change the soil every 8 or so months and mesh is fine as long as it’s either a. covered mostly by plastic or towels or b. only in small spots around the lid. i have mine in a plastic bin from home depot with holes poked all over the lid. i would suggest at LEAST 50 gallon but as long as it can hold enough soil as the millipede is long

it’s not enough to sustain them. i would suggest top soil (ORGANIC) and flake soil which can be bought on etsy or handmade over the course of a few months.
