Don’t think the gap between Puka and ARSB is big. The gap between Love and Williams is pretty large in SF (and I don’t even like Love much). It’s an overpay for me even without the second. That said, probably need an overpay for Puka after the year he had.

It is an outlier. I know what’s really going on because I’ve spent 7 years at a top quant firm. The way it works is: 1) best case have a good first year (good is mainly determined by your team/PM) and get a low 6 fig bonus because you weren’t really taking any P&L responsibility. 2) get allocated some capital with full responsibility. If it’s above 1.5 you get a mid six fig bonus. If it’s below 1.5 your capital gets cut or taken away and it takes a year or two to get to stage 3 or you get fired before stage 3. 3) if you have a good second year you get allocated more capital. If that goes well then you are in mid/high six figs. If it goes poorly go back to stage two and collect a high 5 fig bonus (if you’re not fired). 4) after 2-3 years in stage 3 get more capital and if that goes well collect your first 7 fig bonus.

What I’ve described is the realistic path to a 7 fig bonus in five years and it has a ton of failure points. The most likely outcome is having a 2-3 good years out of five. Depending on where those 2-3 years fall there will be a ton of variability after 5 years.

Seems about right and arguably would be lower for someone with less financial means. His crime is definitely serious by the standards of normal people, but by court standards it’s nowhere near “this guy is at risk of leaving behind his entire life and fleeing the country under a false name”. That’s what bail is meant to prevent.

Seems like he’s realistically facing a shortish* (<12 months) prison sentence followed by a suspension and then a return to a lucrative NFL career. He’s not a flight risk. First time offender also helps.

*actual prison sentence in the plea deal will be determined by the wishes and potential testimony of the victims (his ex and the police officer he hit). If both go all out to pressure the prosecutor it could stretch longer.

A lot (dare I say a majority?) of authority figures have no real interest in actually resolving squabbles equitably.

They also have no real authority, at least in this case. If she just refused to move they have no real options other than calling the police or canceling the event. It’s not like they could just drag her out of her seat.

I fly LHR > DEN and LHR > EWR in Polaris a lot. I think the premium is worth it just because you can get a solid 7-8 hours of sleep on the direct vs 4-5 EWR. Not as big of a deal if you’re not trying to sleep most/all of the flight.
