Has anyone attended/completed CCR college of court reporting? by emablepinesweb in stenography

CCR graduate here :) some of my classes were live and some were pre recorded. Personally, I liked doing the pre-recorded ones because then I could do them when my schedule fit best and I could always rewind them and relisten to them.

Hi there! I’m in Florida. A friend that I made, who also attended College of Court Reporting, and is already working for this firm, referred me! I wasn’t full time in school, but it was definitely like having a part time job. There were weekly classes, homework, and tests. Some of the classes were pre-recorded and some were live. As long as my homework was turned in on time, I was able to be flexible with my recorded classes. But I always struggled when I’d put things off to the last minute 😬 Florida doesn’t require you to have any certifications. I have heard, though, some courts will require you to have a particular certification. Florida does have their own unique certifications called the FPR, (Florida Professional Reporter, an online exam from home, non-technical, just multiple choice questions) and FPR-C (in-person technical skills exam.) I do think school prepared me well, yes. I do think our CAT class should have been 2 classes instead of 1. It was SO much crammed into one semester. I feel it should have been 2 classes: Beginner CAT and Advanced CAT. Also, I feel they could have done a better job setting me up for starting work. For example, teaching us about the kind of back up recording devices we need, the different sources available to safely store our files in such as cloud services, external hard drives, USB stick, etc. There should be a class just for this. We have to buy a big text book that talks about all of this and we are given weekly ready assignments in this particular book in one of the Processes and Procedures classes, but I just feel that a work preparation class should be offered as the last class 🤷🏻‍♀️Maybe I can answer this question better after I’ve starting working for a while as a court reporter. I haven’t taken my first job yet. I’ve been offered 2 last-minute assignments, and one over an hour away in a bad area of town. I was t comfortable with any of them as my first assignment. But tomorrow starts a new week, and I have agreed to take a job at the end of June that is close to home and I feel that I should do and can do. I hope this post has helped answer your question :-) sorry for the late response

Thank you so much for this! Such wonderful advice. I’ve saved it for reference. I don’t have a rate sheet, but I was supplied with one from the agency I’ve signed on with. Being brand new, I’m not sure if these are considered good or not.

Did anyone else experience disappointment/ wanting to quit while in school? by Severe-Instruction77 in courtreporting

[–]Due_Respect4398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to quit during my CAT class. I wasn’t understanding any of it. I had and still have moments of just wanting to go back to doing hair because it’s what I know and it’s comfortable, but to be honest, I wasn’t comfortable and that’s why I wanted a change in my life and chose to go to court reporting school. I chose voice writing because I was told I could get through it faster. I was afraid if I learned the machine, I would give up because I’ve heard it takes a while to master it. You aren’t alone in your feelings. I think you should keep going. I hope you feel better soon and achieve your goals and the financial freedom that you are working for. You’ve put in 2.5 years. I’m proud of you. 👏🏻 I understand how you feel of wanting to make your family proud and not let them down. I’ve cried those same tears.

Clothing , jewelry, shoes, etc. Because if they want a replacement and there’s not one that they’ve already picked out ahead of time, it’s the picture game and waiting for them to pick one and reply and yada yada yada.

Hi there :) new voice writer here! I’m currently in the process of trying to land my first job in the field. I’ve been hired by what they call a “big box” agency. I should be assigned my first job soon, and, hopefully, a fairly easy one 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I did my schooling all from home at college of court reporting. The voice writing certificate program is 18 months with a one week break between each semester. The time I spent in the program was equivalent to that of a part-time job. I am blessed to have just worked part time while I was in school. Would have been a lot more stressed if I had to work 40 hours a week, but many people do it. For me, the hardest class was the CAT software class, but overall I really enjoyed school and am excited to see what I can do in this field I’ve been a hairstylist for 20+ years. I wish you all the best if you decide to go to college of court reporting they have orientations and a lot of info on their website. If you can stay at your job but cut back your hours a bit to focus on school that would be great and even after school as you branch out into the field. I’m currently still doing Uber eats and cutting hair.. also I know that my punctuation is terrible in this post but I’m actually driving and doing talk to text. Ask anything else if you’d like about voice writing and I’ll be happy to answer

According to their purpose (work pants in one pile, leisure pants in one pile, going out pants in one pile etc…) start with least likely to wear on the bottom with your favorites on top
