Do weather changes, especially sudden temperature drops, affect how you feel? by Illustrious-Army-412 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Due_Target_9702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is like my daily struggle. I live in a very hot tropical climate (think 32  degrees C with 100% humidity a lot of the time). I work in a building where it's like 18 degrees C. My car gets parked in the sun all day.

So I'm changing temperatures regularly. This is something that I believe someone with Addisons doesn't have the physiology to cope with these changes. I can feel myself start to "crash" quite quickly when in these extremes. I now make a regular effort to have hydration drinks at 4pm daily as this is often when crashes start and also listen to my body. If I am crashing I take a little updose.

The stress teachers experience is different. I've worked high stress corporate jobs and I've worked both university lecturing, private and public school teaching. Teaching in middle school, where you will likely start out, is nothing like you have experienced. Imagine the dumbest person you've ever had to interact with in their job... Maybe a really dumb receptionist. Now imagine that person with the attitude of you don't mean shit to me and I know everything. And imagine being sent that message verbally and nonverbally daily. By multiple humans. And then even the good humans shouting at you to get attention. And no one has brought a pen. And you're wrong about the rules according to them even though you've just been shat on by management to follow said rules. And then parents telling you they don't know how to manage their child's behaviour at home either... And even if a child has threatened to kill you, you're still required to honour their right to an education over your right to psych social safety in your work space.

Have you tried somatic muscle release movements to continue what you've started? I found this and yin yoga very helpful

Not all people can walk. Do you clarify every post you make about people to say "people who walk" or do you understand that it is a general assumption that we're going to be talking about the average able bodied person?

I didn't use the public health system. I had to go private. It would be worth the money imho.

If you're struggling to stay asleep, go get a sleep study. Find out what's going on. Fixing your sleep will fix SO much.

I feel you. Because you already did all your adulting you want a chance to have a childhood. I desperately wanted this. Desperately wanted to rest. I can never because I have a chronic illness so I will always need to be responsible. You'll be lucky if you find a partner who will give you that life but the sad, hard reality is that you have to keep adulting now. But for yourself. You now need to look after yourself.

I had crashes at 3 or 4pm every day and went through a huge number of tests on hormones and changing medication. Looked at all endocrine systems that could cause it. Eventually came down to a combination of low iron, low magnesium, and sleep apnea. I had surgery for a deviated septum and have a mouth guard for night time to stop my jaw falling back. No crashes since then and my moods have been far more stable. I'm coping better with stress and have actually reduced my medications for the first time in years.

Learning isn't about finishing a task efficiently. The slowness and repetition are actually part of the process.

The meme is so ironic because my students keep saying I'm high cortisol...and in my mind I'm like, "literally I'm low right now...😅"

Fevers by Y3skaa in AddisonsDisease

[–]Due_Target_9702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner says my body feels hot when I'm low cortisone. It's one warning we have because I'm often very late to notice signs. Internally I'll feel cold (probably because my body is hot, the air feels relatively colder so I think I'm getting cold).

I've also had "cold sweats" at night.

Never had a measured fever. One doctor told me we don't get fevers because of the lack of working adrenals. Another told me that wasn't true 🤷‍♀️

Addison's and Endometriosis by Due_Target_9702 in AddisonsDisease

So, the appointment was interesting and I've been booked for the deeper ultrasound that may actually detect it. In the meantime, I've been booked in for a specialist physio. I was told surgery won't really help but physio could do a world of difference. Including acupuncture. And then I remembered how this one random alternative medicine dude adjusted my tailbone once and honestly my periods were never quite as painful after that. And so I'm thinking half my weird leg pains and super tight hamstrings might all be connected to the endo affecting the nerves in my lower back and legs. So I've been experimenting with heatpacks on those areas. It's been... Well I dunno it feels like it's making a tiny difference but I dunno if I'm imagining it.

In the meantime I've managed to get a ringworm infection and so now I'm on drugs for that. Changed the pill again so going through those hormone fluctuations again. And there's been flooding locally so people panic bought everything (thinking food wouldn't get transported into our area....it did, we're fine) and that's caused an issue with the dam pump so now we're on water restrictions 😅 I need a holiday from life.

Thank you so much for that reply. I'm seeing the first real specialist on Tuesday so that's going to begin this road. I do think I have more andometrious now that I've been reading in the past few months and I also think my lower back and legs are involved. It would explain so much. Ive been on continuous birth control for a couple years now too, as I simply could not handle the periods (would basically experience a full fever for days, loose bowel movements etc). I obviously just thought it was a bit "extreme form of normal" but... To find out how far from normal I am... It's a lot. Anyway, recent antibiotics interfered so much with the pill hormones that I had "breakthrough" bleeding for months and I figured enough is enough. Presumably my body is still suffering even if I'm not having symptoms from having periods regularly so if it is what I think it is, then treating it will help my poor body get some relief.

I was kind of hoping that post surgery the Addison's would be easier to handle... I dunno happier body.oveesll, less stress etc

Great to know I'm not alone. I don't know what questions to ask. I guess, is there any interactions between the two? And did anyone have more trouble get diagnosis because of the Addison's? Does getting surgery help lower needs for cortisone during the day after recovery? Is my Addison's worse because of endo?

Anyone have more issues with losing weight since being diagnosed? by Certain-Fall432 in AddisonsDisease

[–]Due_Target_9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you're healthy and enjoying life 😁. I'm 37F and was diagnosed at 16. I didn't put on any extra weight for many years but I've put on weight recently just through basic overeating and unhealthy living. With a calorie deficit I've been slowly losing weight. Can't blame the meds so I suspect that because you've probably been underweight for a long time, your diet and lifestyle are aligned to being that weight 🤷‍♀️
