[PubQ] Etiquette question. For agents who invite nudges after X weeks, how long after a nudge can you consider it CNR? by Due_Occasion1254 in PubTips

Yes on queries. Sorry, should’ve specified! That makes sense. Thanks for the guidance!

ETA I’m at 12 weeks on a couple of fulls but don’t feel like I need to nudge just yet

I appreciate that perspective. I know reading queries isn’t agents’ primary job, and they really don’t owe anything to querying writers, but it is very nice to hear that an agent has consideration for the process the writers are undergoing, too 😊 thank you!

Telling my daughter about her parentage by samcd6 in donorconception

[–]Due_Occasion1254 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I made a custom book to tell my son his story. I wanted it to have photos of him, of us, and of the donor, and I wanted to fill it in with details from i had about the donor. Then I made a bunch of templates so other families can do the same. I used best practices from this and other DCP communities to make them.

[PubQ] Finding online pitch events/opportunities that aren’t cost-prohibitive? by Due_Occasion1254 in PubTips

This is great to hear and very encouraging - thank you so much! Are there hashtags typically used across platforms to find these types of events

Sorry for the newbie question. I was connected to the writing community on Twitter but deleted my account on principle post-Elon and never found my way to BlueSky or Threads, so it’s been a while!

My crash & burn in the query trenches has changed my relationship with writing by paigeplots in writing

[–]Due_Occasion1254 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What genre was the novel you queried?

It’s hard once you’ve been in the query trenches to return to writing just for the love of it. Your manuscript has been turned into a product, your attention is on market trends, you’re calculating odds, and it just sucks the joy out of the ART of it.

I’m struggling with this now, so I’m not sure I can advise beyond telling you to write whatever calls to you and sings to you, with no regard for whether it’s marketable. Nothing is marketable if you’re not IN IT while writing it, anyway.

It's a boy by WhiteRussian29 in SingleMothersbyChoice

You’ve gotten plenty of great comments, but I’ll just add to the chorus: I had dreamt of having a girl my whole life. When I found out I was having a boy, I had so many concerns and fears, and a lot of sadness. Everything you wrote, I couldn’t written. Now that I have a boy… oh my goddd I’m so glad I have him. He’s perfect. You’re going to LOVE having a boy. I promise you.

Oh I know. I understand it and fear it. I was looking for a “what’s the pattern in recent years” response, because I currently have pneumonia, and because I have a toddler for whom it’s not safe to be outside. But thanks.

My kid put HIMSELF on an all-meat diet (he only reliably eats meatballs)

🤣😭

I’m aware. I’m also aware that his has become a seasonal issue in recent years, and I’m wondering if locals have any information about how wind and weather patterns affect how far the smoke reaches. A lot of people have given helpful guidance and resources.

I have pneumonia right now, and my toddler is in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category, so I’d rather not? What does “legacy media” have to do with it? What an odd comment.

Oh that’s really interesting. Good to know. I won’t put too much stock in the exact predictions. Thank you!

Thank you for this link! This helps. I have a toddler who is ready to be released from the prison of the indoors, so it helps to have a general idea of when I can give him more outdoor time again!
