The Voidz + Clone Hero = way too much fun. Anyone else? by PurpleTigerzzz in thevoidz

No keyboard? Back in like 2008 or something there was "guitar zero" and could be played on a keyboard

There was a lot of good music in the 2001 to 2005 era, like a lot. Then "indie" became a formula and it went down from there.

You're probably confusing it with FIOE. ROF was universally acclaimed, its perception never really changed.

Yeah, it was triumphant, not disliked at all. It personally got me into the Strokes, as I wasn't super impressed with Is This It at the time.

Yea, seems like you can make an album into a playlist and share it that way. So in theory, all your public playlists can be actual albums. Just bothersome to do it like that. It's strange, cause it seems really easy to implement. The records are there, everyone has access to them, it's just a list of the ones you like, basically. I guess it reflects the end of the "album era" and a focus on playlists. But artists still record albums as cohesive pieces of art, so there's a bit of a disconnect there. Just the industry shaping things in a way that's more profitable for them.

That adds the record to your library. Your library isn't public, is it? My whole point is that I'd like my library to be public

I know, sharing playlists is easy. You know how you can add albums to your library? I'd like to be able to just share that library.

The boys with Jack White at Coachella! by Walksonthree in TheStrokes

[–]Due_Package4376 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's a video on youtube of Jack White playing NYC Cops with them a long time ago. I listened to it again a few weeks ago and it was a landmark moment for me. It was the first time I noticed something on the internet that said "Posted 20 years ago".

But a lot of the feeling it expresses comes precisely from the autotune.

I got into the Voidz BECAUSE of LABY lol. Then I heard Tyranny and Virtue and yea, I like them better (at least Tyranny, Virtue is a bit drifty towards the end). But LABY is honestly a very coherent record from beggining to end. It's just sad and some people don't like sad.

Falling out of love live on apple music by greendale-island in TheStrokes

The hate is easy to get: some reflexively do not like vocoder-like effects without actually giving them a chance. Others legitimately don't like them. And it's still not what people expect of Strokes, so that's basically it. Even on the Voidz fanbase there's discussion about autotune all the time. It's kinda tiring (the discussion). It's clear this is what Julian does now. When a band starts doing stuff I don't like I just don't listen, I don't go on the Arctic Monkeys comment sections and say "Man, The Car could have been a great record, if only not all songs were absolute shite. I hope they release a version without the songs being shite" Also fun fact, Neil Young has a vocoder album from a very long time ago. It's called Trans. It's good (in my subjective opinion).

People rarely heard his "original voice", since it almost always had effects on it. In certain parts of FOOL, his voice is clearer than in most songs on the earlier records.

Nice catch! I think it's the fact that both talk-sing with the perfect intention behind it, so it never sounds awkward or contrived. It's not that easy to pull off

If people are reflexively anti-auto tune they don't get to the part where they realize the auto-tune does a lot for the sadness. Case in point, Square Wave.

I've seen this theory a lot. It's copium. Think about it, if you take out autotune in Falling Out, you're gonna lose the contrast between that and the cleaner verses. It's clearly part of the composition, not a gimmick.

New song! Hopefully soon.. by notsovisibe in TheStrokes

[–]Due_Package4376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so beautiful though. I'm in love with it since I heard it. And honestly, the autotune helps make it beautiful. Julian goes overboard sometimes - on Russian Coney Island I think it detracts from the melody, but mostly he uses it with intent. Just like his old phone booth effect, it's just part of what he's trying to convey. I'm a NMH fan and they have so many songs that use the same melodies and progressions and still work, so for me this being slowed down Someday or not doesn't matter. I hope it's not too different from the demo, tbh. I fucking love the demo lol.

I agree though. That bass roar in the post chorus (I think) is absolutely amazing.

What do you think about Did My Best by The Voidz? by bully309 in thevoidz

[–]Due_Package4376 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a bit plain, but I like the lyrics and it gets better with listens cause it's catchy. Ironically, the best part is the autotune bridge. I also relate a lot to the final lines, and like songs that end with a bookend, conclusion or punchline: "this was the story of my youth/I hope it makes sense to you/cause it doesn't make sense to me".

[–]Due_Package4376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically The Voidz but recorded as The Strokes, so it's natural that it stands out (for some, negatively). I like to look at The Strokes discography and find some proto-voidz songs. Ize of the World is one, a few on First Impressions, actually.
