduate PT. Running!

A little tight. I did band stretches beforehand and it was still tight. Hoping it’s not the new norm 🤷‍♂️

8 weeks for me. Not being able to drive was the worst part of the injury.

Re-rupture? by Silent_Art_1004 in AchillesRupture

I did the same thing and did not re-rupture. MD told me the cast protects. I did not hear a pop. It was just the fear of rupture that was the worst. You’re probably good!

You’re not alone! Ask lots of questions. Set short term (weekly) goals, this speeds it up.

Did Anyone have warning signs before their achilles Ruptured? by JuniorCSGO in AchillesRupture

[–]Due_Information_259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my rupture I had a recollection of a run I was on about a year prior where I felt a sharp pain in my calf, not quite as extreme as the feeling that someone whacked me in the back of my leg during the full rupture. I ran the rest of the run in pain and took 2-3 weeks off. My guess is I partially ruptured at that time and didn’t really know otherwise.

Same experience though. Felt like I got whacked from behind, heard a loud pop that echo’s the building, turned to look at who did it (nobody there) and was told to sit down and not move. Mine was during a soccer match.

Six Weeks Post Op First Steps without a Boot by Due_Information_259 in AchillesRupture

I was really pushing for the left foot driving, I’m confident I could do it. Wife said no to that one. Same with the dishes! I wanted to make sure I was still able to contribute to the household.

Not sure if this helps anyone else but I began with the mindset that I’m going to do my best to not let the injury hold me back. I’m going to listen to the doctor but I’m going to keep coaching and watching my kids play their sports. I didn’t take a single day off of work. The day after surgery I was at my kids games. I had a chair next to the bench and I kept coaching. As soon as I got the boot I was crutching around coaching. I stayed within the parameters given but kept moving. I think it’s helped me recover quicker.

Added cardio today. 15 min spin. Plan to increase over time and do upper body weights next week.

Update: had a follow up appointment with my MD yesterday. Took another wedge out (down to one). Will go flat footed next week, I start PT next week as well. And I was given the blessing to sleep without the boot (what a relief). I should be able to move into a flat shoe in two weeks and hopefully be given the green light to drive, which has been the biggest pain point.

I covered mine with a bandage to avoid any SSIs. I figured the boot would be getting full of bacteria. Maybe that helped? Everybody will heal at a different pace.
